Are those hats or are they actually part of their heads? What do you think? I myself can't decide but it looks like it is part of their heads.

I'm pretty sure it's part of their heads. In WLK it grows with the King and stuff.

I think they mean the things on the sides of their heads. It seems like they're a part of their bodies, but then again there are these cousins:

I think it's both. Their heads are shaped like that but all the beautiful decorations are a cover ;) Hence why the pattern on the King's head is always changing as well as why it changes as they grow older.

don't princes usually marry princesses? and it doesn't necessarily mean they were royal, it could just be a birth defect :P

Then why do the two kids that the King(King's dad) and the king pass when the king was small have regular heads. And the people who beat up the king don't have them either.

The queen is not royalty before marrying the king. You can tell by her old house.

They have the odd shaped heads because that's typical of whatever sort of creature they are. XD; They just happen to mingle with humans and other creatures...

I always had the idea, that the just had oddly shaped head, and the colors were just their "clothes" or what have you, which is why cousins and second cousins have different shaped heads and bodies, as their not directly related to the rectangular headed king, prince, and queen, who just happened to have a rectangular head, as well as the king
but thats just my theory
