Title: Issues with exact size.
Psikorps - December 19, 2007 09:41 PM (GMT)
The one new stage where the KOTC asks you for an exact sized katamari...is there some trick or something to this, or just ALOT of trial and error? I keep missin the target size by between 4-5cm or so in most cases...I got 10 of each and a whole load of stardust last night with no progress in getting the 100 pointer goal. :dead
*edit*
just reaslied I was still in hall of fame boards checking Alaska Daves awsome scores...should have posted this in BK game help. (sry)

no worries about where it's posted. should be fine here. i can move it if you want.
as for the level, this isn't an uncommon style of level. KD had you making the north star exact, wlk had saturn, i forget if mmk had it.
the trick is to find an item that you know is the exact size of the goal, then then keep trying to pick it up as you pick up other stuff. go back to it to check every now and then. make sense? i sometimes don't explain things very clearly.

Thanks, thats what I was trying to do not very well though, I was thinking of going back to the delightful stage on eternal and getting a feel for sizes...should help I hope.

My crappy first attempts at guide items:
Supermarket: Don't pick up any of the main row of little tables and chairs in the restaurant until you can grab one of the tables. Then grab all the tables in that row and all but one of the chairs.
Town: I know that table with a yellow umbrella will be a good guide item. Once you pick it up you're something like 2m80cm. Once you've got it, I don't know exactly how much to grab ... maybe about two street lights and a motorcycle? That's just a guess.
So far in this game instead of guide items I'm mostly just using my normal routes through the levels, and adjusting a bit when necessary, since I already knew at what points I usually reach 20cm and 3m. (Supermarket took more trial and error.)

actually if you watch the screen when the king is giving you the directions there is a purple guide that comes up and thats the size you need to be. its the thing thats usually in the top left corner of the screen as you are rolling. only here it starts in the center and then it shifts up as he is talking. i really truly got lucky on my first attempt at these. my first try i got 86 pts and the second try at the first stage i got 100. i was 20cm2mm and got 100. my first try at the second stage i got i think in the 50's somewhere and that was of course unacceptable with having 100 pts on the first stage lol. so second try i got 120 right on! it was awesome i am so proud lol. the third stage i only did once and got 94 on it. i will try again later.
so psi to answer your question i believe it is trial and error but like the others said it is finding something you know you can get when you are close to the size he wants. or you can guesstimate by the size of the guide like i did. :thumbsup

for wlk and kd, i took a bathtub crayon and drew the outline of the shadow on my tv and used that to follow it for the exact size. don't think i'll be doing that on this tv though. :lol

As long as the wife was not around I could prob get away with that, but if she found out.... :dead lol

Oh my, second try in Supermarket makes me jealous :D On my third or so try I got a 1m99cm9mm, then by about my sixth try I was very often ending in the 1m99cm6mm to 2m0cm2mm range, but after about fifteen tries I still haven't gotten the exact right diameter.

I had an idea the other day that might work for the rest. In order to get some serious playtime, I've hooked my XBOX 360 up into the VGA port to my LCD monitor (sharing with computer, which uses DVI). Because it is right in front of me, I can take a piece of paper and stick it so that it hangs down just at the edge of the ball the king shows. I have been eyeballing it so far because, well, I'm... a lazy man... and cutting a piece of paper is a bit more effort than I strictly would want to expend after a hard days work of sitting and typing, but for the more ambitious out there, it might help.
This is going to be a very hard one to get 100 on, I can see it already.

heh i just got lucky :P :china
but yeah, I agree with ^ find one item that you know will be that size and keep trying for it. once you get it, you should be in the general area, and if youre a bit over, try the run again but skip over those rows of cash registers :D
also, like Tom (slo_bro), I've found most of my routes put me right near the marks for most of the target sizes.. just a few little changes here or there did it right. Remember how frustrating MAKE THE NORTH STAR was in the beginning? :frusty
