Title: slo_bro in 2nd place on Everyone's Katamari!

FrostyPrusty - November 21, 2007 03:24 AM (GMT)
During my misguided attempt at moving up the list for contributors, I noticed our very own slo_bro in 2nd place behind PlayerFalcon for top contributors.

Way to go slo_bro!

slo_bro - November 22, 2007 03:51 PM (GMT)
:D thanks

If anyone really wants a Million Roses stage in Beautiful Katamari, try playing Schloss Kosmos over and over to move up the chart for Everyone's Katamari :) Except this million roses stage never ends, and you get roses taken away every day you don't play :lol

I'd be playing BK anyway, so why not work on Everyone's Katamari some of the time I play? Most of the time I practice my time attack route, sometimes I go for 100 or 120 points, and sometimes I do weirder things like playing the stage without any dashes or trying to jump on cello players' heads at the start :D

I know eventually I'll fall back down the list, but it is fun to compete in Everyone's Katamari. (I liked the roses level.)

Can someone explain what Everyone's Katamari is?

Can someone explain what Everyone's Katamari is?

Its a combined size of the katamari's everyone playing has. (Though its ammount is off as it says only around 35million km, and should be closer to 35billion or more.)

Basically for every katamari you roll the "Global Katamai" total size increases, which moves you up on the list and increases your percentage of imput, which at the same time lowers everyone elses percent as its one big total.

Playing levels like Schloss Cosmos and Chateau over and over make the biggest diffrence as they let you roll katamari's over 1,000,000km in size, but the others levels count aswell, just less in the scheme of things.

Its really just a big list letting everyone know who has been playing lots. (Only people who have gold accounts, and have viewed the boards have their times/totals added to the ammounts. Playing offline is fine, but your total wont (obviously) be updated untill you go online and view the boards again.)

katamari > kalamari - November 22, 2007 11:21 PM (GMT)
Oh that sounds cool! Where do you see your percent?

Psikorps - November 23, 2007 01:48 AM (GMT)
When you flying around in princedom, off the ground you have to option by pressing A to fly to cosmos. When you do, just up slightly from the sun planet is "Everybodys Katamari" you can view it all from there. The same process is used to view the leaderboards for time trials and so on for all planets, just fly to each respective planet and you can see it all. :)

Hehe, now that slo_bro moved up the ranks, it looks like PlayerFalcon is worried and is spending a lot more time behind his sticky-ball. He jumped from 1.0'ish to 1.2'ish in the matter of a few days. slo_bro is catching up, though, moving at a faster rate. The race is on!

Psikorps - November 24, 2007 08:37 AM (GMT)
I dropped to 9th. :glare lol

The 35 million isn't adding the diameters of all the katamaris together, it is saying that if one katamari existed that included all the stuff everyone on Xbox Live had picked up 35 million km would be its diameter. Because katamaris are three-dimensional, doubling a katamari's diameter requires multiplying the amount of stuff in the katamari by 2 x 2 x 2 = 8. Tripling diameter requires multiplying the stuff by 3 x 3 x 3 = 27. So if Everybody's Katamari was 36 million km, it would take 24 x 24 x 24 1.5-million-km katamaris to make it that big :eek

Unfortunately, Everybody's Katamari is pretty much just a measurement of how many times people have played Schloss Kosmos; no other stages really count. Uranus and the co-op world stage don't count toward the total for some reason, and none of the other stages (not even Dynaville) produce a big enough katamari to have any effect at all. Schloss Kosmos time attack does get counted, but again because katamaris are 3-dimensional a 500,000 km Time Attack katamari only contains 1/27 the mass of a 1.5 mil km Normal Mode katamari.

PlayerFalcon's contribution is even more amazing than it looks -- he doesn't have the Astronomic Katamari achievement :eek so he's done it all with katamaris under 1.5 million km.

...

btw, I can pretty much guarantee I will never catch up to PlayerFalcon :lol I am playing Schloss Kosmos a few times a day for now, and he is successfully keeping his contribution at over twice mine. I doubt I'll ever go far over 1% (and he'll be 2% soon). But it is fun to try to stay in second place.

ktgogators - November 28, 2007 02:47 PM (GMT)
slo_bro (or anyone else for that matter), if I understand everything here correctly, the size of Uranus (*giggles*) does count towards the ranking? I've been bustin' my chops trying to move up the board on that level and am getting sick of playing just SK. I just wanna make sure before going back to the Chateau and then continuing to roll after 60m....

Once I made a couple big Uranuses and then checked, and unless I read it wrong my contribution hadn't gotten any bigger :( so I think Schloss Kosmos is the only way to noticeably increase the contribution. You can sure try it though, I might be wrong.

My only suggestion is to vary your route and your approach from one run to the next. Maybe that'll make it less boring.

Heh, numbers get big when they're cubed.

Psikorps - November 29, 2007 05:02 AM (GMT)
slo_bro is right, the uranus level for some reason does not count towards the total percentage, and other then schloss cosmos no level is adding enough size (%) to really make much of a diffrence on the main list.

ktgogators - November 29, 2007 08:00 AM (GMT)
Thanks for that, guys! I thought I must've misunderstood something because I made a few rather large Uranuses and didn't notice my totals going up. I do have a question for the those of you ahead of me on the SK boards though....how the hell are ya'll getting past like 1527ish.... No matter how many times I roll, that seems to be the max I can get (so far). Obviously, every time I roll, my grand total for Everyone's Katamari is going up, but I wouldn't mind seeing some improvement in my SK score too!

Maritimus Rain - November 29, 2007 12:16 PM (GMT)
I've never verified this 100%, but my theory was that Schloss Kosmos was an overall evaluation of of you did in the rest of the game. If you have ten 100 point suns, it'd add more size to your katamari than ten average sized suns. Whenever I want to try to make Schloss Kosmos bigger, I try to roll better on stages that need improvement, whether that be levels I can get new high scores on or levels where the last few katamaris out of the 10 in the cosmos are pretty bad. I haven't gotten a good roll since then, but I'm hoping the new Snowmen planets I rolled that vaulted me back to #6 on that board will help make a bigger supergiant. If it turns out to work, I'll be back here to verify it.

ktgogators - November 29, 2007 12:20 PM (GMT)
Thanks, Martimus. I've pretty much got 100s and 120s across the board already though. Any and all help on this matter is greatly appreciated!

Maritimus Rain - November 30, 2007 12:47 PM (GMT)
And you've rolled 10 of each level? If you have that's strange. I mean, I've got 30 good co-op planets out in the cosmos, but that shouldn't be the only thing getting me over the top.

...

Wait...

Are you waiting till the end and just plugging the black hole? If you use all the time on the clock, including the two bonus minutes the King gives you, you won't be able to roll up the black hole. That's a significant portion of your katamari size. I usually try to roll it up with 3-4 minutes left.

ktgogators - December 1, 2007 12:52 PM (GMT)
I think I figured out my main problem....the co-op planets. They DO make a big difference. I talked my roomie into playing with me some Thursday night and after that, I was able to get in the 1537....km range. I need to spend a bit more time there, get all three of those levels maxed out with planets and then see. And yes, I'm rolling until there's basically nothing left to roll up, then rolling up the black hole. Co-op is just a pain tho....XD

Psikorps - December 1, 2007 03:01 PM (GMT)
Make some hot chocolate or something warm to drink and I'll come over to help. :P

My problem is finding someone to play with, I have done a few of them solo...which is kinda hard.(For some reason it REALLY makes my forearms hurt) So I have only gotten a couple snowman, 3 cherries and a couple peanuts. (for some reason that sounds allmost disturbing...)

ktgogators - December 1, 2007 03:07 PM (GMT)
LOL! If you bring it all the way from Canada, I'll make hot chocolate, coffee, WHATEVER!!! :D

Same here. My roomie said "It's kinda fun, now I see why you play it all the time." Problem is, she only ever wants to play 360 or Wii after we've been drinking! Gaming + alcohol does not bode well for the coordinating of the rollers.

And yeah, I know what you mean about the pain! I've tried to get some by myself as well. I tend to roll better, but after playing with yourself a few times, your hands and/or forearms REALLY start hurting! (now that sounds WAY worse than what you said...)

Psikorps - December 1, 2007 03:17 PM (GMT)
lol, I'm not even gonna comment. Err...wait I just did didn't it? Ahh well.

ktgogators - December 1, 2007 03:29 PM (GMT)
Well, if you'd come for a visit, I wouldn't have to play with myself anymore ;)

.....errr....please let your wife know that I mean nothing by that remark :heh

I just keep digging my hole here :doh

OK! One more roll through SK and then it's off to bed for me! Gotta deal with all the sickies tonight :gba

This explains why I grinded up a big ball for Uranus and didn't move in the ranking (I didn't memorize the last rank, but it seemed like, if I moved at all, it wasn't much). I thought, maybe, other people just happened be working on their ranking too. SK definitely appears to be the way to go (luckily, that is one of the levels I have Eternal on too).

I'm a bit miffed, though, although I was warned: I managed to finally get it past the 1.5 Mil. on Uranus and I didn't get the achievement! Do I have to do this on SK Normal, or can I get it on Eternal? (I think I have to add some to the mass of the universe, though, without the queen and grand-dad).

slo_bro is really getting up there, though -- last time I saw, he was over 0.7%! What amazes me is that PlayerFalcon is moving up as well, yet it seems he is only playing Call of Duty. But, he's in Japan, so no doubt he rolls up some sticky balls on the opposite side of the day and then goes on to the current game he's playing (I do it opposite -- Mass Effect, then BK grinding).

Normal Mode for SK will get it. (Make sure to grab all the stars on the KOTC's back, also if possible try and roll his royal rainbow up seperate so you get credit for it. (Rolling the king first will grab the rainbow, yet not give credit for the rainbow)

PlayerFalcon is like me...a night owl, well nigt for me, daytime the previous day there....I think thats how it works.

Anyways, about 3am my time, I have played a few multiplayer games with him/her (does not use a mic so unknown) and seems to be online ALOT, mainly playing SK, but also doing multiplayer game (prob to break the madness that sets in after 10 SK rolls in a row). :thumbsup

To you guys trying to do coop solo, the best way to do it is to strap the controllers to a table. I used leather belts and a small wood table. 1 across the top, one across the bottom, and one down the middle between the two controllers. I also had coasters underneath to reduce the chance of skidding. If you just sit the controllers on your lap, they can shift and you won't get the same speed.

And speaking of coop, curse you slobro! That was my #6 space on the snowman leaderboards! I held it oh so briefly yet again...

I must say, I'd like to see this set-up as well :yes

Maritimus Rain - December 2, 2007 12:57 AM (GMT)
I'll see about setting it up again so I can snap a pic. It's kind of a pain.

It was a natural progression really. I knew I needed the coop levels to get the Supergiant bigger, but after a brief experiment with my brother as co-roller, I knew I had to do it myself or not at all. We had kicked ass on WLK coop, but it's different here. I tried sitting them on my lap, but halfway through one would move slightly and I wouldn't be pushing perfectly forward. First I put the coasters down, but still they moved because the coasters wouldn't stay in place. My only option was the belts, and they sure worked. Only problem was the horrible finger cramping from even brief use.

Edit
Here you go:

My setup

Edit #2
Thanks for making me drag out the belts again for the pics. Back when I rolled up my coop levels all at once, the peanut level gave me grief to no end, and it was still the only level I hadn't achieved a 100 score on. It's a pain to set up, so I always try and roll a couple new coop levels when I strap down the controllers, and I finally got over the hump on my second try. #14 overall on Peanut!

Thank you!!! Awesome tips! My last attempt was just around 2,000 Km off. By rolling the rainbow first and then rolling the king, that might tip the scales! I've finally managed to get in the lower one-hundreds on Everyone's Katamari. My goal in this game is to get into the top 10. Quoth the King, "It's a long, winding road!" :D

that's quite a setup, i think we have the same style cable-boxes. :lol

Maritimus Rain - December 2, 2007 04:17 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I so rarely get to show it off. If you have the same cable boxes, do you have DVR, and if so, does it actually work? Because mine sure doesn't.

no, no dvr, the plain jane box. but the style(the way the buttons on laid out) is identical to ours. yay cablevision. :rolleyes

err, not to go completely off topic here...

but too bad we couldn't link to the leaderboard somehow.

I'm gonna try to get on the top ten for everyones katamari, but it's gonna be one hell of a repetitive trip. :frusty

slo_bro - December 3, 2007 04:38 AM (GMT)
When I first entered the top 10 it was easier --- but the players higher up have played a lot since then.

I've got a bottle ready to crack open as soon as Ktgogators cracks the top 10 ... which will be soon I think :D (Well I don't actually have a bottle ...)

I have never yet played Schloss Kosmos more than about 10 times in a day, and nowadays I usually play it 2-3. That might be why I'm not bored with it yet (well not too bored at least).

Psikorps - December 3, 2007 07:50 AM (GMT)
When I first got into the top 10 it was a accident, I didnt even know about the EBK boards till someone told me I was on them, then I even had to ask where to find them lol.

Right now, I play SK about twice a day (4 times yesterday though, long lunch break), though I like playing the other levels more...mainly Shopping Spree cuz its so hard, and I have to try and bring my score up in time attack because I roll like Paris Hilton after a drinking binge.

Ktgogators is flying up the list, last time I checked she was in like 25th and has prob climbed since then. I have played online with her a few times, but shes so violent lol j/k. (loads of dash attacks).

I'm coming up on my holidays though, so instead of just holding the same couple of spots (usually 5-6) on there I should be able to move up a few spaces. :thumbsup
