Title: Conspiracy Theory
Dr. Thinker - October 24, 2007 11:35 AM (GMT)
The Live leaderboards are being dominated by mostly japanese players. My theory: the japanese version of the game has slightly reworked size values for all the items to give them an edge.
Now excuse me while I go put on my tinfoil hat.

We'll get to the bottom of this :devil no matter how deep we have to dig or how many executives we have to roll up.

or maybe they are just better at rolling katamaris, wouldn't take much to beat me.

I'm sure it has to do with the general popularity of the game/series. More people playing there makes it more likely for their players to have top scores. Maybe they are more organized than we are with recording and sharing optimal paths, too. Which brings up a good point- we should set up an in-depth strat section for each level- not necessarily full walkthroughs, maybe stuff like "be sure to get x item as soon you get to x size," etc. If we pool ideas, we might be able to get into those top spots, too.

that's what i figure, it's more popular over there. plus, they have more reason to play it than we do since there are more levels to play now.

the 360 users here are playing halo, that's why we're so far behind. :lol
waxc3 - October 24, 2007 04:46 PM (GMT)
im sorry, what is going on? i was playing halo.
i would love to try the japanese release and see if i did better all of the sudden.

You are right Halo 3 is taking up all of our time now! :D :D

I'm curious, do I have any highscores still? I'd be playing, but my 360 is like dead-ish. I have to mod it and hope it works on saturday. If not i'm gonna pawn it and save my money for the difference. T___T
Although it should work, i'm modding a lot and properly. :eek

Speaking of leaderboards, congrats, slowbro, on the size of Uranus :lol
I was just browsing the different boards and happened to run across your name in the #3 spot. Was nice to see a familiar one up there ;)
slo_bro - October 28, 2007 07:37 PM (GMT)
Thanks :) I've got a few scores on the top page of boards, but I think khfan1 (aaronlite) is the only Westerner in first place for anything. Of course the last I checked was a few days ago so things might have changed.

Hopefully i'll have a few more #1 spots soon, selling my 360 tomorrow to eb games and getting the arcade bundle. It'll cost me the same price as getting the system refurbished, but I get HDMI port, a memory card, and 5 arcade games if I do it this way, as well as brand new system. ^____^
And I agree, they have slightly re-worked size values for sure. :eek
I can't wait to play, it's all i've been thinking about since my 360 kicked the bucket. :dead

Actually, they are the same. If you look on the Japanese one it says 8 then quickly goes to 7. 7 means 8 minutes left.(After the 1 is finished it starts counting the seconds) The American version just starts on 7. There is NO difference. If you play both and pause them after they roll for a bit the timers are the same.

I just cant figure out how some people roll so fast for the time trials. I mean I can get 100 points on virtually every level, even 120 on a few, but the times...holy cow.
I spent 3 hours last night doing the The Weaver Girl level one of my 120 point levles, trying to improve my time, I manged to go from about 1min 58sec down to about 1min 30sec...and thought I would see the leader boards.
30 SECONDS and people are doing the same thing, I cant figure it out lol.
I roll good, I roll lots...I'm just as the wife says "slow"...lol

Well I'm not in the 30 seconds range in Vega, but I can give my best strategy, which takes 35-40 seconds ...
Start out on the bottom level (not balcony) facing "flowers" made of yarn, and push into them. You'll first grab the small yarn balls, but soon you'll be big enough to grab the larger balls too. Turn left and dash to three more of these flowers.
Make about two laps (maybe less) around the bottom floor of the mansion, first concentrating on the fairly small balls circling the floor and then grabbing larger balls once you're big enough. I don't know the exact best diameter, but at some point climb the right-side stairs, grabbing the big yarn balls on the way up. Trigger two sets of yarn balls to fall off the right-side wall, then backtrack just far enough to grab them. Grab some of the yarn on the balcony, and you should be big enough so all the yarn in the doorway to the room will quickly get you to 1 meter.
