Any chance I can add those to my site? :D
Silent Thunder - October 10, 2007 03:59 AM (GMT)
Absolutely. Feel free to do so any time I post new vids.
vix - October 10, 2007 04:46 AM (GMT)
is it possible for you to upload your videos to youtube so i can post em in the database?
slo_bro - October 10, 2007 05:44 AM (GMT)
"Adding them to my site" includes posting them to YouTube :D

By the way, Vix, if you see any videos on www.wewantkatamarivideos.com that you want to add to the database, feel free to do so. I'm just too lazy to figure out which ones should be in the database. I can put some of the SDA ones on YouTube to help.
edit:
my site's updated :Dedit: Silent Thunder, are you still planning to send your speedruns to SDA? I hope so.
vix - October 10, 2007 06:07 AM (GMT)
oo, sweet. thanks slo, i'll add em to the DB.
as for vid's, slo...i'll add anything you or anyone else thinks is relevant. :)
gah, i thought i credited each video topic with who made it. dammit.
Silent Thunder - December 3, 2007 06:42 PM (GMT)
Posting in this again to note that I just did Star 7 Comet in 2:37. A slight modification to the strat in my 2:42 video made it much easier to get lower. It's very simple. Wait a little bit before starting the stage. This allows things to time out much more to your advantage. Basically, I wait at the beginning until I see the cow in the distance start to pass behind the king's head, and the proceed to do the stage as normal.
You don't have to worry about getting between the motorcycles at the beginning(I hate that part because I screw it up a lot). The swan car isn't as much of a problem later on, and the rock guys aren't in your way after you reach 3 meters(I got badly stuck on them in my 2:42 vid). Overall, it works very well for getting under 2:40.
Psikorps - December 3, 2007 07:13 PM (GMT)
Very cool, I cant wait to play KD.
Silent Thunder - December 15, 2007 10:15 PM (GMT)
45 on Star 2.
I don't know what route matt used for 46, but mine is a bit different from what I did to get 49(which was basically copy Snap's vid). I won't give it away right now, but I have the run taped. New route is faster and, most importantly, much more consistent. Makes it much easier to get under 50. I had two 48's and three 47's before I got 45 in a relatively short amount of time. 49 took me forever using Snap's route.
Psikorps - December 16, 2007 12:59 AM (GMT)
Those are pretty sweet...after watching them a few times I have to ask....
How do you all get your vids? Do you just setup a cam infront of your TV or something?
matthew69 - December 16, 2007 02:39 PM (GMT)
About vids: You can play on your computer, saving the data simultaneously, but there can be a slight lag time that makes game play difficult. Also you use up a lot of your hard drive fast. I run my game system through my VCR and then later encode just the runs I want to keep. Not sure what Silent Thunder does.
About routes: Going up onto the table isn't worth it. You get snagged too easy, and you can go around the table faster, then pick up more stuff once you're outside. That's how I modified Snap's route. And BTW I'm happy to discuss routes :)
Silent Thunder - December 17, 2007 04:29 PM (GMT)
Yep, that's what I did. Same route as Snap though 10 cm, but then immediately head for outside by turning around and going around the table, hopefully picking up the batteries and horseshoe on the way. The table slows you down and doesn't add enough to your diameter to be worth it.
EDIT:
For videos, I do the same as matt. Record my runs using a VCR and then capture them on my computer later. You'll need a capture card in order to do that. I have a USB device that does the same thing. You can also record on the VCR and then use a digital camcorder or whatever to record the television when you play the run back, but the quality isn't as good.
Silent Thunder - December 20, 2007 08:41 PM (GMT)
Three new videos and topic title's been changed. See first post. I'll just add videos in here as I make more.
slo_bro - December 21, 2007 02:27 AM (GMT)
You are both way beyond me in routes for Katamari Damacy and We Love Katamari. In Make A Star 2 I don't use SnapDragon's path right at the beginning because I can almost never grab enough items to make it work, so I use a slower route.
I'll get the new videos up on my page soon.

My setup is different since I don't know how to use capture cards or other computer add-ons. I record onto a DVD recorder, then transfer the DVD to computer with free software using approximately the method at
http://www.speeddemosarchive.com/kbFinally having a DVD recorder with a hard drive is nice :D
Silent Thunder - December 21, 2007 08:32 PM (GMT)
Yeah, DVD recorders are probably the easiest way to record and transfer vids to your computer.
I did better than I promised for Star 1. Instead of getting another 19 taped, I went and did an 18. :D
Star 4 next...
EDIT:
Star 4 - 1:31 I'll probably make the vids tonight.

You are too awesome for words. Those scores are amazing, and they're on tape! Now how can we coax matthew69 into taping all his new scores?! And Seamonky and Dr. Thinker in BK?
Silent Thunder - December 22, 2007 03:39 AM (GMT)
MAS 1 18 and MAS 4 1:31 are up.
I was surprised my run on Star 1 was an 18, since I was a bit slow after getting the pile of cookies. 17 should be possible...
My MAS4 strat involves going for the pile of ping-pong balls after clearing the table, which then allows you to get the books right away. I then proceed to follow the previous strat from there on out. Credit goes to PhataLerror from cyberscore for the ping-pong idea, although he used an entirely different strat altogether for the rest of the stage to get 1:34. What he described seemed tough to pull off consistently, so I tried out the way I did in the vid and it seems to work out well. A really good run could go under 1:30, but just getting 1:35 or under is pretty tough.
I think Matt also came up with the ping-pong idea on his own as well.
matthew69 - December 31, 2007 08:34 PM (GMT)
Finally got a chance to play KD yesterday and today. What's cool is that even now faster routes are being discovered. I think the inability to redo a level as quickly as you can with WLK inhibits a lot of people. In WLK you can start over so easily, it's conducive to perfecting a route.
Anyway . . .
About the ping pong balls . . . :P I was grabbing them after I got the parsley and the legos, so that I had to CNR up and over the whole center table :( Not fun. It's still challenging to CNR off the top of the table, but somewhat easier than what I was doing before. I shave off a second or two by not getting all the batteries -- just a few, actually. BTW most of my startovers for this level happen because of the ping pong balls, or because of uncooperative cats :mad
slo_bro - January 1, 2008 02:13 AM (GMT)
I recommend people watch Silent_Thunder's MAS 4 video. Using the Ping Pong balls is really something. It's way better than my trick where I bounce at the start of MAS9 and land on the higher level; it's probably as cool as SnapDragon's jump from the parking lot to the top of a building in Make the Moon.
I don't know who gets credit for discovering the ping pong balls can be used first, but it's really neat. Then it was also neat for me to see that after that Silent_Thunder mostly followed the route from my old video :bleh better than I'd ever done it though.
