Thanks, I've been trying a new strategy, seems to be working well. I've been trying it out with slight variations to see what works best. 4 out of the last 5 times I've been able to top 881m, 2 of them over 881m 50cm. Here's what I do: Rush through and get to be 150m ASAP. This leaves me lots of time to be selective in what I pick up from this point on. Once I'm 150m (this happens to me while I'm by the big ferris wheel between the two skyscrapers) I focus on the tsunami islands because I know they disappear at some point soon. Clear a lot of the earlier areas of any buildings that are left standing, anything small that might disappear when I get bigger. The anchor islands are another item that I focus on picking up, they tend to disappear on me. Another thing that I think is important is steering clear of the clouds. I try to stay small as long as possible to grab the small items before they disappear, and there are just so many clouds that they can build me up pretty quick. I also focus on working the board from the inside out. I try to clear the darkest blue circle of the ocean of all islands (avoiding the clouds) before moving on to the next concentric circle. I'm usually 600m by now, so there's nothing that I'm unable to roll up. I may deviate from the inside out method when the icebergs show up. If I wait on them until I get to their "ring", the small icebergs will have disappeared. Nothing much else that I can tell you, I clear the board with plenty of time left, so I don't think that'll be an issue for anyone. So, to recap:
1. Get to 150m ASAP
2. Focus on small things before they disappear (tsunami islands, anchor islands, general "clean up")
3. Avoid the big things that stay 'til the end (tornados, mushrooms, and ESPECIALLY CLOUDS)
Good Luck!

I gave the matter some more thought and believe I've come up with the solution to the size mystery. I've been able to completely clear the moon stage with plenty of time left over every time I play it, yet no two katamari's have ever been the same size (well, maybe, but you know what I'm getting at). Why does this happen? It must come down to the disappearing items. Here's a simple equation to illustrate: A-B=C. A is the total size of ALL items in the stage, which should be constant; B is the total size of all items that have DISAPPEARED during this run, whether you just got too big before picking them up, or had them bounced off your katamari; C would be the final katamari size. In order to get the bigger sizes, you must minimize the number of items that disappear. I've described in my previous post how I go about doing this. I imagine those that post those ungodly comet times :mad :thumbsup would be able to "minimize their losses" even earlier than I've described. I'm also interested to go put this into practice on MAS8, that's another one I'm able to completely clear with time left on the clock.

The problem is to get a fast comet you have to leave smaller stuff behind. For instance, I wouldn't grab all the buildings before exiting to the 60m area. By the time I get to 300 a lot of that stuff would be gone.

GAH! :frusty

I achieved the extra millimeter today, and had about 2 minutes left so I tried for more stuff, but I ended up getting stuck in the house and shrunk back down. :dead

Now I'm determined to defeat you. :P
