Kris - July 5, 2007 06:25 PM (GMT)
Who's going to see this at the end of the month?

I personally can't wait because it looks like the it kind of goes back to it's roots in terms of humor and plot.

vix - July 5, 2007 06:46 PM (GMT)
i'm definitely gonna go see. can't wait. even the new simpsons game looks incredibly promisings(though not based on the movie)

TheVealPrince - July 5, 2007 11:07 PM (GMT)
Their was a bit of controversy ver the movie because of partial nudity even though it happens so fast that no one can see it it was bart riding his skateboard naked but hit a curb and gets sent flying

marbig - July 5, 2007 11:13 PM (GMT)
And isn't Flanders holding up a chip or something?

I'll have to go see it, I'm glad to hear that they've returned to the roots for this.

vix - July 6, 2007 02:20 AM (GMT)
it's more like, what regular episode that airs in primetime doesn't have some sort of partial nudity?

TheVealPrince - July 6, 2007 02:48 AM (GMT)
to marbig it's when he's flying through the air and to vix seems it's only pg13 but they want to make it 14A cause of it for a milli-second of nudity

vix - August 3, 2007 12:21 AM (GMT)
between the sight gags and funny dialogue, it was pure old school simpsons, i think.

marbig - August 3, 2007 03:17 AM (GMT)
To be continued...

Immediately.
SpiderPig, SpiderPig. Does whatever a SpiderPig does. Can he swing, from a web? No he can't; he's a Pig...

sms52 - August 5, 2007 03:15 AM (GMT)
Got free tickets from radio and saw it a day early. Very good I thought, especially when Bart was "choking" when he dropped Flanders fishing pole. :D

Immediately.

i already knew that part was coming so i wasn't surprised but some people in the theater got real pissed for a few moments there. :heh

Arctic Phoenix - August 6, 2007 12:18 AM (GMT)
I'm not a Simpsons fan, but I loved this movie, I went with my sister and her friends to see it. MY sister thought it was cool that the actual band members of Green Day voiced their own characters (in the short time they were there).
*Spoilers*

Was I the only one that was shocked when Marge yells out "God Dammit!" at Homer? I didn't see it coming.

waxc3 - August 6, 2007 12:36 AM (GMT)
i thought someone would mention it.
did everyone sit through the whole credits? there were several things that happened up to the last second.

vix - August 6, 2007 03:50 AM (GMT)
i was surprised at marges comment but it was more of a funny bit to me than anything.

spoilers: *Maggies "first" word*

Yeah, I sat through the credits. The longest credits I've ever seen.

vix - August 6, 2007 04:31 AM (GMT)
i liked when they showed who does what voices.

Kuro Knight - August 6, 2007 02:55 PM (GMT)
I liked it and thought it was the best movie ever, aside from Transformers.

Was I the only one shocked that 1 person can voice over 4 charactors? :heh

vix - August 6, 2007 05:52 PM (GMT)
i knew some of the actors did quite a few voices. I think I was more surprised at the ones that only did one or two voices. :lol

Kuro Knight - August 6, 2007 06:27 PM (GMT)
I was surprized to find out that the voice of Bart was a Woman.

vix - August 6, 2007 07:02 PM (GMT)
hahah, i've known that since i was a kid. i thought everyone knew that by now. :lol :lol

Kuro Knight - August 6, 2007 07:51 PM (GMT)
I guss I'm the one who diddn't! :lol

vix - August 6, 2007 08:04 PM (GMT)
then again, i'm older than the simpsons and i've been watching from the beginning so...

:)

Same here, vix, though only by 6.25 years.

I, of course, have watched this movie in theaters and on DVD (I got it for Christmas). And I have to say, it really made me cry....

...because I had watched the greatest memories of my childhood fall around me like so many shattered dome pieces.

I guess I should clarify by saying, before I had gone to see the movie, I had been watching some old season DVDs from the second through the sixth seasons. Or as I like to think of them, "My Happy Place". So, watching the movie, I was crying at how bad it was, and I was already expecting bad (but I was just hoping the advertisers were horrible, horrible people).

Well, I just got through watching both commentary tracks on the DVD (I'm a sad person), and I must say, the commentary is slightly redeeming. I do see that they tried their hardest, but the Simpsons can never be the same to me as it was when I was a child. There's just not much more they can squeeze out of such a limited premise and still maintain the feel. In fact, that probably dried up completely about season 9.

It's still the same writers, animators and, obviously, actors that they had in the good years, but they just don't have a handle on what made the Simpsons such a good show in the first place anymore. And I don't have the will to follow them where they think they can go.

Which is why I still hold that Futurama is the only show better than the Simpsons. With all the foresight gained from that series, a team of much the same writers and animators were able to place their brand of humor in a less limited context.

And, real quick, can anyone explain to me how anybody can like Spiderpig? It's such a throw-away joke when there's so much better material there. I know it was seriously overhyped, but it's still not the thing that would strike me as memorable if I had had no previous knowledge of it. It's not really funny or clever in any way, and the attempt at a joke feels so tortured on the screen.

i still like the show as much as ever. watched since it was on the tracy ullman show. i understand that many have lost interest, but i appreciate every show they do.
i like family guy and futurama more.
spider pig is freakin worshipped by my students and exstudents! lots of the teens LOVE that thing and talk about it still! sing the song. blog about it, etc... silly teens.
spider pig was no different than any other current cultural reference really though.

s0njas0n - January 12, 2008 08:38 PM (GMT)
i thought the spider-pig song was kinda funny. i thought it made a good preview, but definitely wasn't what i remember most about the movie.

when i was in the theater, the boy beside me kept saying, where's spider-pig? when's spider-pig coming back? i bet spider-pig'll save em!

it was very annoying, i wanted to tell him to shut up. i did throw popcorn at the other annoying kids, though. :P

Jag - January 12, 2008 10:11 PM (GMT)
I enjoy the fact that Spiderpig never appeared after the mob tried to kill the Simpsons. He was in the rebuilding scene at the end, but was cut out. So I can imagine that, over the course of their entrapment, the Springfieldians cooked and ate him. Aaaah, gruesome retribution.

DigitalDuckie - January 13, 2008 02:17 PM (GMT)
I actually really liked the movie. I wasn't expecting much more than an attempt at a 2 hour long string of episodes that would only fall short of the golden age of Simpsons. But they surprised me. Well it *was* a 2 hour long string of episodes but they were episodes that made me laugh and cry and not just sit there getting what I expected of my Simpsons.

What I loved most about the movie was the deeper connection with the characters. How could your heart not be wrenched out by the wedding tape?! THE WEDDING TAPE! D: So yea sure, Spider Pig is a "throw away joke"... an amusing one... but I think overall the movie was pretty decent. :yes
