Title: Is this title for the UK?
Rich666 - June 7, 2007 11:48 PM (GMT)
I am in the UK and have a UK PS2 (obviously) so will KD play on it?
Thanks.
discostu - June 8, 2007 12:57 AM (GMT)
no it wont you need a foreign ps2, a modded ps2 or something like that swap magic thing
vix - June 8, 2007 02:54 AM (GMT)
yeah, you would either need a japanese system with the japanese game or an ntsc[u/c] system with the ntsc[u/c] game. modding your system voids your warranty though and can sometimes cause system failures(though not always) and i have heard tha swap magic sucks and it destroys your system.
discostu - June 8, 2007 01:05 PM (GMT)
yeah thats why i havent played KD yet :(

I didn't know you havn't played the first game. :(
Rich666 - June 8, 2007 08:13 PM (GMT)
So both Katamari Damacy AND We love katamari is only for non UK PS2s?
vix - June 8, 2007 08:44 PM (GMT)
WLK was released in PAL form so that can be played on a European system.
discostu - June 8, 2007 11:53 PM (GMT)
yeah wlk is availble in uk format however not many shops sell this anymore so you'll probably have to get it off the internet

I never go out so yeah, it would have to be off the internet :P
Average price to look out for?
discostu - June 9, 2007 01:54 AM (GMT)
no idea sorry, id just be happy if you could get it
Rich666 - June 16, 2007 02:54 PM (GMT)
So what's the easiest way for me to play this game? I can buy it easy enough, this swap magic thing sounds interesting, as long as it is relativly easy to use or I get lots of help :)
Like how much does it cost? is there an easier method? (this mod chip thing sounds a bit far past me really) and anything else you think I should know :)
Thanks mateys :)
vix - June 16, 2007 11:41 PM (GMT)
I can't help too much since i've never modded any of my systems but you should try googling swap magic and seeing if you can find any help forums and such on it. I don't much about it so I can't say for sure.
Rich666 - June 17, 2007 02:41 AM (GMT)
Argh it's all so confusing
It says I need the right version so I have to figure out what version of PS2 I actually own, plus something called a slidecard :S what? and something about fitting it to the right slots and..... I was lost after the first sentence to be honest. :(
Arn't there people that can do this for me? the one time it would be useful to actually have some friends, not even that, just one would do!
vix - June 17, 2007 03:08 AM (GMT)
Oh yeah, slide cards are what damage ps2's from whatr I have heard. You have to force the disk tray open(if you have an older ps2), not sure how it works for the flip top ones.
Some smaller game shops, like mom and pop shops will do mods to systems. You just have to look around.
Rich666 - June 17, 2007 02:37 PM (GMT)
So basically I can't play this game on UK ps2 ever then, great :(
vix - June 17, 2007 11:23 PM (GMT)
it seems that way. you'd have to buy a either a JPN or NTSC console with the respective game to play on it.
Rich666 - June 18, 2007 01:42 PM (GMT)
So why sell swap magic if it doesn't work? :S
vix - June 18, 2007 05:54 PM (GMT)
I think swap magic works for US consoles though I'm not positive. Hey, lots of things are sold that don't work, lol.
Rich666 - June 18, 2007 08:28 PM (GMT)
..........I hate my life :dead
vix - June 18, 2007 08:37 PM (GMT)
drastic, eh?
I don't know much about systems in terms of modding but you could always attempt the mod chip route. You just gotta find someone to install it for ya.
discostu - June 18, 2007 09:09 PM (GMT)
mod chip is scary, i had it done back in the day for my ps1 and it was great but now i buy my own consoles i would never risk it.
personally i would look for a cheap foreign ps2 to play it on

Where do you actually buy foreign consoles from? Ebay I guess, never really bought anything on Ebay before though as I don't totally trust it, but if it's the only route then I guess i'll have to, even if it is for only one game!
vix - June 19, 2007 02:06 AM (GMT)
With ebay, always check the seller out before you bid or buy. Ask questions if needed, etc.
You could check local shops, maybe they import. Maybe even gaming sites that are local in the US might ship worldwide. EBgames or gamestop, etc.
Rich666 - June 19, 2007 04:07 AM (GMT)
I am in the UK, nothing is the US is local :P
But thanks anyway, I will see if anyone I know also knwos where to look and I shall keep on the look out, I found both katamari games (not the PSP version, got that already) for GREAT prices! so ordered them already :) heh.
vix - June 19, 2007 05:28 AM (GMT)
I meant local shops by you. silly. :poke :P
Rich666 - June 19, 2007 03:03 PM (GMT)
I have to travel into our town centre to get to our 'local' shops! But I will look around on the internet, mainly because i'll have to :gba

Rich666 - June 19, 2007 10:45 PM (GMT)
One thing though, what sort of PS2 am I actually looking for? American or Japanese? or maybe it doesn't matter.
Also is there some model number I need or just any PS2 from *enter country I should be getting it from in the first place*.
Thanks.
discostu - June 19, 2007 11:45 PM (GMT)
if you are buying US version of katamari then you need US PS2 same with japan etc
in the UK you should check out CEX-computer exhange, they import consoles from oter countries so that is your best bet

Not actually sure what version of KD I l amgetting as it just said [IMPORT] next to it, so I will have to see what version it is when it arrives, but thanks for the tip :)
Typical there would be none odf them stores anywhere near me (I checked on their website) but ok, I looked at theur PS's as you said and every single one says:
Origin: UK.
So I would take an educated guess and say that was where the console was actually made and not where it is being sold from, I could be wrong though.
In lighter news, I got my copy of 'We love katamari' today :D Will be playing that in a bit for sure!
vix - June 20, 2007 02:49 AM (GMT)
Yeah, if it's a JPN game, get a JPN system. NTSC game, get a US system.
Rich666 - June 25, 2007 02:46 PM (GMT)
...and so it arrives, lucky really as we are about to have a postal strike!
It appears to an NTSC version which should make it a tiny bit easier, as at least it will be a console with all the stuff in a langauge I can actually read (if I manage get one) heh :)
edit: Oh also, can you get eternal stages the same as in MMK? I will find it tough enough in WLK without them as it is!
vix - June 25, 2007 05:52 PM (GMT)
KD has three eternals. One of each section you play through, House, Town, World. You unlock them in Mas 4, 8, and Moon by getting a set size.
Rich666 - July 3, 2007 03:52 AM (GMT)
New thing, after looking up NTSC PS2s it seems I need an adaptor but can't actually find what this adaptor is or what it does, OR even if I need one in the first place!
Thanks :)
vix - July 3, 2007 06:08 AM (GMT)
i believe it's a power adapter that lets you plug it in. i think the sockets are different
