Title: a very random tourney
Description: each person gets one shot per game ...

slo_bro - September 22, 2006 08:38 AM (GMT)
Event is over!

matthew69 is the winner!

A Very Random Tourney

This tourney has different rules. Each round will feature a game where luck is a major component. Each player gets exactly ONE shot at each game. No restarts, no hitting "rewind" in the flash player, etc.

The fact I include a game in this doesn't mean I think the game is completely random, it just means I think luck/randomness is a significant component. For example, one of the games in the tourney will be Nanaca Crash, which has at least as much strategy to it as any of the games in the arcade. But if you only get one shot, it definitely has some luck too.

There will be 5 rounds.

Points awarded per round
1st: 5 pts
2nd: 4 pts
3rd: 3 pts
beyond 3rd: 2 pts

During the span of round 5, those that missed round 1 will have a chance to enter a score for Deal or No Deal.

:heh I don't know, this tourney might catch on or it might be a total dud of an idea, we'll see ...

matthew69 - September 22, 2006 04:22 PM (GMT)
I got half a mil (even though I actually chose the million). I wonder if I really did, or if the game is rigged. . . . . for more DRAMA.

$500,000

vix - September 22, 2006 04:39 PM (GMT)
I have 400,000 and 500,000 left at the end.

I ended up with 400,000

:)

Aerock - September 22, 2006 04:51 PM (GMT)
51 000 not really my game. oh well i hate luck games anyway

slo_bro - September 22, 2006 10:36 PM (GMT)
I tend to end up taking offers for $100,000-$250,000 and then have under a thousand dollars in my case.

Wow, the top scores so far are gonna be hard to beat :)

I got $127,000.

slo_bro - September 24, 2006 06:45 AM (GMT)
Woops, the next round was going to start this morning but the arcade is down right now.

So the next round starts as soon as the arcade is running again :rolleyes If the arcade is running again soon then the round will end midnight Monday or Tuesday night.

The game is Yahtzee. Remember, in this tourney each person only gets one shot at each game. Good luck!

vix - September 25, 2006 02:29 AM (GMT)
ugh, i hate yahtzee. i'll either give it a go tonite or tomorrow. :)

discostu - September 25, 2006 02:42 AM (GMT)
i dunno how to play yahtzee :(
ok i hope u guys dont mind it took me a while to work out i had to click go get points
my first 10 tries were zero cos of that :lol
i got 180 once i knew how to register the points

slo_bro - September 25, 2006 05:16 AM (GMT)
:D Vix added a game she hates into the arcade. That's taking one for the team :D

Discostu, just by chance do you remember your very first score today? Because for this tourney I'd actually rather have that score, even though it didn't get recorded, since it was your first of the round. If you don't remember, I'll accept the 180 :)

edit: Suddenly at the end of the game I started getting really lucky. The only spaces I had left to fill were 5s and 6s. I got five 6s, then I got five 5s :) Too bad I had already filled in a 0 in the five-of-a-kind slot. Still it went well ...

278

edit again: Round ends Tuesday night at midnight :S

vix - September 25, 2006 05:26 AM (GMT)
:lol

Well, I don't hate yahtzee when I play it but I don't care for this version. And besides, I think there's quite a few games I hate in the arcade now. :lol

Garlyle - September 25, 2006 06:27 AM (GMT)
260...

I don't suppose I can possibly still submit a score for the previous round? >< I missed it somehow...

slo_bro - September 25, 2006 06:39 AM (GMT)
I was thinking about that, since people who didn't enter round 1 are entering round 2, and especially since I didn't offer much time to get in round 1 entries. I think I'll go like this:

For those who did not enter round 1, Deal or No Deal entries will be accepted during the two days of round 5 (not now, but during round 5).

This tourney has been sitting around here long enough now :S so I won't be offering any second chances for any round besides 1.

Garlyle - September 25, 2006 07:04 AM (GMT)
Yay~ Thank you!

300,000$, though for some reason the Submit button caused it to do nothing...

discostu - September 25, 2006 09:31 AM (GMT)
i kept getting zero as i didnt know i had to click the side bits, the first time i woked it out i got 180
so its either 0 or 180

matthew69 - September 25, 2006 03:44 PM (GMT)
183 . . . Luck was NOT on my side for this round . . . Makes me worried that when Nanaca Crash is up, I'll hit the green girl at about 40 meters or something! :lol

vix - September 25, 2006 04:52 PM (GMT)
191, bleck.

hellyes - September 26, 2006 02:50 AM (GMT)

Oh, I didn't understand what you meant before. In that case I'll definitely accept the 180.

Sorry Garlyle (and wow, $300,000 was a pretty darn good score), but I won't accept Deal or No Deal scores until round 5 begins ... I'm gonna stick with the weird way I made the rule this time. You and anybody else that missed round 1 can enter it during round 5, which will be approximately Sunday or Monday. :china

Garlyle - September 26, 2006 10:16 PM (GMT)
Heh... alright. I guess I misread that post @_@ I'll wait =3

slo_bro - September 27, 2006 04:50 AM (GMT)
I'm interested to see how this tourney will play out when round 5 comes along, when those that missed round 1 get to enter Deal or No Deal. Those who missed round 1 such as Garlyle, helleyes and discostu stand to gain at least 2 points from round 1 along with whatever they score in round 5, which just might end up being enough to win. Meanwhile I'll probably lose a point :lol since someone is likely to beat my 127,000 dollars. I think matthew69 and vix probably won't lose points, 400,000 dollars is hard to beat, but who knows? I'll enjoy seeing how this turns out.

Round 2 over in T minus 11 minutes ... now ten ...

:wonder

waiting ...

edit: Round 2 is over. Round 3 is Nanaca Crash. The round ends midnight Thursday night.

Remember, you only get one shot. I know I'm not gonna put my faith in a very low angle shot and risk a score of 10 meters. I'll tell you my strategy ... I'm going to shoot at 45 degrees, and use all three of my upward boosts right away. Of course it is everybody's choice how you want to go for it :) use my method if you want or try anything else.

Apologies to anybody who has never played Nanaca Crash before - we will go with your very first shot at it, even if you have no idea what's going on :heh

edit: For anyone that has never played the game before I suggest reading the thread Vix recommended a couple posts beyond this one, and/or doing what I suggested three posts after this one.

I got 1054.88 meters.

Garlyle - September 27, 2006 05:06 AM (GMT)
...Oh god, it's this game...
Can you tell me, like, anything about this, since it's in japanese and very hard to understand...?

vix - September 27, 2006 05:07 AM (GMT)

slo_bro - September 27, 2006 05:12 AM (GMT)
For those that haven't played it before ...

I strongly recommend this beginning. Press the button at as close to 45 degrees as you can, then let go at as close to full power as possible. Then, once you fall back onto the screen from being off the top, press the button again before you land. (Or just keep button mashing quickly.) Do the same the next time you begin to fall, and do the same a third time. After that there is a lot of luck; just do your best to be helped by girls and not hindered by boys.

This is definitely not a good strategy to get 10000 meters or more. But it will work well to get as far as you can your very first try.

Garlyle - September 27, 2006 05:45 AM (GMT)
... 6 Garlyle 1033.41 I. Suck. September 27, 2006 7:45 AM

(Long Story Short: 1033.41. Bet you can all beat that)

slo_bro - September 27, 2006 05:58 AM (GMT)
Aww, I beat that by just the slightest little bit. I got 1054.88.

Anything over 1000 sounds quite good for someone who has barely ever played the game.

vix - September 27, 2006 06:33 AM (GMT)
butternuts, i wasn't totally paying attention...:doh

1269.83

matthew69 - September 27, 2006 02:31 PM (GMT)
I was so nervous.... I just KNEW the green girl would be after me! She was.... I had to use TWO up-boosts to avoid her before I got the pitiful score of 1629.98.

discostu - September 27, 2006 05:10 PM (GMT)
i risked the low one i got 1109.53

vix - September 27, 2006 06:26 PM (GMT)
nanaca is tough with pressure! :lol

matthew69 - September 28, 2006 03:47 AM (GMT)
Oh man I missed your 5,000th post :P

vix - September 28, 2006 03:51 AM (GMT)
aww, sorry, it's in the banner topic in the news forum. :)

hellyes - September 28, 2006 03:58 AM (GMT)
509.48 lol

Awww ... I know that with your skill level at this game, something over 5,000 was a distinct possibility :( I was hoping for something insanely good, but still 1600 leads the tourney right now.

Obviously I can't enter again this round, but for the fun of it I tried a different strategy just now - aim very low, be hit by girls 2 or 3 times to get nice momentum going, and then the first time I am reasonably high use the three boosts. Here's what I got my first try THAT way today ...

user posted image LOL

second try 129m
third try angle up right away ugh
On my FOURTH try like that I actually got nice and airborne, and without any serious additional luck or major troubles I sailed pretty easily to 2889.50. But obviously fourth try isn't good enough for this tourney :bleh

slo_bro - September 29, 2006 11:30 PM (GMT)
Heh, I thought it would be kind of funny to post a screenshot where I only made it 69 meters ...

Oops :heh I am almost a day late starting the next round. The two games I plan to use for rounds 4 and 5 are of the one-click-and-watch-what-happens variety, so it's possible this tourney's best days are behind us :( Oh well.

Round 4 is Kitten Cannon. Entries are accepted until midnight Sunday night.

Remember, we each only get one shot. Good luck!

edit: I got 189 ft.

discostu - September 29, 2006 11:57 PM (GMT)
186m :(

Garlyle - September 30, 2006 01:04 AM (GMT)

That poor cat, though... ;-; *Rescues it*

vix - September 30, 2006 02:41 AM (GMT)
seems as though the arcade host is having issues again. :doh

matthew69 - September 30, 2006 01:30 PM (GMT)
Good god . . . I hit absolutely nothing. Nothing. 192 feet. :crybaby

discostu - October 1, 2006 12:43 AM (GMT)
still beat me :(

vix - October 1, 2006 02:10 AM (GMT)
