Title: The Black Knight
vix - September 15, 2006 04:29 PM (GMT)
While it may seem like my score is insane, it actually isn't.
For a while, I couldn't break 4,500. But then, I decided to upgrade my weapon to the second best. That left me in a huge hole going into the next round and as time ran out, literally on 0, i hit a few more items and got the coins i needed. So then I upgraded my weapon again and with it, you get more money for each smash, plus the "combo" smashes.
So, 80k, isn't too unreasonable. :)
matthew69 - September 17, 2006 01:03 AM (GMT)
Did you continue to upgrade your weapons after that second time? And what about the potions and the good luck charm on the right? Ever buy those? I can't break 10K.
vix - September 17, 2006 02:19 AM (GMT)
I never buy any postions at all or even the charm. Once you get the final weapon, to me, it's kinda pointless.
The way I upgrad weapons kinda varies. I usually wait till the third level before I upgrade to whatever I can afford and then when I can afford the final upgrade. After that I just plye and try to get the most combo smashes.

Thanks for the tips, I'm gonna go try that game out now.
slo_bro - September 17, 2006 07:08 AM (GMT)
Does anybody else find the theme of this game a little ... ummm ... :bleh It's fun, though.
So far, any time I buy a weapon stronger than the 1500 one I can't finish the next level. I bet there is something basic I am doing wrong :lol
Any suggestions on which level is a good one for buying the most powerful weapon?
edit ... what the ... on my computer low video quality must mean the knight moves faster or something, because the levels become easier on "low" on my computer
vix - September 17, 2006 10:32 PM (GMT)
I've had no problems with him moving "fast" or anything like that.
But if choosing the quality makes for an "unfair advantage" then the game might now stay. I've been playing it only in high quality so far...
matthew69 - September 17, 2006 10:47 PM (GMT)
Okay [*sigh*].
So I've been getting 1,600 to 1,900 on the first level, by hitting everything and "getting medieval" on every other person/item. Which brings up my first question: Is it possible to get medieval on everything? That's how it appears in the instructions for the game. I don't have a left/right button on my mouse . . . maybe that's the problem. With my mouse, if I click and hold . . . well, that "click" counts as a swing, so then I'm frozen for a while if I hit air. Solution: Click to swing, actually hitting something, but hold for the NEXT thing.
Anyway, so I wait until after level 2 to buy a mid-range weapon. Then after level 4 or 5 I can usually get the mace. So . . . Hitting everything, and trying to "go medieval" on as many things/people as possible, usually yields about $6,000 per level. Which is fine for six to eight more levels, getting me to the 40-60K range. But eventually the king asks for $6,500 or $7,000, and there's nothing I can do, despite the fact that I have the best weapon.
I know that the amount the king asks for is dependent on how well you did previously, so maybe holding back after you reach the goal is better...? Or do I need to get the gold ($) amulet? Or . . . . ?
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG!!! :crybaby
slo_bro - September 18, 2006 02:53 AM (GMT)
The game slows down a bit if I have it on high or medium quality. Low quality has less slowdown, and with the way the game works somehow less slowdown means more opportunities to beat things up. I get the impression that probably the faster computer the player has, the more things the player gets to hit per level. I totally don't see this as a problem at all; probably a lot of games are easier on a slower computer (and I have a slow one), this game appears to be easier on a faster computer, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. (I may be all wrong; I based that on some assumptions).
The only way I have been able to 'go medieval' on everything is to buy the strength tonic. Swing at air, hold down the button, quickly regain ability to swing thanks to the strength tonic, and let go when stuff is close enough to get whacked. But I think this cuts down on the number of combo points you'll recieve. I am guessing this method would not work as well as going in with no strength tonic and 'going medieval' on every other swing.
So macs still only have one button on their mice? :woot That's cool!!! I wouldn't have guessed that. The second button is not used in play that I know of, so I don't think having only one button is an advantage or a disadvantage.
:heh Just so you know I can't be much help on this game. I am almost never able to finish the next level after I buy a mace, even with the graphics set on low quality.
btw I think the best bet MIGHT be to buy no weapon at all until after level 3 and go straight from the baseball bat to the mace. That's what I usually try to do. But I don't know; this might not work well. Course this wouldn't solve later levels when asked for 7,000 bucks etc.

I'm finally good at a game that it seems as though no one else has figured it out and I get crushed...from now on, i'm not saying anything anymore. :lol
slo_bro - September 18, 2006 03:37 AM (GMT)
Well, your score still looks quite good to me, a lot better than I can do, even if someone did better.
*addicted slo_bro goes back to playing Black Knight
vix - September 18, 2006 03:40 AM (GMT)
It is an addicting game, that's for sure.
matthew69 - September 18, 2006 02:11 PM (GMT)
For me the addiction is the fact that this game is all about strategy -- or so it seems -- and I can't figure out the strategy! It's like the puzzle with the missing piece.
I have a theory, vix, about your being "crushed" . . . Your comments were helpful, yes, but I'm guessing that AAA has played this game before and knows the "secret." So do the people whose scores up into the millions I've seen on other websites.
I tested my theory about going medieval on everything (buying the strength tonic). It "works," in the sense that you can actually hit everyone and everything with the biggest possible swing. BUT it doesn't boost your score. Using the mace, and hitting everything, yields about the same -- $6,500 -- as the alternating method. Go figure.
Now if only AAA would weigh in on this topic . . . .
AAA - September 18, 2006 07:09 PM (GMT)
My tips:
-You can hit more than just people. In fact, anything in the foreground can be hit.
-I always let my weapon charge up, and try to get smash bonuses on whatever I hit. Hitting multiple things at once gets you a better bonus. You don't need to let it charge up all the way to get a smash bonus.
-Hit something with the swing that starts your charge. There are plenty of targets, and you won't have to endure the delay for missing.
-Try not to charge up while there's nothing to hit. That will unnecessarily slow you down. Remember, you don't need to charge all the way up for the bonus.
-You can still swing after time runs out. Use this to milk some extra cash.
-I upgraded weapons as fast as I could.
-I bought the luck amulet on each round after I was fully upgraded. The extra money far outhwieghs the measly 200 gold, and makes the next level's goal much easier to reach. Incidentally, the level I lost on was one where I didn't buy this, and I fell just barely short of the goal.
I have played the game before, but I never got a score that high. I think part of it was luck, as I didn't encounter long stretches of nothing or the witch too often.
vix - September 18, 2006 07:35 PM (GMT)
Hmmm...that's everything I've been doing short of buying the amulet each round...
matthew69 - September 18, 2006 08:20 PM (GMT)
Yeah, that's what I've been doing: the mace early on, multiple targets, hitting every hittable thing, smash bonuses, lots of getting medieval, extra money after the time runs out, the lucky amulet. . . . But the king keeps asking me for more and more ($6,800... $7,200... $7,900...), and eventually I can't make it, even on a perfect run. Oh well. I guess I have my answer though! :shrug
vix - September 18, 2006 08:37 PM (GMT)
Has anyone managed a +40 Smash Bonus yet? I've only managed 30 so far.
That's the same problem I've been having matt, as soon as I get to around 80,000, I can't get past that.
matthew69 - September 18, 2006 09:10 PM (GMT)
What I still don't get is how a person achieves $150,000 if the king is continually raising the amount he wants (like he does with me). I can't even get to 80K; 60-65K is where the king starts to ask for what I can't deliver. His incremental increases are about $400 more every time. So for me to achieve 150K, I'd need to be able to get almost $15,000 on that last level (the one that AAA said he barely finished). But with the mace, the amulet, and a perfect run, I can only get about half that in one level.
I've only seen 20 and 30 smash bonus amounts.
vix - September 19, 2006 12:15 AM (GMT)
Same with me.
Though there are levels where I don't manage to pass it until after the timer has gotten to 0 and I get coins that are off-screen.
slo_bro - September 19, 2006 12:28 AM (GMT)
I see +40 smash bonuses every once in a while :) I've never seen one higher than 40.
As for my scores, once I was over 40,000, three other times maybe I made it to 20,000 or so, and other than that I can never quite pass the next level after buying the mace.
I do pretty much what has been suggested - swing once to power up, 'get medieval' my next swing, try to hit more than one thing at once, keep hitting things after time runs out.
Unfortunately my best guess is that the faster your computer is, the more things the black knight gets to swing at per round. Hopefully I'm wrong.
