You know what? I was checking out the records for this board for As Large As Possible 5.
Two nights ago, I broke that record. 3641 xx xx (forget the exact dimensions after the meter mark). Then, before I got to save, my sister tripped on the power cord and ended up destroying my hopes of becoming famous. ><
I haven't had the chance to get on here since that happened... *Sniffle* I could've been a contender...
Anything like that ever happen to anyone?

Wow, I've always suspected that an extra cloud could appear and raise your size above 3640, considering how often a cloud is missing and I end up at 3618m, but this is the first I've actually heard of somebody doing it. Too bad you didn't get the game saved.

I just achieved 3632m18cm0mm, and after I rolled up the King and Queen, I got it about 200m bigger in the final few minutes. There was virtually nothing left. To get 3640m, you're gonna have to roll up every tiny (from the katamari's perspective) cloud and stray piece of island there is, and that might barely break the 3636m mark.

Quite a few of us are able to completely finish off all the objects, leaving nothing but water.
When I do that, I usually end up with 3633m-something and once in a while 3634-something or 3632-something. Or, occasionally a cloud or two is missing and I end up with 3600-something or 3618-something. (BTW by that time the huge clouds are BY FAR the biggest size-gaining objects if you have picked up the King and Queen; the huge clouds are worth much more than any of the land pieces).
The other katamari games have strategies to go a little above the norm, like in KD it helps to start picking up the smallest things you can find when you're a couple hundred meters tall (so they don't get a chance to disappear), but personally I haven't found anything that works in WLK.
But I'm going to give it some tries. I probably won't figure out anything, but who knows :D

As the current holder of the ALAP 5 record on this message board, I am both sorry and relieved to hear your story, but I am also surprised that you could have reached such a diameter. I myself can consistently get to 3632+, at which point there are no more huge clouds and gaining diameter in large chunks becomes nearly impossible. I would try to replicate that run if I were you and see what your results are.

Alas! I just realized that in all the excitement, slo bro has usurped my title. The worst part is I just bought Katamari Damacy today, so I'm a bit occupied as it is. All the more motivation to break the new record i guess.

You know what's odd? Everyone suggests having all the cousins before doing it to maximize diameter; I've only got about half @_@
Anyway, I'm going to submit my current scores probably tomorrow, to at least get myself up on that board. And I'll try to get this record again, but somehow I just -know- I won't pull it off again...
