Title: Need rolling tips

kickstart - August 26, 2006 04:56 AM (GMT)
I'm finally in the MMK club. I played it and my PSP for the first time today. I'm loving the islands and the new places to roll and everything in MMK :) however the King isn't the only thing kicking my butt. :( This rolling without the analog sticks is really a pain. It's hard not to mash all the buttons at once.

Any tips on getting better at it? I have such trouble maneuvering around and sometimes I just find myself covering a room by going back and forth in a zigzag motion because it's easier than turning. Help! :wtf

It does take some getting used to. I just played WLK after days of playing just MMK. I sucked. -_-
I can't offer you much help, I can only say use the analog stick, other than the directional pad. Most people find it easier.

Sorry, I'm not much help because personally I had an easy time getting used to the controls.

But I hope you like the game! I still play it.

edit: I never use the L and R buttons. When I want to turn I only press Up or Triangle and nothing else, or if I want to turn quickly I press Up and X or Down and Triangle. But eventually, using the up and left and right buttons on each side of the controller ends up feeling just as natural as using the sticks. At least it did/does for me.

The only tip I can really offer would be to practice and what not, just keep at it cause the more you play, the more fuild it will feel.

Took me a while to finally be able to beat the canary so just keep at it.

Thanks for the tips, everyone. I'm getting better, but holy %$@* my thumbs are killing me! I've been using the analog stick (I wish it were bigger) in combination with the triangle etc. I think I might get one of those add on controller handle doo-dads because then it might make it more comfortable to grip the PSP.

One thing that I do that helps me with fast times is to divide each level into sections. Roll up as much as you can in one section before moving on to the next... I'm trying to do the best I can to get a sub 12 minute time on the Royal Monument stage.

:woot Another person who likes to roll for speed in M&MK! :)

I like the scoring system but I probably like to try to roll for speed a little more.

In case you're interested, the sequence of areas where I'm fastest is:

Shimano House
Sakura Town (Roll Me In)
Strawberry City (can't think of the music, with a golf course)
? Land (The Moon And The Prince)
Sunflower Continent

I beat my personal goal of a sub 12 minute time a few days ago! 11 minutes and 44 seconds on the Royal Monument stage! w00t! Next goal is sub-10 minute time. =)

Good job :thumbsup You'll make sub-10 soon enough.

I have more good news! I just reduced my time from 11:44 to 10:52! I'm nearly there! And there's a Royal Warp in "Gin & Tonic, & Red Roses"(the snowy 20cm-1m50cm stage). I'll try and get screenies up sometime... I'm very lazy...

Edit: w00t!!!!!

I have just gotten a sub-10 minute time! My current time for the Royal Monument stage is 9:50! ^-^
