Title: Posting Runthroughs
Bruno - May 9, 2005 08:52 PM (GMT)
In the MAS6 score thread, Dr. Thinker mentioned posting a runthrough. I think this is a great idea, because I'm always curious what the best routes are. If anyone's interested I'll post a runthrough for MAS4 comet in this thread. It's the only level where I have the fastest time for the MAS levels.

Feel free to.
Although I have no authority here, I don't think Vix will mind.
vix - May 10, 2005 02:19 AM (GMT)
don't mind at all, just find a place to host the vids, there isn't enough space here to do that for free. :)

Here's the first part for my MAS 6 run. I'll give it to you in two or three parts so as not to spoil it all at once. A couple of notes before we begin: there is NO STOPPING!! Once we get that katamari rolling, we don't stop for any missed key items (hopefully there won't be any). Second note: Press start ASAP to get the level started. It seems the world "comes alive" as soon as the prince lands on the level, and some of the timings for this run may not work out if you're starting at a different time.
Here we go!
This first segment will focus on Seagull Park. You're simply going to do a few laps around the park COUNTER-CLOCKWISE, focusing on some key items to pick up. The first thing to do once the level starts is to get the prince turned around. Silly prince, starting the level facing the wrong way! Either do a 180-jump, or just turn in place, I don't find one particularly faster than the other. First thing to pick up is the iron, crossing in front of the walking guy (if you can't make it in front of the guy, you pressed start too late. See second note). Now on through the line of plants, then a slight turn and through some squash. Next, you'll need to focus on the bats, these are the items that'll boost your size the most right now. Go through the bats, then through some boots and another iron or two, more bats and ladles and bats. Try not to miss any bats, but always remember to keep moving forward. Next items to grab are the line of kids boots. If you haven't been through your first phase shift by this time, you've missed too many items. After grabbing the kids boots, immediately head down into the clock area. Continuing counter-clockwise do a lap around the clock. Key items here are the beach balls and bats, although it's not difficult to get everything. Timing should also be that the car won't get in your way. Once you've done one full lap, go a little bit more until you reach the blue toolboxes. Grab these up, then on to our first live victims, the chickens. You should hit your second phase shift while picking them up. You should also be sitting right in front of the park entrance/exit if your timing has been good. This is a good spot to judge how you've been doing time-wise so far. A good time lets you pick up the chickens right in front of the door, the slower you are, the farther the chickens get from the door, making you chase them down, then backtrack to exit. Once the chickens have been "plucked" :wonder make your way through the door, picking up the tricycle along the way. If you can't get the bike, you've missed too many items. The timer should still read 10 at this point, so total time spent in Seagull Park <1 minute.
That's how I spend my time at Seagull Park.
To be continued...............

Wow that's really detailed actually...a lot more than I could have been :lol
I'm going to try this before I read the rest of your posts on it, because I always have the most problems with the initial stages of a level, where I have to figure out which items & where they are. I feel I usually discern pretty well when I can get the larger stuff.

As for MAS4, I'll also do my runthrough in parts. The first part will deal with getting to the 20 cm phase shift.
Start the level off and pick up four or five of the rotating dice. Whatever comes to you on the way to the first few blocks sitting right ahead. Pick up all the blocks, winning tiles, and mah jong tiles, then move on to batteries and finally the row of gum packs. At the end of this row drop off (you should see a teddy bear in the distance) and get all the parsley on the plate. Turn left and go around the table, up the ramp through the chair and pick up the ballpoint pens. On your way out if you've got a good motion going you should be able to hit the 2 mice coming your way and pick them up. Grab the row of mice guarding the cheese and pick them up. Now head for the garden (make sure you are at least 14 cm 2 mm or so...preferably more), picking up all the cards in the exitway. If you are not 17 cm after picking up the cards, you'll have to get an item or two to get there. Pick up 2 or 3 soda cans and then the 8 watermelon slices on two plates.
This should get you to 20 cm in well under a minute...I don't know the exact time but I'm guessing it could be done in even 30 seconds or less.

MAKE A STAR 4:
Right at the start, roll to the left and pick up all the caramels in the outer row. Go backwards, picking up the inside row. get to the rotating dice, and pick up as many as you can without standing still or going completely around. Break off and pick up the nearby tiles. You can pick up the thermometer here, but it may end up slowing you down. Get the tiles on both sides of the eraser, then proceed to the batteries, picking them up in the same fashion as the caramels - go forward picking up one row and back on the other. You should hit 10cm here.
Pick up the row of erasers, then continue going forward and roll onto the plate of parsley. Pick it all up, then go up the paper thing into the chair to pick up the pens. Roll out the other end, and pick up the six mice around the cheese but DO NOT PICK UP THE CHEESE ITSELF. It causes the mice to notice you and try to run. Roll up the nail clipper just past them. Roll up all the paperbacks guarding the way into the yard, then roll up the drink cans from right to left. Pick up the watermelon slices on both plates and the one in the bear's lap. After the second plate you should hit 20cm. This part should be done in under a minute.
Roll up the flowers and go toward the plants otherwise you will probably be hit by the bears in baskets or the cat. Quickly go toward the place under the house, using a charge 'n' roll and picking up some of the water guns and the rice balls under the house. Charge 'n' roll again to the jumboman action figure, rolling up both it and the nearby spider. Go right, rolling up the spiders and out the other end, near the squadron of action figures. Roll them up (it should put you over 30cm) and go to where the tools are. Pick them up, then go up the stairs (or rather, right next to them; there are some shoes you can roll up) and go to the door into the room you started in. Roll up the dolls, the plate inside the room, and the teddy bear. Go into the bathroom, picking up the weird paper thing on the door, the toilet paper, and what I want to say is air freshener. Pick up the red shoes at the bathroom door and roll up the stack of piggy banks. Roll up the remaining shoes and go right, picking up some flowers and the seated teddy bears which should get you over 50cm (or you could already be over it).
Don't go through the barrier in front of you. Instead, go to what led under the house, picking up what you can on the way. Obviously you can't still go under there, so pick up the flowerpots and go onto the ledge with several flowerpots lined up, and rolling them all up, of course. If you did this part fast enough, it hasn't yet been two minutes. Roll up the slope, picking up hard hats. The cats pulling the carraiges should probably try to run from you pretty soon; if they're nearby, roll them up. Continue up, picking up the backpack, briefcases and the three pots with a kettle at the top. You should be over 75cm at this point. Go down onto the lower level, picking up the purple things and the washtubs. Pick up the blue buckets, then go onto the display and pick up some of the flowers. Finally, roll up the cucmber(?) plants, and if this doesn't quite finish the level, pick up the manderin carton nearby.
I probably got some of the item names wrong, but that's pretty much all I do to constantly get below 2:20.

Thanks Janus. It sounds very similar to what's in snapdragon's video and what I do myself, except for a few slight differences. I'll see if I can try it exactly your way and if it cuts 10 secs or so off my time...I'm close to 2:20 as it is but that's the very bestest I've done.

Could I write one for a constillation? I was thinking corona borealis because I had at least 30 seconds to go after I finished.

I want Bruno to post one for what he does after getting around 5m on MAS 6. I managed to pull off 6m 33cm, but I have no idea how he breaks 7m.
Janus - June 23, 2005 12:11 AM (GMT)
After about 6.4m, you can roll up the palm trees at the beach.
Bruno - June 23, 2005 10:07 PM (GMT)
Yeah that's pretty much the trick. And then get the flag on the boat. If you're running out of time by the end to get to 6.45, view snapdragon's video runthrough here:

Yeah. I made graphical versions of this. Pretty much the same idea. Go where the goin's good.

In my graphical Runthrough, after they achieve the goal, I have them end up on the roof, getting those rarer items. ;D
