I can pass day and evening with meh scores....so i'd appreciate tips to get bigger...

And flippin night is killing me....anything any of you got on this level would help

I've tried night so many times and still can't get past it.

Aaron did a nice walkthrough of Night in the other thread. It helped me pick up the King :woot

In Night your best bet is to stay up high the whole way, it isn't easy but try it a bunch of times and you'll learn how to do it.

Always watch for things like birds and helicopters that fly you upwards, because it seems that without fail whenever you have a chance to fly upwards it helps to do so.

For Day it's possible that you just aren't dashing fast enough when you're in front of the castle. I am never more than 80-83m in Day when I reach the castle; the rest of the growth is by pressing Triangle or X to dash back and forth all the way across the screen over and over once the fireworks start going off.

For Evening, ride the bird near the start, and then when you see the guy in a hole make sure you fall in that hole (?!) because you'll end up bigger that way.

But most of this is in the other thread, so this probably won't help much either :(

Eventually I hope to make good vids of all 3 and get them on Aaron's site, but obviously you guys can learn the levels without video help.

:lol I decided to write a detailed walkthrough for the Day level. I wonder if anyone will use this.



DAYTIME:

Grab 3 oranges, :prince , 3 Lemons, the Onigiris, the Strawberries above you, 3 Lemons, Oranges and :lalala , Strawberries, Eggs and Chick, :nik , jump over the mushrooms. Get to the front of the screen and jump quickly when you see a gap, so you can catch one or two of the Onigiris. Grab :ace , the Chicks, Lemons and Chick, and :johnson .

Jump on the dog. Grab the Eggs and Strawberries. Jump over the cat and grab everything between you and the person. Dash back and grab the Cat. Dash forward and jump over the person; get the Mushrooms and Lemons and then the Cat. Jump over the hole and get only three Tires, then jump back to the left over the hole and sit there. Once two more Tires hit you, you will be big enough to pick up the flowers you're standing on. Go forward grabbing more flowers, :fujio and the Girl.

Squeeze in and grab as many Eggs as possible. Jump out, grab everything in front of you. When you get to the top of the steps, jump forward for the Persimmons, then jump forward again for the people, then dash back left to the top of the steps, and dash forward to get under the platform to grab Bowls and Cats. Keep dashing until you reach the hole; jump of course. Grab everything, and jump on the big dog. Stay near the front of the screen to catch the Cats before they fall in a hole, and jump up to grab the Birds. Grab as many Fish as you can by sitting at the edge of the hole, jump over the hole, and grab more fish and birds.

You can't grab the Clouds you see, so head up the steps. Dash forward and get as much stuff as you can, then dash back and jump to grab one Cloud. Get stuff, climb onto the van, and sit on the van to wait for the Woman. Then go forward and get the stuff on the ground and more women. Don't forget to jump for the Birds. Plow through everything, and stay right at the front of the screen.

As soon as you hit a barrier dash left. Grab the falling women. Jump onto the left edge of the first platform and jump for the Cloud. Continue forward across the platforms getting the Clouds and everything else, and jump up from the last platform for another Cloud. Climb off the last platform and try to dash left to get a person or two. Make a big leap over the hole.

Get everything, and jump up for the Cloud and then the next Cloud. Plowing time: plow through everything and don't forget to jump for the low Clouds. Climb up the small platforms and try to jump off the top one for another Cloud (I usually don't get it to work). Keep plowing; once you're up the steps jump for the first Cloud or two, but then sit still to grab the fast-moving Van. Then start jumping for Clouds again :P

When you finally reach the platforms, jump up off the first one for a Cloud, and ditto off the second. Then dash (no need to jump) over to the next platform quickly, to keep the huge woman from making the small guys fall out of your reach. Grab everybody, and when you fall push to the left a little to get the guys who fell ahead of you. Castle time, Hi Queen :queen <3

You should be 80-83m or so. Now, I don't think I'm really that good at catching things once the fireworks start, but if you haven't found a better method than mine here's what I do: Start holding down the dash button and pressing left before the camera even pans out. Then when it does dash left, then when you reach the edge dash right. You can just keep your finger on the button and you'll dash all the way across the screen. Continually dash left and right. For me the size I reach is random; I bet if I could learn to head for the areas with the biggest stuff falling I could do better.

EVENING:

Grab things off the mushrooms. Go slightly past the tree to trigger everything to fall and grab everything; repeat two more times. Past the two trees, carefully balance on the next bird to be carried up. I find it helpful to jump a few times while rising. Grab strawberries, then eggs and chicks, quick backtrack to get the cat, go forward to get the other cat, and jump down and hold to the left as you fall to get more cats. After climbing up the stairs skip :banban and :kenta :crybaby and go under the platform. Dash forward, then dash back to try to get the Radishes you missed (if any).

Dash forward for the flowers and dogs, and climb the stairs. Enter the first pit for :twinkle and :daisy, then the next for flowers and mushrooms, get :kinoko, then as quickly as possible climb onto the helicopter for a ride upward. First jump up to get three birds above you, then jump forward for as many birds and balloons as you can. Try for more birds and balloons as you go forward, then stop on the cloud that begins to move. Ride it, jumping for birds and fish (but staying directly above the cloud), until you see :nik and :odeko. Get them, then you have a choice. Either jump forward to be safe, or follow the row of tires downward to play chicken with a van. If you try choice 2 then jump as soon as you land, but even if the van gets you you still might be alright; keep trying to jump and move forward and you just might miraculously survive being pushed to the left side of the screen.

Wait just before the next high platform. Time your jump to land on the second moving van, then jump ahead onto the platform for the bowls. Go right and drop down; you can try to squeeze under the platform for the trash can if you want. Dash forward and jump onto the first step, make sure the man jumps, then backtrack to catch the man and tires. Climb up getting all the tires, try to squeeze down to get the bottom person, then dash forward and up, then down, the stairs.

Get two melons, jump and get two more melons, and if you can jump again for two more melons, then backtrack. Squeeze under the top platform and dash; keep your dash going until you reach the top of the steps with all the people in your katamari. Jump over the hole, then hover over the right edge of the hole to catch balloons; when you're near the left side of the screen dash to get a pole and then men.

Jump on the platform for :nickel , then go forward and jump on the van. If you're not big enough to pick up the van, dash forward for a little stuff then dash back for the van.

Now, a couple holes ahead, you will see a guy standing in a hole. Wait just a little bit, then drop into the hole to trigger a hot-air balloon ride. Ride it. Try to catch two or possibly three helicopters on the way up (but don't fall off the balloon). Now of course grab everything you can above the clouds, above the huge helicopter, and then ahead as you jump through the floating island grabbing the tree and as much island as possible.

Continue forward, jumping for clouds and flying vehicles, and collecting the raining kettles as they fall. You will reach a little stairway; try your best to keep jumping up from the top step to get helicopters (though for me this often doesn't work). Go forward to get the huge pole, and then jump like heck to try to make it onto the next ledge.

Castle time :) (I'm not very good at the castle part but I gave my best directions at the end of the Daytime walkthrough one post up.)

the other night, i got to the castle in night, but was about two seconds shy of getting it to count. :frusty :frusty

i need help on the night level i cant get up on to that stupid seagull no matter how many times ive tried i really wanna get up high so i can roll up more things instead of the grond section

It's really hard to stay up high the whole way in Night. Aaron wrote a walkthrough in the other thread, but I can write one too if anybody wants me to (though I don't think it would help). Yeah, to get big you want to stay up high the whole way, and ride the fast-moving helicopter when you see it to get even higher.

I think it's fun to fall down early and get so big you can pick up the stacks of people, but as far as I know once you do that you can't finish the level.

the only way ive seen to go up is on the seagull berfore the melon falls down, but its so hard to stay on the seagull ive only managed once and even then i got squashed

don't get me wrong, i love the 2-d levels...it's just that the night one is a pain to get through....too day there was no way of mapping out the entire level....now that would be soooo cool.

I discovered something very silly you can do once you're in front of the castle. Maybe this is already well-known. After the screen pans way out press Square. But whatever you do don't do this when you have a chance at a record diameter.

Doing this repeatedly I got a final diameter of thirty-some centimeters.

has anyone got a technique to get up high on the night level? this is really frustrating me

I'll try :P but I don't know if this will be helpful. Once you drop down to the lower level anywhere in the stage I don't know if it's possible to get back up.



NIGHT

Do everything you can to stay as high as you can the whole way. Otherwise you won't get very big and it will be very difficult to complete the stage.

Jump over all the holes and grab all the stuff and cousins and :prince at the start. When you reach a platform that's three blocks long right after two big blocks that fall, then the work begins. Wait on the three-block platform until you are almost at the left side of the screen and then jump carefully onto each platform ahead of you, being careful to hit only one platform at a time (they will fall). It takes practice to get to the two birds.

Wait on the birds, then jump down onto the clouds. Jump the next two jumps quickly so the King doesn't push you down (or use Aaron's strategy). Be careful on the clouds, the one with strawberries will fall and the one with a cat and a garbage can will move right (ride it). Wait on the cloud with the fish until you see another cloud and make the big leap (while writing this I missed the jump :lol gotta start over). Follow the line of chicks downward.

Wait on the block until you're at least to the middle of the screen, and jump quickly from falling block to falling block. You should be big enough so you can't fall through when the middle two blocks of a platform fall down. Wait, then jump onto the second-highest and then the highest falling block (with strawberries on them), then carefully land on the left edge of the next ledge. When you can see higher blocks to the right dash across the falling blocks, then carefully balance on the top block until the helicopter is fully in view. To become big you absolutely have to ride the helicopter.

After going up sit on the high platform without jumping until the King flies by, then get all the stuff. Drop down; set yourself up so you catch both the row of guys and the row of clouds as you descend, but after a while make sure you're holding right, or else you'll land on falling blocks and fall to a lower level. The safe solid blocks are to the right. Wait a while before you push the lamppost, then climb to the end of it and jump.

Climb over the houses, get a few trees to the right, and then go back and get the houses. Keep going; if you can get some clouds and the crumbling blocks below you all the better. I don't need to explain the rest; jump for clouds etc. and hopefully you can reach about 148m so you can make one big final pick-up :woot

It is possible to complete the stage if you fall to the bottom (sometimes), but it is much much harder and you'll end up smaller.

I can't get through night either. I'm going to try slo bro's tutorial. I have a question though- How do you dash in 2D? Same as in 3D?

I never figured out you could dash on my own. Aaron taught me. Press and hold X while you're moving to dash.
