There is one points category where even I can identify what objects will score points and what won't - red things. I bet that category was thrown in to give people something easy to identify.

Well, I tried a play through one of the big stages in Eternal, picking up as many red things as I could the whole way. And it worked - for the first time ever I got a 2-million-plus score in the ranker board (it was 2.02-million-something so I just barely made it). It might work best to play a different stage than Royal Monument since the Katamari On The Funk area seems to have so few red things. In any case, how high a red score can you manage?

Other categories would be harder to figure out just what will score high, but still it might be fun, and a very long project, to try to score high in each category individually like that, it would certainly be more interesting than my old idea of collecting 5000+ things and putting up so-so high scores in every category. A FAQ that lists all the objects that score well going through all the categories would be a monumental task, and might be so long GameFAQs wouldn't accept it :lol

Who knows, maybe eventually people will want a ranker board in the Hall of Fame?

edit: N I C E, in the rankings board try clicking on one of your scores. One possibly very useful piece of info you'll see is a list of three objects you picked up during that attempt that scored big-time in that category. Looks like The King's Father scores big in lots of categories - he is Big, Cool, Cute, Grand, Sweet, Naughty, Adult, Capable, Gaudy, Funny, Popular, Exciting and Traditional. And I just noticed that the Queen is more Grand than the King.

I think a ranker board is a good idea...just not yet, maybe...I dunno...maybe I should set up a poll or something....

What's with some ranks having text and some being just numbers?

You get different pictures depending on your grade - D, C, B, A, or S ...
Text means you accomplished S-rank, the ranker's highest ranking, usually a million plus ...

I think I used the word "rank" too much ... geez this smells rank ...

do the words change or are they one rank per rank for the ranking board? (:P)

Also, if we made a ranking board, would we put the text, the score, the character, and your rank or would it be best to just do the score?

I think the score tells the whole story. Then again people might want more info on the board, I don't know.

So far the words don't change for me, in a given category anytime you get words they will be the same. i.e. 1.6 million gives the same words as 1.3 million, ditto for 1.09 million, anything under a million you don't get words.

But if somehow you could snag each S-rank (million plus point) picture from your PSP onto your PC and put one of those next to each category on the scoreboard, that might really look cool ... maybe ...

I don't know if we would or not, but it would be really interesting if we added the character people used to the board, though it would make the board EVEN MORE complicated. We've never added the character used to any other scoreboard, but it would be interesting to see if people think the character used should be added to this one ...

This is another one of my off-the-wall, probably bad ideas. We could put up a whole ranker board, or we could list the top scores in the first three categories and then for the 50 or so million-point categories, we could just ask people for their one highest score on any of the rankers, and for THAT list it might be fun to list every tidbit of info, like the character used, the words, the category, etc. etc. This would be a simpler scoreboard than having all the categories, but I don't know which (if any) way people would want the scoreboard done.

Like look at the first page, I'd be talking about snagging that exact picture of a katamari and adding that image to the scoreboard, and doing that for the image next to all the other categories too. Probably not a good idea, but ...

but i wouldn't do the character, rank, etc for every category of we did all 17 pages of the ranking board...that would be absurd.

I would be willing to do all info for maybe the first two or three categories and the rest just the basics.

I think the basics would be the best way to go. The words and pictures are totally based on your score, only the cousin isn't.

No need to add a little 15x15 or so image next to each category on the scoreboard, that was just an idea.

I'd say either list all the categories in all the pages or just list each person's one highest number ... I'd lean toward all 50 or so categories.

edit: So my two ideas for a rankings board would be either:

1. make a list for every single category (in other words a scoreboard with 49 categories), or

2. make only four lists - one for each of the first three columns, and one for all the big points categories combined, where people only list their very highest score of any of the categories. For that list we could include things like category name and cousin used if we wanted to.

umm, or 3. Wait, and don't put up a rankings board anytime soon.

the top 3 were disinfectant, red flower and watermelon slice...

i think the scoreboard would be too big if we added pictures...

then again, it would already be massive if we added the ranker board...

By pictures I meant the little picture of an apple on the ranker board, and only one picture per category, not one per score submission ... lol I never made that clear did I. Probably not a great idea anyway but hey, thought I'd bring it up.

Holy cow, good job on the red things.

Most people wouldn't have the patience to do that.

I really think you could clear metal things by watching for metal things the whole way through, and Super Tank I think is referred to as "heavy metal." Heck, I think I might go for that today.

As for serious, it is the one category where I never got a million in the Japanese version, and on the US I only cleared a million by a few thousand points, I really don't know how to go about that one.

BTW I do have a million on everything, mostly thanks to my 5000-item playthrough, but many of my scores are only a tiny bit more than a million.

Out of all the layouts i could come up with(did three so far), I think this one may be the best in terms of size and such. If I make the font's large, the page will stretch on and on forever. I think keeping it small like this would be good. The scores that are there are just place holders for seeing how it would look....

i don't think that many people would post their scores and it's good that you found a solution to the size issue...

the people that might post their scores: yoda, slo_bro, vix, prince's bride, alaskadave, third cousin, jag, aaron... i think the most # of people on the scoreboard is 12...


EDIT:yea i think you should bold the categories or else it's harder to tell the difference from the scores and the people...

Don't worry about the gap on the bottom row, that will be taken care of...the only other thing i could see doing is making the categories a wee bit bigger...i just hate adding in more formatting as it makes the actual post a jumbled mess when you go to edit it.

i think it might be easier to add a second scoreboard because then it won't be so long and mods will have an easier time editing the scoreboards... :shrug

That looks like it was a lot of work.

I'm sure you thought of having only two columns in just the top row and three in the rest, so that each row would be for one page of the island's ranker board.

hmm... i'm wondering if you could perhaps make the first and last rows centered?
that would make it look more uniform but i don't know if you can do that....

*if* i added in another column, say for page numbers, I could feasable center it between the four columns...I don't think there is any other way, but i can play around with it.

i just barely made it on metal and serious, but: I finally got 1,000,000 on everything!
