Title: Deviant Art
Description: Who else has a devart account?

Saiyan-Silk - March 4, 2006 12:12 AM (GMT)
Does anyone else have a devart account? My page is http://saiyan-silk.deviantart.com/
If you want to start an account go here: http://www.deviantart.com/join/

If you don't know what Deviant Art is, it is a place for you to put your art, meet new people, get comments, look at other's art, etc. It is really a great place. Check it out, if you have art you want to show ^-^

I've thought about get a DA account but I dunno...

SocRATes - March 4, 2006 07:20 AM (GMT)
I have one (already posted on another thread): http://socar.deviantart.com/

DA is pretty annoying to navigate, though. I prefer Epilogue and GFXartist quite a bit.

Oh? I never heard of them before. Are they any good?

SocRATes - March 4, 2006 07:51 AM (GMT)
Well, none of the freebie art sites are perfect. They all have at least one annoying problem going for them. It doesn't bother me much, though, because I also have my own site where I can post whatever I want, however I want it.

A few notes on the bigger freebie art sites:

Elfwood (elfwood.lysator.liu.se) - Very good site for amateurs--there are no quality restrictions, so anyone can post and get constructive feedback, even complete beginners. There are HUGE numbers of members (definitely tens of thousands, if not more than 100,000). On the downside, they only allow fantasy/sci-fi art, and their definition of sf&f is pretty narrow. Also, it takes quite a long time to get new submissions online, because they have to be approved by their moderators.

Epilogue (epilogue.net) - Good site for professional and semi-professional artists. The focus is on showing off the best fantasy/sci-fi art has to offer, but the definition of sf&f is pretty broad, so you can get away with posting things you'd never sneak by on Elfwood. Unfortunately, it can take quite a while to get new art approved, because a) the site is currently having server issues, and b) there are only a few editors looking over thousands of submissions. There are quality standards enforced, so beginners can't post there.

Elfwood is pretty liberal about nudity. Epilogue can be a little on the prudish side, sometimes.

GFXartist (gfxartist.com) - A community-oriented site, with a lot of very talkative and helpful members. Any non-pornographic subject matter is OK, but although there are no official quality restrictions (apart from only posting your best work, stuff you put an effort into), some users can get pretty nasty if they think your work is substandard. There are always a lot of flame wars going on over there. I never go there just to check out the drama. Really. I swear.

CGsociety (cgtalk.com) - This site is more of a forum than a gallery, but they do pick out good submissions and save them in a gallery. Only digital (computer-created) art is allowed.

Digitalart.org - Another site for digital art only--I haven't been there in ages, since I no longer do any digital art.

All these sites are pretty good, though, in spite of having some downsides. It's impossible for one site to please absolutely everyone, so the best thing to do is post at ALL of 'em, and enjoy the good features.

I have one
My deviantart page

It's very outdated though. I need to put more stuff up, but unfortunately I have a crappy scanner and my laptop isn't connected to it anyways.
