Title: AARON/ SLOWBRO this is for you

waxc3 - February 15, 2006 07:54 PM (GMT)
your page at http://www.vgmr.us/games.html
is pretty cool. i was so excited to download your
As Large As Possible 5, 3600m with 7 mins remaining file by slowbro.

BUT SO SAD when i saw it ends at 3600! dude! why didnt you keep going :(
will you ever make a movie doing that well but going WAY bigger with your remaining time? id like to see a crazy huge huge huge As Large 5.

i am excited to get the rest of the movies later this week. i always wanted to watch a cowbear file, and a crane file (i hate the cranes! im missing like 100 of em!).

so slowbro. any chance of a longer star5 movie?

The Prince's Bride - February 15, 2006 09:13 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I saw the ALAP 5 and Sumo Med so far. It's very inspiring stuff, and I agree, I was hoping slo_bro would go all the way with his video. Anyway, after watching the videos, I'm going to try to improve my scores. Aaron, are you also going to post 100% Zoo level? That one is causing me problems.

What she said...

aaron - February 15, 2006 09:29 PM (GMT)
I still need to record a 100% friends XD
I'm trying to get my cap card to work better first, though... I'm having some encoding issues. Gah, this would be much easier with internet on my pc :(

slo_bro - February 15, 2006 11:30 PM (GMT)
Whoa, I just realized I should use spoiler text in the first paragraph.

Maybe I should have gone as big as I could in the stage 5 video. But I can tell you what would have happened.
< I would have found one or two more clouds which increase my size quite a lot, and I would have found lots more pieces of islands which increase my size only the tiniest little bit, and, depending on whether I found 1 or 2 more clouds I would wind up either about 3618m or 3633m. Then, with three or four minutes left, there would have been absolutely nothing left to pick up > :crybaby
edit: I can still do a longer one if you want me to.

But I'm REALLY glad you liked our videos, and I am holding out hope to watch The Prince's Bride's 9m Campfire video sometime :thumbsup

edit: I could do a Friends ALAP 100% (which would CERTAINLY take me several tries before I manage it) if you want one and if Aaron doesn't want to do it, but I honestly don't know a really good route through it. For the last two or three minutes I'm just backtracking looking for all the now-tiny friends I missed. So while my Zoo video might wind up marginally impressive, it wouldn't really teach anyone anything. But if you still want me to I'm certainly willing to do it!

If there is anything else you want me to do personally, post about it on my thread in Aaron's forums (or here if you don't want to join Aaron's forums)

Again, it's SO nice that you like our videos :woot

Sully - February 16, 2006 02:39 AM (GMT)
What gratification do you gain from learning how to complete a board by seeing someone else do it? To me, that completely destroys the satisfaction of completing the challenge on your own. Once you know exactly how to do something, why bother?

Don't get me wrong- I love the videos (keep 'em coming!), but I don't watch any that might give spoilers to challenges that I haven't yet completed on my own. It's one thing to get a hint or a nudge in the right direction, but just like my take on official strategy guides- why bother playing the game when you can just read through the book?

waxc3 - February 16, 2006 12:24 PM (GMT)
to sully:
i like to watch people play games like this! i have to play alone (with ALL of my games) and katamari is the kind of game you want to share.

i have watched a few of my friends play but they get like 500 m on make a start alap5. i want to SEE someone better than me.

watching the videos a month ago taught me where 2 rings are in save the pandas that i never would have found.

this site by vix inspired me for a while to improve my scores since i could see how good or bad my scores were. i THOUGHT my fire scores were good and my panda scores were bad, but once i got this site i saw the opposite.

i understand the dont want to see spoilers thing totally. but after 100 hours of we love katamari im not going to see any spoilers on these guys videos. ive seen it all so much already.
for me, the videos rule... but only the really good ones! (ive seen enough people play poorly in my own house).

slowbro: i would like to see a full video of make a star as large 5 by you or anyone who can beat you. i think to beat your scores you would have to grab more things early, but still get big quick enough to grab all those big clouds.

slo_bro - February 16, 2006 05:17 PM (GMT)
A video where somebody gets over 3635m would be very cool. But I personally have never figured out how to do it, so I think it would have to be by somebody else. But I will experiment :) with exactly what kinds of thing I'd have to stay and pick up when, kind of like how people made it over 880m instead of the high 870's picking up islands in Make The Moon.

...You flatter me, slo_bro... But I was looking for a good route on Zoo level to get 100%; if no one else will do it, I would still like you to record a 100% friends, if it isn't too much trouble.

slo_bro - February 16, 2006 07:17 PM (GMT)
100% Friends recorded :) along with a video of ALAP3.

I'll probably send these to aaron very soon, assuming he wants them.

Heh, let's try to swamp aaron with more Katamari vids than he can handle :D

But before I send it is there anything else anyone wants me to record? ALAP4 (but I can't do quite as well as the best scores on the scoreboard)? Racetrack 23m 80+cm? Any other ideas for me?

I'll stop bugging you for your Campfire video, I know you're sending it.

waxc3 - February 16, 2006 07:22 PM (GMT)
i just watched cowbear vid.
thanks!
i will never bother to actually get that one so it was nice to see someone do it.

when you buy a new game or two every week, ya dont get to master all of the games. no cowbear for me. no million roses. no superfast anythings. no perfect saturn rings.
but man did i love as large 5 and save the pandas!
:china

aaron - February 16, 2006 08:12 PM (GMT)
I'm glad I checked here... I was about to run a friends amap XD
And I doubt you can overload me with vids ;)
Just maybe overload my server :\

Oh, and sully...
Go download the morrowind 7min30sec run from speeddemosarchive.com
I down own morrowind, but I know enough about it to know it had well over 100 hours of gameplay.

You watch to learn what you're doing wrong or could do better. Or find crazy glitches like in the morrowind run.

Sully - February 16, 2006 10:53 PM (GMT)
I definitely have no problem with speed runs or glitch videos. I have no problem with any game videos, actually. I was simply stating that I personally find no gratification in, say, being unable to get the CowBear on my own without watching a step-by-step walkthrough. Or having an average time on, say, ALAP5 until I watch SloBro and then copy (or even improve) his run. But this is just me- I prefer to accomplish things on my own (although, as I said, I have no problem with minor help or a nudge in the right direction, particularly when it comes to a missing item, etc). I don't mind being pointed in the right direction, I just don't like having my hand held thre whole way.

Oh, and I do enjoy watching your vids, but I don't watch them for game help or spoilers, but rather to see how you were able to do things so well (SloBro's ALAP5, for example). you have clearly spent a bunch of time with KD/WLK and it shows by your stellar gameplay.

I'll gladly check out the morrowind vid, although I couldn't even tell you what morrowind is as of my typing this.

aaron - February 17, 2006 01:14 AM (GMT)
Morrowind was a long first person action rpg on the pc/xbox... It was more dungeons and dragons style... The speed run does the game no justice, it's just amazing to be able to do a 100hour quest in 7mins30seconds by a few enchanted items/glitches

aaron - February 17, 2006 05:45 AM (GMT)
Aaaanywho
Back on topic...
I'll PM you, slo_bro, from my boards, in case you don't get to read this for whatever reason, but...
I recorded a vid of Campfire Small (5m6cm5mm) and compressed it tonight, will probably be hosting it tomorrow.
Also, mecha compressed his panda run with XviD to an .avi, so it's more compatable now...

The wlk section on the site so far is amazing... Now to get other games...

slo_bro - February 17, 2006 05:49 PM (GMT)
FIVE METERS in Campfire Small ^ ?!??! :eek :drool

edit: SIX METERS in Campfire Medium \/ ?!??! :eek :drool

vix - February 17, 2006 06:49 PM (GMT)
I got a 6m15cm9mm on medium campfire....I'm gonna try to record and see if the quality is any good....

aaron - February 18, 2006 12:02 AM (GMT)
Oh, and slo_bro, my run is recorded ;)
The run before was actually 5m0cm2mm, but then when I recorded it I got 5m6cm2mm.... A decent improvement for that level :P
I may run it more, but I'm done recording :D

Dr. Thinker - March 8, 2006 09:26 PM (GMT)
Aaron, I got a few size runs captured and hosted for you, feel free to grab them for your own site.
Stage 1 ALAP - 35cm4mm
Stage 2 ALAP - 1m14cm7mm
