Title: Luke Skywalker - ESB

Cayden Maverick - February 6, 2008 10:10 AM (GMT)
This is a reskin of Toshi's Luke Skywalker pack, turned into Jacen Solo, and back into Luke Skywalker from ESB. There's still a lot of work to do, but I figured I'd throw this up there and see what people are saying. I'm going off one reference picture, cause I can't seem to find any out there.

Yes, I do realize it looks very similar to the Jacen skin I made, though hopefully that wont be for much longer.

It still using Toshi's un-adulterated Luke face from his pack. The same belt and basic texture as featured in my skin. Modified pockets from refs, though I can't quite get my color down on it yet, I am working on it. To be honest, this project isn't as big a concern to me as my Jacen Solo project, however I will be working diligently to make this as perfect as it can be, so as to further separate it from my Jacen skin.

Besides the color, and the shoulder pocket that seems too dark and not very detailed, what else can you guys see? Belt needs work too. I'm open for comments.

Looks okay, Cayden. As you pointed out, the issue of the color of Luke's outfit needs to be addressed first and foremost. I'll fish around for some reference pics for ya on that one. I had an idea about the head. First off, it'll need to be made dark blonde or light brown instead of dark brown like it is now.

EDIT: Cayden, check this thread out. Deus Drone was going to do the same thing you are, he just didn't ever release it. The thread has a few reference pics. but I'll look for at least one or two more.

Okay, here's my two:

Bit lighter, eh. Desaturate your skin a bit Cayden, and I'd say you've got it spot on. user posted image

Tyrael - February 6, 2008 08:24 PM (GMT)
It's a grayish jumpsuit, not brown.

Cayden Maverick - February 6, 2008 10:30 PM (GMT)
Alright, I think I got the color down pretty good, and I let up on the texture quality to make the more smooth cotton type of fabric his jumpsuit is.

I haven't done the hair yet, the belt needs some tweaking, and the pockets are still a little too textured.

Monsoontide - February 6, 2008 11:17 PM (GMT)
You could always have the "clean" look and the "battle damaged" look (for after Luke's fight with Vader... it gets a bit messed up).

self_destruction - February 6, 2008 11:21 PM (GMT)
I think he might be a little too white.
This is one of the best ESB pics I've seen of Luke.
There's a hint of that creamy beige needed.

And hey, thanks for taking this mini-request for me, I really appreciate this.

Furry_Rodian - February 6, 2008 11:52 PM (GMT)
A handless version would be pro. ;)

Pahricida - February 7, 2008 01:08 AM (GMT)
Right now it's just a bad color change job really too saturated.
Besides the haircut doesn't fit ESB luke imo.

The Chosen One - February 7, 2008 01:51 AM (GMT)
Well about that, would there be any way he could edit the head texture and add more hair to it, or is it part of the model itself? Would that solve the problem? Also, don't forget about the boots. They need to be changed as well to look like the ones in ESB. And about those pockets on his buttocks, there aren't any. And I had forgotten, the packs on the belt need to be dark brown, kind of like the belt, but just a hint of the silver-white for where the button snaps are on the packs. As far as the ones on the back of the belt, if they were just painted on, they won't need to be there. Luke didn't have any packs on the back of the belt, to my knowledge.

I found a pic of one of the Sideshow Collectibles Luke Bespin dolls that might help with the coloring and the look of the boots:

I'm having a problem blending the leg meshes after I blur out the fabric texture. I'd hate to have to go back and remake the texture from scratch, and I've tried going back to my base Jason skin and go from there, but everytime I try to eliminate the fabric, it does this. So, I am working on getting rid of that, however here's an update on the skins color.

I haven't started to fix the belt completely yet, cause I want to fix this problem before I move on, but it is on my to-do list.

Deus_Drone - February 7, 2008 07:39 AM (GMT)
Hey, since we are on luke ESB this is my attempt,
I used Haps luke for the texture and Toshi's luke for well.. Luke.

This is what I got after I reworked the texture to suit my needs.
The ass and crotch is dark so that the legs and ass and crotch properly blended as I had to create the ass and crotch from almost scratch.

Ass...Crotch...Ass...Crotch...I won't say, ''We get it'', but I will say, ''Groin and Buttocks.''

I'll also say I think both skins look pretty groovy.

Yeah, this is sweet! I tried to do this once but had no GOOD luck.

Jorka - February 7, 2008 10:36 PM (GMT)
Hmmmmmmmmmmm, both look nice but I really think both still need more beige in them and a more smooth texture.

I dont know what to suggest because I'm not a great skinner myself, but dont get me wrong, they're still looking good, just need to be lighting and more smooth I think.

Second Start - February 7, 2008 10:40 PM (GMT)
Theyre should be 2 versions: Battle-worn and normal. the one that is right now is good for normal and then for BW darken it and give rips/scars.

The Chosen One - February 8, 2008 04:57 AM (GMT)
Good progress so far, Cayden. Keep going!

Monsoontide - February 8, 2008 07:26 PM (GMT)
I already suggested there should be the clean and battle damaged looks! ;)

It's looking better now (But I do notice a few details missing - mostly various stitch/seam lines - like the horizontal seam just above his belt line) I think if you take the time and pay closer attention to the details from the photos (eg the size of his breast pockets and the fact that the pockets on his shoulders aren't "armbands") it will help considerably - though of course the only way to get it looking great would be to actually work on the model itself...

The Chosen One - February 8, 2008 08:31 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I know what you mean by that, model-wise. Unfortunately, this is probably the closest anyone will ever see to a good Luke in the Bespin outfit. I don't know if Haps will ever come back to his model of Luke in this outfit ever again or not. That is completely up to him. If he doesn't, then we'll have this, I guess. I went and looked at a pic Haps threw up on his old page at Tripod, and from the looks of things, it looked like Raven's model with some extra things added, at least at that stage. Whether or not Haps worked on it anymore, no way of knowing. Enough of my blabbering.

About that, I wasn't so concerned on getting that detail out when the leg mesh became a problem. It's not intended to be an arm band at all, and yes the pocket is too small. Its supposed to be the seam on the arm, and I haven't got to making it right quite yet.

Still concerned with crouch area, and as for the seam line above the belt? You only see that after Luke twists the belt to the side and it falls down his waist after he starts battling, and I'm not too fond of it. And to be 100% accurate with that, I'd again have to model the skin, move the belt lower, twist it to the side, add the holster, extra pocket, and then I could make the belt seam. My biggest concern right now, is getting the color perfect, eliminating the fabric texture, and fixing the leg meshing problem.

I updated the face and head a bit here, still a little tweaking that needs to be done with the hair obviously. Added the holster and thigh strap, though I'm going to work on the holster a bit more. I obviously need to re-texture a lot of things, but I haven't got to that quite yet, so be patient with that. Next on my list of things to do, are the boots, and possibly making the cargo pockets a little 3D.

self_destruction - February 19, 2008 10:49 PM (GMT)
Looking good, keep it up.
Can't wait to use it.

Jorka - February 19, 2008 11:03 PM (GMT)
Looks really nice dude!

Definately make the pockets 3D, helps a lot for realism.

Zappa - February 23, 2008 07:02 PM (GMT)
I like it really looking great!

Second Start - April 6, 2008 12:06 AM (GMT)
Any updates?

self_destruction - April 6, 2008 01:48 AM (GMT)
I'm sure if there were any, they'd be posted.

Second Start - April 6, 2008 02:02 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I know. But sometimes people forget or are too lazy to. Im guilty for that sometimes.

Cayden Maverick - April 6, 2008 03:16 AM (GMT)
I haven't gone any further on this, since I can't weigh the models myself. I've been too jammed with work, school, life to try and learn how to do it. I attempted a couple times, but I think something I did somewhere messed things up.

I think Jorka offered to do Jacen, I'm hesitant to hand it off right away - no offense Jorka - but I'd like to give Jacen one last try before handing it off. I like to complete the things I start.

Jorka - April 6, 2008 03:50 PM (GMT)
None taken.

Still add me on msn and we can talk it over, perhaps I can help you do it yourself.

Cayden Maverick - April 6, 2008 04:06 PM (GMT)
Sounds good, Jorka. You're added, but I wont be around much today. We'll talk the next time both of us are on MSN.

Viktor88 - May 1, 2008 10:53 PM (GMT)
I think you should consider about redoing his shoulders, because in his suit from TESB they look bigger than in ROTJ. Really, consider that, it would help a lot to its appereance and it would just make it look properly.

To be more specific - they should be less oval

Cayden Maverick - July 7, 2008 02:46 AM (GMT)
Here's a little update, since so many people have been asking about this model.

user posted image

Latest update:

Hair tweaks
Improved and modified the holster and belt pouches

Things to come:

Reskinning obviously; hair, body, everything needs to be retooled.
Modeling the boots
Adjusting chest/torso proportions.

I'm pretty comfortable with hair the hair looks.

I think there are also some pouches and packs on the back of his belt, but I cannot find a single reference image that shows'em. I'll have to go and watch ESB again, but I'm not sure when that will be - it could be tonight, it could be in 3 months. I've got a number of projects under my belt right now, and another Luke model in the JKA community isn't really my biggest project. I do understand people have been waiting for this model for quite some time - not mine in particular, but any Luke ESB at all, so I will complete this - its just a matter of getting the reference images I need, and making the time to do make the right modifications - and then also weigh the model.

Second Start - July 7, 2008 02:55 AM (GMT)
The face is iffy but everything else is almost perfect!! Good job man.

self_destruction - July 7, 2008 03:25 AM (GMT)
So does this mean you'll be releasing the model to the public after all?
Last I had heard you were going to give it to a select few or something like that.

I have some very hi-res screen caps that would help, some great back belt shots.

Cayden Maverick - July 7, 2008 06:55 AM (GMT)
Those screens would really help me get this done faster. And yes - I've decided that after like, 20 pms, I might as well release it to the public, as it'll end up there eventually anyway.

self_destruction - July 7, 2008 07:35 AM (GMT)

The Chosen One - July 14, 2008 03:11 PM (GMT)
Coming along nicely, Cayden! Can't wait to see it! :)

Spanki - July 14, 2008 06:38 PM (GMT)
what about Jacen ??

Sereryth Nykalath - November 23, 2008 11:26 PM (GMT)
Bump. >:

self_destruction - November 23, 2008 11:35 PM (GMT)
I have the strong urge to call you out on being a noob, but I'll just quote Cayden.

QUOTE (Cayden Maverick)
So, its been quite a long time since I've worked on this model, or any of my other ones and I've been thinking about picking them back up and finishing them off - however, the main part I can't finish off is the weighing part, and to be honest, the reason I stopped working on all of my projects is because I couldn't weigh, and I couldn't find someone to weigh for me.

If there's anyone interested in weighing this model, as well as my other models, let me know.

Luke ESB
Katarn -NJO Era

I do have a few other models that aren't featured here, and if I could get help weighing those as well, that'd be awesome. Thanks.

So yeah, someone needs to weigh this ASAP.
