Title: Spell Practice (Open)

Roger Wood - August 8, 2007 01:35 AM (GMT)
Roger had heard from fellow Gryffindors in their Third and Fourth Years that there were all sorts of cool places to visit in the Hogwarts castle; especially if you wanted to dodge sight from the Caretaker, Professors or Prefects when you're out late from the Common Room. Roger was informed of secret passageways, portraits that allowed access and other rooms that were good to check out. Roger had seven years to spend at Hogwarts so he figured he might as well learn about it in depth.

It was already around nine o' clock as everyone was just coming from dinner. The First Year Gryffindor figured that tomorrow after the last Lesson and before dinner he would check the library for an informational; but popularly rated "boring" book called "Hogwarts: A History" to find out more about Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. However, he had learned about the Armor Gallery on the Third Floor and had eagerly wanted to try out his spell work more. If anything about being a wizard, Roger loved what he could do with a wand in hand. His favourite thing to do was spell casting. It sent a sensation, pleasurable surge throughout his mind and body which fed off his enthusiasm to make the First Year love magic more. He wanted to try out some of the spells he had picked up in Charms, DADA and maybe Transfiguration. Unfortunately, the Common Room was crowded so that wasn't an option. And that was when the Armor Gallery came to mind.

Despite the rumour that the armour sometimes comes to life in light of security, he wanted to check it out. He might be the kind if kid to stick around and read a good spellbook but his spell casting urge was much stronger. After all: wasn't he in Gryffindor instead of Ravenclaw for a reason? He left the Common Room while leaving behind a nasty-tempered portrait of the Fat Lady. Somehow, only spotted by the Fat Friar somewhere on the Fifth Floor, he safely made it to the Third Floor and easily found the Armor Gallery. As he looked around, it was a room dedicated to the many types of armour that Hogwarts had obtained. Unknown to the First Year why there was a room dedicated to armour, he ignored the thought, took out his wand and began thinking over some things to try. His spell knowledge was only limited to First Year magic but it was good enough.

"What to try out first?" Roger asked himself.

Jason Jones - August 8, 2007 01:42 AM (GMT)
"Heya firstie," Jason said, appearing from around a corner just down the way. He of course was taking a guess at the boy's age, but Jason recognized his face, and was pretty confident at where he placed him.

He smiled brightly at the Gryffindor, cocking his head to the side in thought.

"Er, what's your name?" he asked in a slightly strained tone, making a face as though he were trying to recall it himself.

ooc: sorry about the shortness in comparison to your lovely post, lol, but my creativity is winding down.

Roger was just about to try out a Hex he picked up in Professor Thanatos' DADA Class when he was interrupted by a voice in the Armour Gallery. Worst of all, he knew it came from a student older than him. After the voice spoke out, Roger froze on the spot; no sounds coming from the First Year. The most active thing was his mind; streaming with thoughts. Was it a Prefect behind him? How much trouble was he in now?

He slowly turned around and saw the Ravenclaw boy. He didn't look old enough to be a seventh year; maybe a fifth. There was no Prefect badge so no harm was in it. He was a regular student just like Roger.

"Firstie?" he annoyingly thought as he kept on looking at the guy.
"The name's Roger Wood........ and you might be?" he inquired the older Ravenclaw.

Jason Jones - August 8, 2007 02:20 AM (GMT)
"Jason," he replied, somewhat distractedly as he rolled the boy's own name over in his thoughts. He surveyed Roger for a moment, his brow slightly furrowed with intrigue.

"Wood...as in Oliver Wood? Not by chance related to him, are you?" A slow smirk was now spreading across Jason's face.

Roger Wood - August 8, 2007 03:20 AM (GMT)
Roger was afraid of this. Was this going to torment him all throughout his time at Hogwarts? Being known only to be the son of Oliver Wood? Just perfect. Maybe it was better ignored saying his last name to people or better yet just lie if they ask. Sadly, in inability to lie properly was one he always despised about himself.

"Uh.... yea.... yeah that's my dad," he replied with a low and sad tone in his speech and body movement as well. Now what was going to happen?

Jason Jones - August 8, 2007 04:14 AM (GMT)
"Cool, heh," Jason said, after a mild pause of mere smirking. He thought about cockily mentioning that his girlfriend's adoptive father was also quite famous himself, but really, that wasn't all that impressive.

"Bloody brilliant Quidditch player, for sure," he added with a shrug, picking up on the boy's signals...he obviously did not want to discuss this particular subject.

"Erm...so..." He let his hands mindlessly trace the rough stone surface of a nearby wall as he spoke, searching for a new topic. "...doing spells, are you?" he finished, eyeing Roger's wand.

Roger Wood - August 8, 2007 04:29 AM (GMT)
"Yeah. I know he has. He's the reason why I love watching Quidditch so much. Especially when you get to watch the games from the Top Box," Roger jokingly mentioned. He knew he couldn't always display a sour attitude when his dad was involved. So, he figured it couldn't hurt to talk about him.... just not so much.

Roger saw him eyeing and thinking what else there was to talk about. The Gryffindor was just about to open his mouth when Jason made an query about his wand in hand. He forgot to put the thing away if it was a Prefect. Soon enough, patrolling was gonna start.

"Uh.... yeah.... I'm just practicing what I learnt in class."

Jason Jones - August 9, 2007 03:29 AM (GMT)
"Right eager of you...I slacked of my first month here, which resulted in my parents' first threat to have me removed from Hogwarts and instead taught at home."

Jason smirked, laughing softly in spite of himself at the memory, then once he returned to the present, he shrugged and nodded at Roger's wand.

"Care to have a go at dueling? Bound to be better than practicing against these blokes," he said, indicating a suit of armor next to him.

Roger Wood - August 9, 2007 03:42 AM (GMT)
"Well actually I've been getting a lot of comments about my "enthusiasm". Sometimes I wonder if it's just me or I'm actually hearing something behind my back called 'The Gryffindor Bookworm'."

After hearing Jason's request for a duel, Roger shrugged just a bit. At that point, he really wanted to know what year Jason was in. He never dueled before and he even got nervous that he might forget the incantations. He sighed and looked at the armor. For a minute, it looked as if they twitched.

"A duel? Well... it'll be my first but... what the heck?.... we should hurry before any Prefects or Professors come here; or Filch and his cat. I hear this is the Forbidden Corridor. Oh Jason..... is it true the armor comes to life?" he nervously asked.

Jason Jones - August 9, 2007 03:57 AM (GMT)
"Yep," Jason replied with a quick tongue, pulling out his wand.

"I wouldn't worry though...it's typically only if they get hit with a spell. So long as you aim carefully you should be fine," he added in all seriousness, before pausing and flashing a wide grin.

"Right, well, anyways...it is your first duel, so...let's see then, what have you learned so far? First year was four years ago, you'll have to fresh my memory."

Roger Wood - August 9, 2007 04:25 AM (GMT)
Roger looked cautiously at the different kinds of armor in the room. Why does Hogwarts want with this much anyway? Maybe as a defensive measure. Well, yet another query for Roger to consult the "Hogwarts: A History" spellbook tomorrow in the Library.

He then looked back at Jason and responded, "Sure. Uhh... Just the basic stuff. I haven't done anything Practical in Transfiguration. I know the basic Charms ... First Sixty Spells. Pretty basic. And in DADA, I learned some cool things like Blinding Hexes, Disarming Charm, Bat-Bogey Hex and stuff like that."
