Title: Lesson Two: Year One
Professor Andrew Drew - July 24, 2007 11:16 PM (GMT)
Professor Drew stood at the front of the class and motioned for silence. In an overly excited tone of voice he instructed, "turn to page three in your textbooks. You will see two pictures. One girl is under the influence of dark magic and one is not. Considering that the pupil of the eye will often dilate when under the influence of dark magic, which girl is cursed?"
"Do remember that the pupil is a hole in the iris which controls the amount of light that enters the eye. In absence of light, the pupil dilates -or becomes larger to allow more light to cross the threshold. In the case of a curse, it is almost as if the eyes were begging for light." Professor Drew almost seemed to smile at this thought. "So, if you notice dark eyes in a well-lit room --you have reason to suspect dark magic."
No one appeared to get busy quick enough for Drew's liking. "I suggest that all of you write down the answer and turn it in to me quickly before I decide to make an example of what you see in your books. The Ministry of Magic forbids that First Years see such magic, but I might just make an exception." He paused a moment and waited for a reaction. Everyone seemed so serious, "just messing with your heads!" He laughed, "Now, get busy!"

OOC: PM your answers to me. If you're correct, you'll receive five points. Role-play in reply to this post for five more points. If you post a very creative role-play, you'll receive ten points.
Sean Sacrat - July 25, 2007 10:26 AM (GMT)
Sean was shocked when he threatened to curse them... Deeply shocked but when he said it was a joke he felt werid, proffesors should not threaten students like that! He thought Oh well might aswell get to work
Sean finished first unbelieveably he checked his answer almost ten times feeling quite strange he brushed off his answer and walked, quite slowly and purposfully, towards the proffesors desk. "Here's my answer sir," he said handing the proffesor his piece of parchment the green and silver ink shining in the light oh how he loved writing in his house colors!
Sean walked back to his place this time faster and when he sat down he realised quite a bit of the lesson had to go so he relaxed and studied the book for a bit longer...
Phoebe Anima - July 25, 2007 04:41 PM (GMT)
Phoebe sat at the back of the class today, twirling her quill between her first to fingers. Her headache seemed to have grown in the last few days, and nothing seemed to help. She seemed to be the only one who didn't find this subject at all freaky. It was not as though she were a fan of dark magic, but being the curious person that she was, she could not help wondering what it would be like to be locked inside your own mind with no control over what you were doing.
At Professor Drew's joke, she stifled a giggle. She knew that he would not harm a student. It was a lame joke, she had to admit, but Phoebe was easily amused. Her neighbor gave her a horror-struck look and she sank deeper in her seat like she had in the first class.
When Professor Drew finished speaking she leaned forward over the desk and glanced at the two pictures. The answer was obvious and she pulled a piece of parchment out and scribbled her answer in her smooth elegant scrawl. But as she dipped her quill into the ink well, she pulled her hand back too fast and the ink spilled over the desk, soaking her paper and spilling over her skirt. "AH! Oh no!" It seemed when she was burdened with her empathy, she was clumsy. She extracted her wand from her robes, pointing it first at her clothing, then at her paper. "Scourgify!" The ink vanished from her clothing and paper as though it had never been there.
Satisfied, and proud by her small accomplishment, she stood up, smoothed out the paper, and moved toward Professor Drew's desk with renewed grace. No tripping today. She set the paper of his desk, said a quick "Here you go Professor Drew." and skipped back to her desk with a few eyes on her back.
Roger Wood - August 9, 2007 09:33 PM (GMT)
It was the second Defense Against the Dark Arts Lesson and once again, before the Class began, Roger entered the Classroom with his wand in hand and ready to learn some spell work or just practice what was in the textbook. Yet again, he was mistaken and he saw spell books out which obviously meant Theory. Roger quickly made for a seat in the back and placed his wand in his robes before Professor Drew had a chance to tell him off again for having a wand out.
He took out his books and parchment and turned to the required page. then, he listened to Professor Drew's short speech. How.... exciting. He really liked being a wizard for the wand. He didn't get a chance to use it yet. Well... excepting the night trip he made on the Third Floor two nights ago. As Roger daydreamed, he snapped back to reality when the Professor abruptly stopped speaking and looking at him. Roger' reflexes were to quick as he snapped his hand forward for a quill but ending up shattering his ink bottle in the ground. "Perfect," he said to himself as he looked down.
"Reparo," he said with his wand out. The ink bottle returned to its previous state. Roger picked it up and placed it in his bag.
"Scourgify," was the next incantation he muttered with a pointed wand to clan the ink off the ground. "Sorry Professor," he shyly retaliated.
His wand was in his pocket and he just got the assignment he had to do from a neighbouring classmate. After writing the answer, Roger was about to stand up to deliver the parchment but somehow, it blew away and went off further from Roger on the ground. Roger scowled as he looked at the faraway parchment and pointed his wand at it.
He muttered a spell and it began to blow away further from him but closer to the Professor. It then blew up in the air and landed on his desk. He didn't speak after that little screw-up.

"Very good, Sacrat. I see you've been paying attention."
OOC: 10/15 --Your RP was creative, but you've got quite a few spelling errors. Remember to spell-check.

"Very good, Miss Anima; and I see you've managed to clean up your mess -at least there's no tripping today," he teased in a hushed voice. He didn't want to disturb the other students who were hard at work.

The professor watched silently bemused. He had to place his fist over his mouth to stop from laughing out loud. When the parchment finally reached its destination, he replied, "thank you, Mr. Wood. Though, next time, you really could just bring it up without the use of your wand." A smile flickered across his face.
OOC: That was funny! 15/15 :)
Rowean - August 14, 2007 02:13 PM (GMT)
Rowean was sitting by an unknown Hufflepuff and listened to the best of her ability, taking in and memorizing every word. Opening her book, Row looked at the two pictures. Sighing at how easy this task was, the girl took out a piece of parchment and color changing ink. Now summoning her Hippogriff Feather quill from the depths of her book bag, the Ravenclaw First Year wrote down her answer.:
Don't post your answer here. Send it to me in a PM - Professor Andrew Drew
Walking so gracefully it seemed as if she were gliding, Rowean made her way to the front of the room where she handed the professor the piece of parchment held lovingly in her palm.
Lee Vilenski - August 15, 2007 10:50 AM (GMT)
Lee opened his text book to the page in question. There was two pictures that were identical apart from the eyes, like a spot the diference competition. Somehow both pictures looked quite eary. He picked out his longest quill, the one that could nearly tickle the person sitting behind him and wrote in one long drooping letter "Diagram..." He then looked up at both pictures, it was obvious! He wrote down the answer and passed to the professor at the front.
Ro Copur - August 16, 2007 10:30 PM (GMT)
Ro leaned over the page taking in every inch of the diagrams. She couldnt help noticing the similarities between the bright crystal blue of the diagrams eyes and of her own. The answer appeared so simple, and obvious, surely it couldnt be right. It couldnt be that easy to sport somebody under the influence of dark magic could it?
She lifted her glasses and rubbed her eyes.
No, it still appeared to be the same answer. Oh well she decided maybe it is the obvious answer.
She picked up her black quill, straightened her parchment and began writing her answer. It was only short, for once, and she had soon finished. After watching the others hand in their papers, with varying degrees of success, she walked up to the Professors desk and placed down her answer. Underneath was scribbled the question to was too shy to ask aloud in the quiet classroom
Is there anyway to disguise the effect, such as through tinted glasses or muggle contact lenses? Or through a charm?
Cody Hamren - September 1, 2007 10:32 AM (GMT)
Cody blinked a bit as he went into the classroom. For some reason he felt like he had something caught in his eyes, it always bugged him when he got things in his eyes, and it seemed to happen with a bit of regularity. He shrugged it off as he sat at his desk, dropping his book bag on the table and pulling out the Defense Against the Dark Arts book, because he would surely need it. Most days he needed it at least. He then grabbed his book bag and moved it under his seat, making sure it wasn't blocking the aisles.
He listened to the teacher, and was a bit surprised at the length of the assignment. So far most of the assignments had been short, which seemed... Unusual. They'd probably start giving the bigger assignments later in the year. He shook his head a bit, opening up the text book to the page with the diagrams. For once he was easily able to tell the right answer, which made him a bit suspicious. The simplest answer is always the cleverest, though it's never right. He spent a few seconds looking between the pictures, making absolutely certain he was right before writing down his answer.
He rose from his seat quickly and started walking toward the front desk. It seemed that the class room must cause bad luck, as as soon as he started walking he realized that his foot was snagged by his book bags carrying strap. The combined weight of the books in the bag, surprise of it all, and the fact that the bag was snagged on the desk managed to cause Cody to fall. He had never been very smooth, and his clumsiness was shown.
With slightly pink cheeks he got up, and unwrapped the book bags strap from his leg. He then walked slowly over to the teachers desk and deposited the piece of paper, and slowly walked back, sitting back down. He made a mental note to not store his book bag beneath the seat, or if he did make sure it wasn't wrapped around his leg.
