Title: The definition of Spam

Michiko - August 23, 2006 07:36 PM (GMT)
Some people seem to have differing opinions on just what spam is, and I'd like to get a clear-cut definition, if that's possible. My understanding of spam is as follows:

Spam (n) - 1. Canned substance that can be loosely defined as meat
2. Unsolicited email
3. Posting the same thing over and over, often without regard to others. (ex:) posting FISHY!! ten times over. (aka flooding)

It does not, in my book, merely mean getting off topic... at least, not in most cases. There are definite times I'd classify something as forum spam, but sometimes what one person calls spam is merely a deviation off of the original topic (and still a worthwhie conversation), as is the case in pretty much any conversation, electronic or not. There's only so much you can do with one topic, after all... Of course, I could be wrong, which is why I would like to ask for a set-in-stone definition to reference back on.

Spam- 1. Yes, the nasty processed meat in a can
2. Posts that are completely useless, unessecary, short and off topic. *Like in the SSF*
3. Continued posts of the same repetative process. '

<_< I'm pretty sure you people are aware of what is spam on the forums and what is not. Afterall I yell at you for it. And even if its not defined as spam, its still useless and NOT allowed.

Well there is a difference between a introjection, off topic discussion and spam. I think spam is way more irrelevant than any one of the others. Spam is something that is irrelevant to ANY of the topic(s) discussed within a thread. Such as shameless plugs and/or ad's that are stand alone posts in a topic about People's personalities. IN other words things that is completly useless and non relevant to anything pertaining to the topic(s) discussed withen a thread.

Off topic is just that off topic discussions about something that was mentioned that does not have a direct corrilation to the original target objective in a thread. It usually thrives for a couple of posts.

Introjections are basically a piece of information pertaining to a topic that may be considered helpful to understanding and/or recognizing something being discussed with in the target conversation. Such as a History referance to munich Germany when talking about the last couple of episodes of fullmetal alchemist or some of the other meanings in deeper rootings. Or even a introjection of someone else's opinion on something that was said which may or maynot pertain to the original target area in the thread but may differ from someone else's stated opinon in the thread about something. Which to me is considered somewhat on topic.

And on a side note if this topic was due to the exchange in words in the team sign up place i got everything straightened out with the boss so there is no worries about that.

Krazydog - September 15, 2006 09:07 PM (GMT)
Let's just say, if You SPAM and I catch you in a NON SPAMMABLE area, then consider yourself unable to post for a while. <_< I'm not joking, I'm laying down the iron fist. Even some certain individuals refused to abide to simple rules. Not gonna tolerate it anymore.

D'OH. What if someone is trying desperately to raise their count so they can join a team?

xPanic - September 16, 2006 12:07 AM (GMT)
Tyler. Spamis not allowed outside of spam zones, you need 10 posts to make a team which is no excuse for spamming.

Krazydog - September 16, 2006 01:13 AM (GMT)
<_< Also, if you spam just for the sake to increase your post count... I feel sorry for the team you join. I mean, seriously.

Tyler Jorgensson - September 16, 2006 01:18 AM (GMT)
I am sorry. From now on i will keep my spaming to a minimium.
