Title: Joining Packs
Description: What do you think?

Calypsis - March 22, 2008 05:05 PM (GMT)
I don't know how I want to do it. You guys decide! Ha.

Saosin - March 22, 2008 05:37 PM (GMT)
I think they should have a thread with the pack Alpha IC-ly, but maybe there should also be other ranks that characters can have that allow them to accept new members, too, so it isn't all the Alpha's responsibility.

Ahas - March 22, 2008 06:00 PM (GMT)
IC-ly. That makes it a little more interesting on what terms the wolf actually joined the pack and what not. An Alpha can be involved or another wolf in the pack that already has some sort of status could vouch for the newbie.

I dunno', it doesn't apply to me until I make my wolf character one of these days. >_>;

Like guardians or beta's HI Maddeh

Have a thread in the pack lands and be accepted ICly.
- - - - ----- -- --
I've seen other places do this and they got
over-run with threads because several people
wanted to join. It was tiring, and unnecessary.
Eventually everyone switched to making it
an option when auditioning. ^.^; xD

I think that a thread would be best, since then the Alpha can get a feel for the wolf, and decide if they would be a good contribution to the pack.

Calypsis - April 1, 2008 09:01 PM (GMT)
Okay, I can definitely see both sides of this logic, so here is my plan. I'm going to combine a few of the suggestions...see what you guys think.

What if, to join a pack, you initially PM the alpha and then decide between yourselves(the alpha and the joinee) if an IC is necessary or if you will just be OOCly accepted.

Give me some feedback...

Rhayven - April 2, 2008 01:20 AM (GMT)
That sounds good. So the alpha doesn't have 20 people to reply to at the same time...I see...O.o if thats what you mean...X3

Skarldemarsh - April 2, 2008 12:42 PM (GMT)
I still think being ICly accepted is good, because you can't just have a wolf go all "OMGZ I'm YA NEW MEMBER COZ I GOT ACCEPTED YESTERDAY" when there wasn't an IC reference to it that can be made. It'll get confusing.

A meeting to "initiate" the char into the pack is a good solution, but if a wolf just gets accepted OOCly, it'll lack context and consistency.

Okay, I don't think my post made much sense, but I tried to word it the best I could. I'm not good at English ((it's not my native language)), so please bear with me.

Expelled from Reality has a system where the RPer first decides OOCly what pack to join, asks the Alpha for permission and all that, receives said permission, and makes a thread asking for admission. Meanwhile, Betas can also accept, but the Beta-accepted wolves remain as a lower rank of Subordinate until the Alpha meets them personally, whereby they may get promoted. I think it's a cool one, and we can sort of modify it and have something alike, but not totally identical (('cos that'll be plagiarism)). So now, the Alpha isn't overstressed and the Beta gets a greater sense of duty/leadership/authority/whateveryoucallit.

So, yeah, was that helpful?

Calypsis - April 2, 2008 02:20 PM (GMT)
Hmm...I like the idea of an "initiation" type thread. What if you PMed, or in some way got a hold of the alpha, and had your wolf OOCly accepted into the pack sort of unofficially. So then, your wolf can kind of pitter about the pack lands informally accepted, and then have either a beta, alpha, or shaman, or any wolf deemed able, by the alpha, to accept members, meet them to "officially" accept and rank them.

That way, people can be "in" the pack, but it should avoid the swarms of threads all at once that will go along with a required IC thread.

If that didn't make sense, here's the short version: OOCly talk with the alpha, get permission, stalk pack lands, have thread with a wolf allowed to accept members.

I think it would be a good idea too, if the alphas could choose wolves they trusted to allow membership as well, that way it would take the strain off of JUST the alpha and beta.

I agree with this idea, Katy.

</lateness of post>

What will we do for being accepted into packs until then? Until there are other characters that the Alphas trust, that is. They really shouldn't atomatically trust any of them. So, the Alphas may still get swamped with that system, even if only at first.

Clarity - May 6, 2008 06:39 PM (GMT)
Personally, I like the initiation idea but when we first start the packs we should have at least a few wolves who are already in the pack otherwise the alphas will literally get swamped o_O;. It's like the wolves who wanted to not get initiated would tell the admin and the alpha and then they could join and you could have a certain limit of wolves who did not have to get initiated then begin the initiating threads. Either that or we slowly introduce new members which would take a long time or have extremely active alphas... or something else if I can think of it. I don't know

Wouldn't it be interesting IC if the alpha was getting stressed out and overwhelmed by the number of new wolves joining? 8)

Really I like handling things IC rather than OOC. IC decisions being made OOC can, in some situations, create some pretty weird and unrealistic situations. Extreme example, but what if there's a character who would be accepted OOC, but IC has a personality that the alpha would absolutely loathe and not allow in her pack? What then?

Anyway, wouldn't it be logical for Calypsis to already have a pack? I mean that's kind of what is assumed, isn't it? I think it would be totally logical for people to be able to choose to have characters which they join as being pre-existing members of the pack (obviously that option will have to be shut off once a certain amount of IC time has passed and there's a good base of pack members established).
