Title: Desperate For A Meal.
Description: [p] Calypsis

Detai - March 17, 2008 06:38 PM (GMT)
Detai sat along the lake shore on his haunches, while staring out at the water, and looking like he was deep in thought. The sun was somewhere around the highest point it would be in the sky, it was an all around pleasant spring day with the sounds and smells that came with that time of the year.

The brute however was not enjoying the day as much as he would have liked, his stomach growled at him, and demanded he find something to fill it with, but his attempts at finding food had turned up empty pawed. The rabbits, small birds, and any other animals he might be able to catch on his own... were all doing a very good job of hiding from him, which left only fishing.

Fishing however, was one of his least favorite activities, and it was mostly due to how poor he was at it. Eventually he could of course manage to catch something after long stretches of frustration, but it would rarely be much to write home about, typically a small or sickly fish, and he hated the taste of fish. Detai released a light sigh from his maw upon deciding he needed to get a fish or go hungry, before slowly starting to wade out into the chilly water to hunt for something he thought tasted terrible.

Gosh, I'm so sorry this took so long...I had work on St. Patricks day from 4 to 4 basically, and then class all day the next day, and then closing again that day. Very very very tired. But! Here I am, finally. Yay!

Today was, by all accounts, a fantastic day. The wolf, who was traveling through the forest at a quick, easy trot, wouldn't have changed a thing about it if she could. The sky was filled with enough puffy clouds to keep the sun from being blinding but enough warmth came through to make the day a very comfortable temperature. She was happy to back in her more natural, agrestic setting. She'd taken several trips to the town lately and the strange, foreign world of the humans made her uncomfortable. She appreciated the forest, so many individual species, plants, animals, trees, shrubs, weeds, grasses, all of those things made up a forest. It was one thing, but it was a million things all at once.

The multi-hued wolf was making her way to the lake. Today would be an excellent day to visit such a place. The waters would still be cold from all the meltwater, but it would be a nice place to relax for a while at least, and, in the meantime, she could watch the small fish and aquatic plants. She didn't have much farther to go before the trees would open up before her and the lake would materialize. Her paws took her nimbly across the mossy ground, stepping over fallen limbs and small tree trunks which had been weeded out by the larger, healthier trees. She began to see the trees thinning slightly, and more light was visible through the trunks of the far trees. Here she was. Her trot continued and her head breached the tree line and into the clearing that held the lake.

The sun only accentuated the unusual coloring of the wolf, her pinkish, redish, orangish fur. She was an odd concoction, but she liked it. Immediately, she saw the other wading into the shallows of the lake. Fishing no doubt. A second later, another tiny head poked out of the woods, probably unnoticed by the other wolf. A tiny chipmunk. The creature looked around and scurried to keep up with the long-legged wolf in front of him. Calypsis looked back at the creature running after her and smiled, stopping and waiting until he caught up enough to catch a ride on her tail. She merely nodded at the other, unsure if he even saw the gesture or not. She stretched her legs behind her, and then dipped down, stretching her front legs. Making her way to the shoreline, a spot with quite a bit of vegetation, she lay down, he paws dangling over a small dirt ledge that had been eroded by the waters. She was just far enough away from the other to not invade his space, but not on the other side of the lake either. Her paws were just barely in the water, and her eyes were intent on the life below her, the life that called the water home.

OOC Sorry this took so long, and its kind of short. ):

IC

Detai had only just started to enter the clear waters to try his luck at snapping up a meal, and he didn't expect much to come of it, but his attention was drawn elsewhere before he could actually begin his fishing. A nearby approaching scent had drawn his eyes towards the woods, from which came another wolf, a very colorful one at that, but they didn't seem to have any interest in making the first move in contact. In fact they almost seemed to ignore the male as they headed to the lake as well, though they seemed to keep their distance.

Normally, Detai would have been content to ignore the stranger, continue doing what he had been doing, and simply avoided unneeded contact. Yet he wasn't really doing anything he wanted to be doing, and maybe he could mooch... or steal some fish off the other wolf if they were here for the same reason. That would certainly raise his chances of eating soon, given how poor he was at catching the slippery things. Detai slowly padded out of the water, shaking his paws to shed the excess water before slowly heading in the direction of the other wolf.

The lone male was cautious in his approach, knowing full well that it could turn badly if he acted too aggressive right off the bat, and intended to stop his advance about 6 feet from the other. "Hey there." he replied with a cheerful voice, a grin appearing upon his face to try and make himself appear friendly, though it was anyones guess if she would interpret it that way. "Are you out here for the fish as well?"

Ahh, I'm so sorry this took FOREVER. My fault and my apologies.

Calypsis's paws brushed the surface of the lake, the tiny waves lapping at her fur. The reeds were tall in the spot she had chosen to lay down and observe this other world. Her eyes followed the bright green stalks downward, noting that several of the grasses were home to some small snails resting just out of the water's grasp. As soon as the green plants breeched the water's threshold, they turned instantly to a slimy shade of brown. The silt had collected among the various species of algae that found their home on the sturdy leaves of water reeds. Other small patches of algae floated along the surface of the water near the shoreline and if she looked close enough, Calypsis, every now and again, would see some small, squirming insect larvae congregated under the green mats.

Her inspection of the water life was interrupted moments later by the other wolf who was sharing use of the lake at the time. The lady had chosen not to say anything at first, mostly because she was generally so awkward around strangers. Most wolves thought her rather strange for being content to just sit and watch the world around her for so long. And so, often, she didn't bother trying to introduce herself. He on the other hand, had approached her and seemed friendly enough. She pulled her paws from the cool waters and raised herself up onto all four paws, if only to be on more level ground with the stranger. He seemed harmless enough as he asked if she was out for fish as well. Truly, she wasn't particularly hungry, but she hadn't really eaten in a while. Maybe he was just looking for some company. After all, fishing could get a little lonely and it was usually a fairly tedious process.
