Title: Spells?
Description: Vote on it.

Nobody better pick that last one, it was just a joke. ^^
But seriously, here is the idea. First off, let me just say, I pretty much hate elemental wolf rps. I don't know why, I'm just not a fan, so if these spells were to be created, they wouldn't be like, oh you have to chose fire, water, earth, whatever; they would be more like healing "chants", or prayers for certain weather. There would be some that you could potentially use in battle, but I'm not a fan of fighting with magic either, so most wouldn't be specifically formulated to hurt other wolves, but there would be some.
It's just an idea, what do you all think? Don't just vote, please give me feedback as well.

Why is the only no "that's a terrible idea"? lol.
I dunno, and I think I'm much too new to have a say! I don't really know anything :P But, I'll add my 2c for what it's worth xD feel free to ignore me. I'm just up late talking too much again...
Chants for weather or healing sound like they'd fit really well with the whole shaman thing. I'd vote yes for those and no for the rest :P but, on the other hand, I think it would be totally natural for wolves to make combative spells if they had the capability.
I think it would be cool if healing chants weren't like BAM YOU'RE HEALED. And if instead it was stuff that just helped the healing to varying degrees depending on how good you were, and sometimes you wouldn't even be sure if it'd done anything (particularly if you'd only just learnt the spell! haha).
Same for the weather spells xD
"Okay, I did the rain dance. Can you see any rain?"
"Nope. Try do it a bit more..."
"... okay .... see any rain now?"
"Nope. Keep dancing."
"I'm getting tired."
"Aaaah a bit of cloud! I think it's working! Dance dance dance!! Oh wait. That was smoke."
"I hate you."
Oh man, can you imagine if it was possible to over-do healing spells? Accidentally "healing" someone's mouth shut or legs together. That would be AWESOME.

Don't ever feel like you're to new to have an opinion! I want everyone to get what they want out of the site.
But as far as what you said, that would effectively be how they worked, the spells wouldn't just make things happen instantly, it would help, take a few hours, a few days, depending on your characters skill level.
I like the over doing thing too...I might have to think into that...

I think it's a wonderful idea, and I agree with the limitations.
Healing or weather spells should ber more... Suggestions, to the body or the climate, pushing it faster/farther in the desired direction, if you get what I mean. It would take a while still for healing to happen, but it would happen a bit faster/better. Weather would still take a while as well, but again, faster/worse/better.
And combatative spells would be a natural thing to create for a predatory species, especially if they already had healing and other types of spells. Not like Avada Kadavera BOOm you're dead!, but like making the ground wherever they step a bit more slippery, or blurring their vision, or maybe causing their coats to get caught up in lots of throns (which would be cool in a spot where there are none!). Things that are more area spells that can be used to an advantage in a fight than actual fighting spells.

Hey. this is so cool. I likeeeee spells. XD
Anyways, my input is that maybe it's not "just" magic. There's some science involved, like, for example, the weather thing, where you work with the elements already present in the atmosphere. Like, perhaps rain on a humid day, instead of "Wham bam, blizzard!!!"-ish.
And the healing might have to do with the "magic" of the healer pushing broken bones together, but in a way that seems as if an ethereal self is doing the mending inside the body. Sort of a semihallucination.
I feel unintelligible.

I JUST posted my character and i know that he isn't done but I really like this site and I won't let it go to the deleted bin I promise. ^_^
I like the idea of chants and not necessarily spells. I agree Calypsis, I hate the elementals, that and the evil, neutral, good rpgs. Limitations are a good things because if you just let anyone have the use of spells you know everyone is going to use them.
Again I agree, "chants" go well for the shamans and maybe it could only work for the believers. Like every religion or superstition it seems never to work unless you really believe type thing?
Just limits. Limits are always good.

Those of you that voted against the idea, please let me know why...
I want people's opinions on the whole matter.

I can see why some people voted against.
For one, this would be extending much beyong the practicality of the world. Granted, having Shamans and magical stones are pretty much stretching it, but to give wolves real spells that have real effects might be over the tops. Take The Whale Rider, a book by Witi Ihimaera, for example. The Maori can speak to whales, have their own religion, etc. But can they do spells? Nope. So in some way, it is surreal but still accpetable. Spells go in fantasy. Besides, we're having a beliefs-vs-nonbeliefs thing here. With spells, the non-belief wolves will get a rude awakening, and pretty much defeats the purpose. And tasks like bringing a wolf back from the verge of death would be made easier. (AHEM. *Points at Skarl*) That lowers the possibility of in-game, RPed-out deaths, doesn't it?
Butbutbut! I'm for the idea.
Firstly, as mentioned before, this RP is already out of your average-day spectrum. Who gets multicoloured wolves and lupines with antlers? Not unless they are genetically engineered (which they are, actually, in a sense). And what with the beliefs system and the possibility of a real, residential god, a few nondangerous spells might be good additions. As long as there is a future god/a bunch of future gods that we can attribute these powers to, I'm all for it, and if we can actually incorporate science instead of magic, I'm even more for it.
Secondly, with spells, things get way cooler. People who have a taste for magic and the not-so-real would find it easier to accommodate themselves into the site. Aaaand, it is also easier to show that you have done something to your surroundings; something would be/should be happening soon. You don't have to yell complex words; a simple word might initiate, say, a healing process, or bring about rain.
Thirdly, we don't have to worry about this site being turned into an elemental wolf RPG/Good-vs-Evil RPG. As so many others before me had said, it's not going to be the fire-water-air-earth nonsense. It is basically centred around healing and weather -- correct me if I made a mistake there -- which is essentially harmless to an extent and would not be used actively to injure another wolf. I mean, have you ever heard of a wolf healing his adversary to death on the battlefield? Not unless he made said adversary's cells reproduce so fast that they become cancerous and suffocate the poor wolf. And I still stick to my notion of "using what's already there" instead of "creating something new". If you want to heal, you can make the cells reproduce and cover up the wound, or break down the sick cells and have healthy ones take their place. No trouble at all with the ridiculous nonsense we are afraid of happening, so why not go ahead?
Fourthly...
It'sfunkthnxbai.

I put down I don't really care since this has upsides and downsides and there is no choice for in between neutral and terrible
Anyways the choice of spells would give members more of an incentive to go on as you can buy more things at the shops for your wolves but it makes this site more of a fantasy roleplay when it isn't really that yet... well you get what I mean! I need to go now so I can't explain further but personally, I think it would be better without all the spells. I'm new though so I don't have as much of a clue as all the older members B)
