Title: Carly in People magazine again

NXH - March 6, 2009 02:41 PM (GMT)
I have the transcript of an article from People magazine (Mar. 16th issue - not sure if this out yet) about Idols and their "amazing" weight loss. Among those mentioned is Carly. I don't have a scan of this, but I will keep my eyes peeled.

SHRINKING IDOLS

If Simon could see them now! Since leaving American Idol, these stars have also left behind the extra pounds

2008

FANTASIA
  LOST 20 LBS.

The season 3 winner, 24, lost 20 lbs. by "working out every day," she says, and sticking with big salads instead of faves like mac and cheese and sweet tea. "It's hard because I'm a country girl," she says. "But I can't have 'em!"

2004

DIANA DEGARMO
  LOST 30 LBS.

With a "common sense" diet full of veggies, brown rice, fish and chicken, DeGarmo, 21, went from a size 10 to a 6. Today she allows herself some splurges, but "I won't eat a lot of pizza--just one slice and a salad," she says.

2006

MANDISA
  LOST 75 LBS.

After years of "living on fast food," she says, Mandisa, 32, started working out five times a week and eating smaller meals with more fruits and veggies. Now, with her album Freedom due in March, she says, "I feel confident in the way I look."

2005

JOSH GRACIN
  LOST 57 LBS.

Josh Gracin, 28, says deprivation diets worked short-term, "but then I'd gain it all back." So in 2007 he decided instead of dropping his favorite foods, he'd up his exercise. "Do I have cupcakes all the time? No," he says. "But as far as meat, eggs and cheeses? If you work out, it's okay."

2008

CARLY SMITHSON
  LOST 40 LBS.

"My weight crept up on me," admits Smithson, 25, who reached 170 lbs. last year during Idol. Now she watches portions, avoids bread and works out to Denise Austin DVDs 45 minutes a day. The best part? "I know I'm doing something simple to maintain," she says.

She was beautiful before...now she's just a healthier beautiful...

40 lbs? wow. I knew she had lost some ... I heard 15-20 lbs.

personally I think too much emphasis is put on weight (with respect to looks), especially when it comes to girls. Carly was stunning-knockout-drop-dead-gorgeous when she was "heavy".

I agree. I never thought she needed to lose weight and she actually looks smaller in person than she did on tv. But anyways, it's great that she lost some weight-I'm sure it's given her lots of extra confidence. Go Carly!!!

There is no way Carly ever got up to 170 pounds. I'm much taller than her and I know there's no way she could've been over 140 (my weight), probably not even over 130. I don't know where they pulled that number from. About a 15 pound loss seems right to me, putting her in the 110's or 120's now by the looks of her on tour.

But who cares anyways about the numbers. I mean geez she's beautiful but glad she's getting more exposure in a popular magazine.

I had to go to the store at lunch and they had the magazine, so I bought it. Here's the scan of her part. It's not the best quality scan but she looks great in the picture. Yay for Carly getting exposure in a major magazine!!!

Yes Amy, it is awesome that she is getting exposure in such a mainstream magazine! I just told my mom to go buy it!

This is great exposure for Carly! When her album comes out it will be less of a "where did she come from, oh she was the tattooed girl on American Idol" kind of thing.
