Smithson is eager for her second shot. After flopping on MCA as a teen, Smithson hopes that the five demo songs she's putting together -- including one co-written "with a Season 5 rocker" (Chris Daughtry, perchance?) -- will interest labels "in the real me."
And who is that? "I'm rock on the verge of being pop," says Smithson, 25. "On Idol, I wanted much more of a rock sound and I couldn't get it."
With her copious body art, Irish accent and big voice, Smithson was hardly a wallflower. So what does she think of judge Simon Cowell saying he hopes this year's contestants offer up more zest than last's?
"He has the largest and most annoying personality," she says. "I don't care what that man says anymore. That's the greatest gift of all."

It sounds like the information on her is old (since she mentioned the "season 5 rocker" around the holidays), so hopefully she's making progress with the labels by now.

This is great exposure for her too-USA Today is a nationally known magazine. Yay!!!

It won't let me burn it onto a cd-it's telling me that the file either has an error or is missing burn rights-not sure what that means? Help!!!

no idea Amy. I've never burned anything to a cd. all I know is I can play the mp3 with my media player. sowwie.

It's saying the media type is audio. I can play it on Media Player too but it won't let me download it and burn it-hopefully Shelly or Christine can help.

I dunno. real player says it's an mp3.

I've seen a lot of positive response to the song in comments where this has been posted. Even the commenters at MJ's Big Blog are giving it props.

Now what we need is a label. Or at least a distributor.

The snippet sounds awesome! It was basically just an extended version from the Rushfield video but still I'll take anything new. I really love the sound she's aiming for and it seems like public opinion of the song is pretty good from what I've read.

Amy, I can try to see if I can do something with the mp3 Jay extracted from the snippet. It's playing fine for me but I haven't tried to burn it or anything. I'll let you know if I can figure something out.

I really loved that she said this about her music-it makes me so proud that she's staying true to herself and making sure it's done her way. You go girl!!

I really like the sound she's going for too-her album is going to be huge when it's released.

Agreed Amy - I had heard a little of that song before in the LA Times interview and was expecting to be impressed - but even then I was surprised at just how good that little snippet was.

I'm just amazed and so proud of Carly every time I hear that song clip. And just think as great as that 30 seconds is, how awesome the entire album will be. I'm so looking forward to hearing all of it!!!
