Title: Let's Get To Know Each Other!
Description: Because Carly fans ROCK...

Shelly - July 27, 2008 03:07 AM (GMT)
I have loved, loved, LOVED getting to know Carly fans these past 5 months or so - I truly believe that Carly fans are some of the best fans in the world. So, feel free to talk about yourself or your experience with the fandom or with Carly... whatever!

So here is just a little about me and my experience in the Carly fandom: I currently have two jobs (+ Carly, who I consider my third job! :haha: ). My full time is that I work in adoption and foster care (which I LOVE - I have two adopted little brothers) and my part-time job is in retail. I started the retail job over Christmas last year just to earn a little extra money and that extra money has been so nice that I just haven't quit. Plus being a Carly fan is so dang expensive... :haha:

Funny side story: Right before St. Patrick's Day I was working at my retail job and this lady walks up to me and says "Since you're Irish, can I ask you a question?" and then proceeds to ask me about our St. Patrick's Day shirts. Needless to say that I was a little stunned because I'm not Irish (that I know of anyway), I don't have fair skin and my hair is Carly's natural color... so I have no idea. But now I want to delve into my family history to see if I don't perhaps have some Irish heritage... :haha:

Anyway, back in March, I started posting on AI.com. Everyone there was really nice and I loved getting to talk to other Carly fans. Then there were some issues with the fanbase name and all I'm going to say about THAT is that I consider myself a "Smithsonian" but I think you can call yourself, as a Carly fan, whatever you want. While at AI.com, I started some projects to cheer Carly up while she was on the show because I was sick of the media and the negative feedback so I could only IMAGINE how she felt. So fans at AI.com sent Carly postcards from their hometown, then we sent her a couple of arrangements of flowers.

Then Peggy and I decided we wanted to send Carly a t-shirt. Peggy offered to take charge of actually ordering the shirt since I had led all the other projects so far. Peggy and I talked and talked and talked about what to put on it and I found a shirt online that said "Simon Loves Me (but this is an old shirt)." Well, Peggy liked that but I didn't because I felt it implied that Simon didn't like Carly anymore so I suggested "Simon Loves Me (this week)" and the rest, I guess, is history. I remember after we ordered it, Peggy got upset and thought we should have put something different but I told her that our slogan was HYSTERICAL and PERFECT. I honestly will never forget the night I was watching Carly sing "Superstar"... she did such a fabulous job that I was bouncing up and down in my seat! Then I remember saying "What is that blue thing? What is she doing?" That's when I literally fell out of my seat! I never, ever, EVER expected her to pull it out on the show. I had hoped maybe she would wear it in one of the behind-the-scenes things but that's it. Seriously, what a shock!

After this project, I started the green wristband project - and Carly's own wristband was to be delivered to her during week 5. Well, we all know that didn't happen. So, I ended up sending it to her in San Diego. Last week, Carly commented on someone's green Carly wristband so now I know that she got it - YAY! If you want to order your very own Irish-green "Come Together For Carly" wristband, the instructions are on carlysangels.net. I will definitely be wearing mine at the shows I attend.

Next, I started the Finale Flower Project because we wanted to FLOOD Carly with flowers at the finale... and show her that she is OUR American Idol. What a crazy experience this was! This project is how I got to know Cheryl and Mel here at Carly's Angels so very well. We spent countless hours and e-mails getting this project set up. And it was totally worth it - we ended up sending Carly over $700 worth of flowers!!! And Marie even ended up calling the same flower shop and sending Carly an arrangement to be delivered with ours!!!

Last week, I started my two day Carly Camera Project - after seeing Carly in Jason's video blog, I started asking around and found out that Carly didn't have a camera, except on her iPod, which she didn't know how to use. SO, a handful of AMAZING Carly fans helped me out and we got her the new Flip Video camera and now she can directly upload her videos to youtube with one simple step. Cheryl and Mel are hand-delivering the camera TONIGHT! :D

I will no longer be posting much on AI.com because they BANNED ME for no reason and won't even tell me why. Plus they deleted two major threads - my tour thread and my birthday project thread - and also won't tell me why. Maybe they think I'm making money off my projects? (Yeah, right.) I don't know...

Anyway, I bought my first ticket to see Carly on the Tour in KC on the day they went on sale. A week or so later, they opened up another show in KC and I immediately bought a ticket for THAT show. Sadly, these are the only two shows I can go to - the other two shows that are even remotely close are St. Louis and Tulsa and both are 6+ hours each way. With gas prices the way they are, not gonna happen. I'll save my money for when Carly does her OWN tour. :D

Oh, and I almost forget - sometime this next week I am getting a Carly inspired tattoo. I am so very excited! The owner of a local tattoo shop has agreed to do but she's at tattoo conference right... so I'm waiting patiently. I can't wait! :D

If anyone out there is still awake after reading this, THANK YOU. And please share whatever you want about yourself and your time in CarlyLand... B)

Posting from my other thread...

Hi! My name's Dawn, I'm from New York. And I pwn.

Joking. About which one? Take a guess.

So, am I a Carly fan? No, I joined for kicks. Haha, I'm a huge Carly fan and I admit I kind of screamed whenever she was on screen. Hope my family or neighbors don't hate me.

Other things you should probably know about me include the fact I am a huge, huge, huge Broadway nerd. I will work a show or performer into any conversation. Much to the sadness of everyone around me. I love reality television. It's my crack. I also love to read alot. I'm very random and talkative, so PM me anytime.

Oh, and I intend to marry David Cook. Of course he knows.

Can't wait to start posting and/or see if anyone actually cared enough to read this whole thing.

Shelly - July 28, 2008 07:34 PM (GMT)
Um, how is he going to marry you when he's already going to marry me? That could be a problem... :haha:

Oh, and I'm sure I'm not as big of a Broadway fan as you but I did see Les Miserables when it toured to my city - it was amazing! And I loved Rent, the movie, and would love to see it live. :)

hi --i'm ken. i'm an older guy who loves music. but it's very hard to find an artist who is what i really like. i love green day and motley crue, and alot more. and american idol produced kelly, carrie, kellie and carly. these are some great artists. but i really don't like country (but i like some country rock), so that brings me back to carly. carly is just perfect. she's exactly what i've been looking for. so we're lucky to have carly as a new and upcoming artist. but carly is also lucky to have fans like shelly and also she's lucky to have all of us here, as well as all her loyal fans everywhere. anyway, i'm very excited about the future music that will soon be coming from our girl carly. :ipod:

Matthew - July 30, 2008 01:55 AM (GMT)
My name is Matthew.
I'll just explain how I came to love Carly.

Anyway, I'm going to be honest. Carly wasn't my priority at first. I mainly took a liking to Amanda Overmyer, but when she went home I wanted to put my votes to someone that I liked musically. Then, when Top 10 week came around I found that Carly was my favorite performer. From then on I continue to support Carly and vote like crazy for her. My mom noticed I started getting a little obsessive with the show when Carly was eliminated with her performance Superstar, I was just shocked and sort of mad.
Anywho, Carly was someone who really grew on me and I will continue to support her by doing whatever I can to make sure she's a success.

So, yeah...the back story of my Carly fandom...

Mystic - July 30, 2008 01:47 PM (GMT)
Might as well post here :)

I'm Judith, 18, from Northern Ireland. I'm a student and I work in retail (which sucks, but like Shelly said, it's money, so I haven't quit :haha: )

I liked Carly's first audition and got completely hooked when she sang Alone. Unfortunately being in Ireland, I couldn't vote, but i'd go on Youtube Friday morning before school just to check that she'd survived for another week. I'm a long-time IDF and AI.com lurker, but I post here and on IDF now.

I wish I'd be able to go to the tour, but I'm consoling myself with helping on Shelly, Melanie and Cheryl's Carly projects instead and hoping that Carly will play a homecoming concert in Dublin sometime soon that I can go to B)

And as for tattoos, hopefully going to get one in California next summer. :D

randomkoosh423 - July 30, 2008 07:06 PM (GMT)
Hey, i'm amy, and i'm 15 and from PA.

hehe. let's just say i have been a majorly obsessed fan since... hm, since she first opened her mouth at auditions? lol! she instantly grabbed my heart, and has not let go since.

its been a bumpy road since then i must say. i voted for her SO MUCH each week, i just couldnt stand to see her go home. oh and the worst part, was that she just happened to be eliminated on my birthday. worst day of my life  my hope is that the tour make up for that :P but anyway. i started out on the AI boards like right when the season started. this was actually my first season watching idol (and probably my last... i dont think my parents can handle any more of my obsessions lol!) but yea i'm a member of the fighing irish, and the smithsonians fanbases an am an active member on the fighting irish boards.

i loooove getting to know carly fans, because they are amazing! what can i say ;)

so yea thats basically it. tour coming up in 3 days for me, so hopefully i'll have a great story to tell!

Shelly - July 31, 2008 04:03 AM (GMT)
YAY, Amy, your show is coming up soon! :w00t:

I voted for Carly every week too... for the entire two hours. Man, did my hand hurt after that! But it was totally worth it...

I was totally devastated the night Carly left - I just couldn't believe it. She should NOT have left. I have watched other seasons of AI and have even voted a little (but nothing like this season). I still think Carly is THE best contestant ever to grace the AI stage and I think AI really missed the boat when they didn't get behind her...

Hello! I'm Melissa (Mel) i'll be sixteen very soon & I'm from Jersey. I usually post on IDF(iluvxcarly) & the idol boards(BitterSweet_World) But now I'm loving this forum too. Nice job Shelly! I'll be seeing Carly on 8/2! I'm so excited, I can't wait!

Carly just always amazes me. I have been a fan of hers since Come Together but I loved her audition. I think she's adorable, beautiful & true. Shes my idol

1dbad - July 31, 2008 07:42 AM (GMT)
Well I thought I may go ahead and make myself a little known ;) My name is Dakota and I'm 14(will turn 15 on September 9th!! :w00t: ).I live in Bertram,Texas, which is a very small town,in fact its not even on some Texas maps(XD).I start High School after summer vacation is over, which I am very nervous about.I have quite a few hobbies, such as how I love to draw and write.I also like to write songs, hang out(on and offline),and I do love to make videos for my youtube account. Now,as for music,I absolutely love music.I live for it and breathe it.Now for music tastes,I have a very large number of favorite artists in many different genres.

But anyways,I first started to love Carly when I first saw her audition on season 7 of American Idol.I found out she tried out on season 5,but I never watched American Idol til a good friend of mine got me started on American Idol during season 6.And ever since,I loved the show and many people from the two seasons I watched, and the previous seasons.:P But I remain a proud Carly fan and hope to make some friends here^^

mcaro05 - July 31, 2008 02:34 PM (GMT)
Hi everyone :) My name is Megan, I am 21 years old and from Detroit, MI. I'm about to be a senior in college and after graduating would like to work in a children's hospital as a child life specialist.

I was also a non Carly believer at first. Then she blew me away and I hopped on the Carly express! I was devastated when she got sent home, as I'm sure everyone here was. I have listened to her performance of "blackbird" more than any other song haha. I got to meet her on tour and she is just as sweet, outgoing, and friendly as she seemed on TV. I love her !

Lstn2Me - July 31, 2008 03:01 PM (GMT)
I have completely redone my intro. See my post farther down .....

*Bailee - August 6, 2008 06:18 AM (GMT)
Let's see. I'm Bailee. I'm from good ole Southern Illinois. And I just love it here. Or something like that. I'm 18. (Legal!!...Actually, the only thing I have ever done using my new found opportunities is buying cigarettes for my friend who is only 17)...but anyway. So I've loved Carly since the second I saw her, I knew she would be my favorite as soon as I watched her audition. A few weeks into the series, I started going to IDF again, became friends with some of the coolest people on earth, and became completely and totally obsessed with Carly.

Right after the top 12 show aired, I decided to start up my own Carly fansite, Just Meant To Smile. Since then, Carly's pretty much been my life. I walked around every wednesday morning with my back hurting because of all my voting on tuesday night, but it was so worth it.

I got to meet Carly in Indy on July 22! I also got to hang out with Cheryl and Melanie, which was pretty awesome. I'm going again on September 11 to Evansville, which should be pretty amazing.

I guess that's all for now.

Shelly - August 6, 2008 06:30 AM (GMT)
Oh, so you'll be there when they deliver our gift basket to Carly! Very cool - I'm so jealous! :cake:

Oh that was a good memory. I reacted similiarly. My wife and I were watching, and when Carly showed the shirt, I pointed at the TV and started yelling "That's the shirt! That's the shirt her fans got her"! My wife though I had gone off the deep end cause I was so excited. I NEVER in my wildest expected Carly to do that.

pifcat - August 7, 2008 10:38 AM (GMT)
I'm "Felix" on MySpace, "pifcat" on most forums, and "neo914" on YouTube. I am nearly twice Carly's age but my immaturity and enthusiasm helps me keep up with y'all, lol. I live in expensive SF Bay Area in a quaint part of town surrounded by mil+ $ homes. My hobby is working on old Mercedes and an old Porsche where "old" and "working on" help makes them semi-affordable. This explains my YT name. I should be an artist or designer after graduating from a renowned art school but ironically work as an engineer for most of my career being in the Silicon Valley. People who've seen my work can't believe I still use marker and chalk. I'm working on a change to a creative job so I bought Photoshop and a Wacom tablet to color sketches or create some photo blends.

I've never watched Idol or anyone on it for that matter until this season. No one has ever impressed me as a real talent until Carly appeared. She had me at "I'm Carly" with her great story, sincerity, and to this day I believe she should have won it or at least got to the top 2 with DC or MJ. Apparently she rarely got the songs she wanted and never got deserved props for her performances. I'm suspicious of AI voting and will unlikely watch next season. I was so mad reading the East Coast blog when Carly was eliminated that I didn't watch the show that night and any other night until the finale.

I participated in a few of Shelly's projects and even got a bunch of us guys (including Jay) from 2 forums to pitch in for finale flowers. It was hectic as many of us waited until the last minute, LOL. You would think Carly would have more male fans but we are in the minority at least on the forums.

I influenced my 11 year old daughter to be a big Carly fan which prompted her to create the "Carly Rocks" poster and videos of it being signed and others using her music. I'm really glad she didn't become an Archie or Jason fan but our music tastes are similar. She's happy to be part Irish from my wife's family genealogy. My wife has little interest in Idol so my daughter and I were power voting 1200+ for Carly during performance nights.

My daughter and I were very fortunate to meet Carly July 8 in sweltering heat at a cost of over 4 hours. I had no idea what was going to happen but my daughter was set on meeting her after barely catching a glimpse of her before the concert. Carly loved the poster and hugged my daughter while I stood by with temporary paralysis. Marie on her MySpace said they all loved the video. I created a MySpace account which is another thing I would never had done "pre-Carly". It may be considered obsessive but tracking her success and positive reviews makes life more enjoyable to me... ;)

You wouldn't be jealous Shelly if you would COME TO THE SHOW. I checked it's 9 hours. You could so do it.

carlysangels - August 8, 2008 01:40 AM (GMT)
Okay, so I thought I better do this since we've been mia (sorry everyone!). So...
I'm Cheryl and I'm 27. I live in small town Ohio with Melanie, my partner of 8 years (and brand new wife, at least in Canada) and work at a billboard company as the production manager/graphic designer.

Melanie and I are huge music lovers - we met in Montreal when we were both there for Celine Dion's New Year's Eve concert and hit it off immediately. We love going to concerts and love following our favorite singers. We love Celine, Tori Amos, Regina Spektor, Alanis, Northern State & Tegan and Sara to name a few.

So, we started watching idol in Season 3 because Melanie's brother was always talking about it. We loved the ridiculous auditions and there was always one singer that caught our eye and we wanted to see how they did. Some of our favorites were Amy Adams, Katharine McPhee (we went to see the tour this year because of her - but only one show, Shelly!) and Gina Glocksen.

So...this year.

We're watching the auditions and this "Irish girl" comes on. You never know when they set these people up if they are going to be good or bad, but right away we thought this girl was so sweet. Then she opens her mouth and we were blown away. Then after she got thru, her bit with Todd and her little interview broke my heart. We sat on our couch and cried. I actually had tears running down my face. I said to Melanie - this is going to be the one this year. Little did I know how much she'd amaze me.

So, there were others that we liked a lot, but right from the start, Carly was a star. All through the top 24 shows, she blew me away! (And come on, she sang a Celine song...) I thought Simon was unfair to her right from the start. She was hands down my favorite.

So then, Beatles week. I was super excited for Beatles week because my mom had played her Beatles records for my brother and I to dance to when we were little so I couldn't wait to hear the songs. From the first note of Come Together I was thrilled. I loved that song already and she did such an amazing job. I was so excited when she got the great feedback. She was already my favorite, but I loved her even more after that night. From that night on, Idol became the highlight of my week. I quit Tuesday night Yoga to watch the show live. Sleeping stopped because we had to stay up late to vote for Carly from both of our phones every Tuesday. Every week she impressed us. I can't tell you how many obscenities I screamed at the judges - come ON!

Anyway, I googled her and didn't find any fansites. There was more negative stuff than positive and I was not happy. I told Melanie I wanted to make a site for Carly so we bought a domain (thanks Michael Slezak) and started putting it together. Since my web knowledge consists of some html I learned in high school, I signed up for a web design class so I could build the site properly. [funny side story - 3 days after we launched the site, Bailee's site started popping up in Google, so I emailed her and we've been chatting ever since]. At any rate, the rest is history.

She sang Superstar. Melanie and I were on our couch screaming and hugging each other that night. I called about a million people and just screamed into their voicemails. We voted like crazy that night, as usual and were so upset and PISSED the next night. No one at work wanted to talk to me the next day. Turns out Carly handled the elimination better than I did...

As Shelly said, we met her during the finale project and have been chatting ever since. We have met the most amazing people during this little journey - both online and at the shows. Carly has brought so many people together and it's wonderful. I'm so glad everyone is here and I look forward to supporting Carly for a long long time.

Cheryl

Some of you may know me .... I posted under the same stupid name at AI and CFI.

I'm probably the oldest person around here. I'm just barely 54 years of age, married with three children and two grandchildren. But I'm just a big kid at heart. You will probably hear me talk about my wife a lot. I live in the burbs of Houston. I'm a manufacturing engineer in the energy industry. I love rock, even some of the hard stuff, but not head-banging stuff. I don't care for country, but country-rock is ok. I love to play PC games (not console games). Other than that my only "hobby" is ancient history in general, and ancient Egypt in particular (see my sig). I think Hollywood should cast Carly in a remake of "Cleopatra"! Actually my biggest hobby right now is Carly.

I never really watched AI before season 7, other than the occasional episode now and then if I had nothing better to do, and I had no plans whatsoever to watch season 7. Then one night the wife and daughter were watching it. I was in the kitchen raiding the fridge, and I heard this girl singing Crazy On You. This really caught my attention because I have always loved Heart. So I sat down in front of the TV and watched this girl sing. Needless to say she blew me away and from then on I was crazy for Carly. A couple of weeks later, I had this crazy idea ..... start voting for Carly. So every week I voted like a crazy mad person. I found this website called americanidol.com (imagine that) and started reading, watching vids, looking at pics, etc. I joined up there and started posting (this was in March). Before you know it, I was hooked like a crack addict! The night that Carly was voted off, I was deeply saddened. I continued to watch the show every week in hopes that Carly would be there and get a little camera time.

Then came the first Carly project I was involved in .... the Finale Flowers for Carly, organized by Shelly. There were three teams if I remember correctly. I was part of the "guy team" which was headed up by Felix.

The next project for me was the camera for Carly (again, organized by Shelly). I was lucky to have been involved because it happened so quickly I could have easily missed it.

I asked Shelly if she wanted to take on a Carly Birthday project, and being the awesome person she is, she graciously accepted. Somewhere along the way I found out about the "top secret birthday project" organized by Cheryl. So I happily became involved in that and Shelly's "box full of love birthday project".

Although I was never involved in the "wristband" project, I did order some for myself. So that's my story. Kudos to you if you're still awake.

Whitney - It's not a stupid question! You can upload whatever banner you want under the "My Controls" section. (At the top of the page)

If you need someone to help you make one, I would go to the "Creative Outlet" section and request that. Someone just might help you out... ;)

Yup! If it's a picture make sure you use the code for posting pictures (i.e. [ img ] and [ /img ] without the spaces).

yeah.....so.....i'm Melanie. I am one half of the amazing duo who own this website. :w00twave: I live in Ohio and I hate it. Wish I lived in Cali or New Mexico or somewhere other than here. Somewhere less red. I've been lucky enough to see the Idols Live tour 5 times so far this year and I have just as many shows to go before it's all said and done.

uh...what else....I have 5 tattoos and plans for 3 more. I love tattoos. For me, they are like little memories I carry with me constantly. Each one of my tattoos represents something in my life (a person or an event) that I never ever wnt to forget. Something huge and monumental to me...

I love music a lot. From Sept 07 - Sept 08 I will have seen nearly 20 live concerts including Tori Amos, Regina Spektor, Alanis Morissette, Tegan & Sara, CARLY! (ok, Idols Live), Celine Dion & Northern State...

You can pretty much find me in the movie theatre every single Friday night (unless of course I'm at a concert.)

I bought a brand new 2009 Toyota Camry on July 12 and by August 12 it had 4,700 miles on it. Thanks to Carly!

Some of the coolest words ever spoken to me: "I love you guys"

Close second: "Hey! I talked about you guys on the news today!"

Coolest words ever spoken about me to someone else: "She hasn't had one of mine yet!" :carly:

Yeah yeah ok, this could go on forever.

 Melanie
