Ok i'm starting this thread because I just got in this huge debate/arguement with my friend Josh about Carly and Amy Lee.

My newest pet peeve is how so many people are saying Carly is trying to be Amy or sounds too much like Evanescence and I'm not taking up for her just because I'm a fan, I'm taking up for her because I can clearly hear and see a huge difference between the two. Yes they are the same genre in music, but you can still hear the difference between the two if you take the time to do it! I can also hear some similarities, but most of the same genres have around the same beats, even different genres do it now, just as long as they still make it their own, and this is a signature Carly song, because she doesn't even sound like Amy she sounds like Carly. :wall:


my other pet peeve is when people mispell Katharine and spell it Katherine. :wall:

Yesterday I was watching youtube videos and there is actually a video called "Amy Lee VS Carly Smithson", and another one called "Warning to all Evacescence fans". They are horrible. The keep saying Carly is just an Amy Lee wanna be and stuff. But no worries I did indeed put my opinion in. :wink:

I agree with you guys. I think the music part of the song sounds a little like Evanescence in parts because that's what Ben and the guys used to do, but Carly's singing sounds nothing like Amy to me. Amy has an angelic/soft voice while Carly has much more power and range-I prefer Carly's of course.

I think that Evanescence fans are just jealous since they aren't doing anything right now and they're taking it out on Carly. I'm hoping all the arguing will die down soon and they'll decide to give them a listen and learn to appreciate what a great song it is and how awesome Carly's voice is.

yeah, they're separate bands, putting out separate music. and as carly said, she's not trying to be anything but carly. their goal is just to get music out to the world. amy lee is not being replaced, period.

oh and jennie about the name thing, it bothers me so much when ppl spell carly "carley" its like DUDE CARLY is the more common spelling of the name why would you go out of your way to add an "e" when its wrong anyway?! :wall:

That's just crazy, Carly and Amy sound very very different. They both possess amazing voices, but completely different voices. Of course there are going to be some similarities in Fallen's music, I mean after all they were Evanescence. But the vocals are way different. Who can blame The Fallen for wanting to incorporate a proven, successful formula?

I agree with everyone here that Carly has her own sound and style and does not sound like Amy Lee,she has a very unique sound of her own and style.Like when she sang Bring Me To Life on tour,carly put her own style and spin on the song and it was amazing.
I feel alot of the problem is all the hype that was put on the fact that the band members are former Evanescence,and this has created alot of one sided opinions and closed mindedness for alot of people.
I think if these people would take the time and watch the vid and listen to the song,casting these 2 things aside their opinion might change.At least I hope it would.All you have to do is get rid of the initial opinion and stop and pay attention and actually listen you would see and hear Carly for who she is.You would also see and hear the difference in the sound and style,because there is a difference.
I believe in time this will die down once We Are The Fallen starts touring and releasing more singles, proving themselves as to who they are as artists and take their place in the world of music.

Now for Katharine,you said this would eventually bother me and it does,especially for me being a fairly new fan of hers.Trying to do searches online can drive one crazy-when you have to search doing both spellings.Like e-bay you have to do 2 searches for her in order to find all the things for sale and it's crazy.

So all in all my pet peeve is people who base their opinion on what others are saying instead of taking a real look and listen for themselves and basing their own opinion on what they have heard instead of going with the flow. <_<

One of my pet peeves is stereo types. I hate it when i am with people and someone walks buy, and without even knowing them they automatically assume what they are like. That just angers me!!! :angry: I just want to say "jeez at least give them a chance" ya know?? But yeah i'm done! :haha:

i can understand where they're coming from.. especially the hardcore eva fans who now see this female, gothic-looking lead singer and former members of Eva starting a new band.... but as the band said in their interviews "they're just starting a new a band".... Carly isn't "trying to be Amy"... Carly is Carly.... and she's doing what she feels is necessary in order to lauch her career as sucessfully as possible...so what now every rock band with a female lead singer is copying Eva or Paramore? lol wut?

Is she influenced by Amy? perhaps.... Amy is an amazing talent and artist and Carly does like the rock/pop rock stuff... But Carly has her own unique sound and style and i'm sure that she and the band are going to try to make music that sets them apart from other bands in the long run!






one pet peeve of mine is when people walk their dogs without leashes near soccer fields or running tracks... when i'm running... i don't want to get chased by your damn scary large dogs and then licked and barked at and stuff... it startles me and makes nervous lol.

Today,my peeve is nightmares and huge bugs crawling across my foot when im almost asleep from the nightmare i had..Why cause I lost alot of sleep and Im exhausted. :(
