Alright - so make of this what you will. I know earlier I said I didn't think there'd be any way Carly would be performing on one of the big shows.
I'm not sure this changes my mind but I found this blog by a guy named Ian Lately (link here) which states the following for a rundown of events for today and the next few days of Idol activity:

| Ok we only have til Wednesday before either Kris or Adam will be crowned Idol but there is a ton of stuff going on before here is a just little bit of the rundown for the next 3 days , and a list of perfromers at the finale:) Monday 5/18 Tuesday 's show rehearsal , with Carly Smithson and Carrie Underwood, and stage setup at Nokia theatre, Idol Party tonight with previous Idol contestants , Syesha Mercado , Brooke White , Carly Smithson , David Cook and David Archuleta as well as this seasons contestants . Tuesday 5/19 Staging and dress rehearsal for Adam and Kris as well as Carrie , performance show tapes live at about 5pm , after ,rehearsal for Finale with Top 13 contestants for group performances and individual choreography rehearsal for sure , all contestants will know their celeb duet partner . Tuesdays performance show will work like this :1st they will sing a song that the have previously done this season of their choosing . 2nd producer Simon Fuller chooses each Adam and Kris a song , and 3rd it's the final coronation song of which there is only one this year so let's cross our fingers Kris and Adam can make it original , I think they can :) Wednesday 5/20 The big one , red carpet set up outside , press line set up , sound checks throughout the day , rehearsal and final choreography run throughs , I think the everyone in the press will be there around 2 , and listen to Ryan on KIIS fm tomorrow for the coverage under the stage he's by the dressing rooms lol , show is planned for 6pm PT 8pm ET live , after winner is announced guests winner , runner - up and other Idols and judges go through through press line , then its time for some parties :) Idol Finale Guests: David Cook Carly Smithson Jason Mraz Keith Urban w/ Kris Cindi Lauper w/ Allison Lionel Richie Black Eyed Peas Queen Latifah You should be excited by now right ? So Carly rehearsing tonight? For what exactly, and then specifically listed as an Idol finale guest?
Very curious....it sounds promising, though I don't know the guy reporting this and how accurate the reports are - I'm afraid to get my hopes up...

Also for what it's worth, none of the other spoiler sites mention her at all.

So again I don't what this all means - makes me wonder if maybe she'll perform pre-show or something like that.
Well it's all just rumors at this point - keep your eyes peeled for Carly - tomorrow in particular.

So this explains why Carly will be back in San Diego on Wed. - so she will not be at the finale itself (or any related events on that day) - she will be hosting a Lambert party in San Diego - which makes sense as this is home for both of them.
However I wonder if they will go to her "live via satellite" during the show. They have done this in the past with Idols hosting finalists home town parties and reporting on them during the broadcast.
Still curious to know what she'll be doing today!

Just spotted Carly in the audience around 5 mins. into the show-right as Adam and Kris were walking down the stairs. She looks great-Go Carly!!!

That explains his earlier post then - that Carly wasn't on his list of people for dress rehearsal. I reckon a live link-up is likely then.
And thanks for the screencap, Carly looks great!
Is there any chance of someone recording the show tonight, and uploading any Carly that we get, because i doubt bits like that will be on Youtube.

From reading previous Idol Tonight shoe descriptions, it sounds like she hasn't been on the show yet during finale week (though I didn't see them so take that with a grain of salt.)

I've watched all the Idol Tonight episodes this week and no Carly on any of them so far. I'm planning to record it tonight but the only way I can post it online is to record with my camera off the tv and upload that. It's not very good picture quality but better than nothing. Yay-more Carly!!

Thought this was pretty cool-this reporter from the San Jose Mercury News talked to Carly in the lobby of the Nokia Theatre before Tuesday night's show and here's what he said about her :
