Title: Could you help try and get Alexis on the tour?
Omarocks - April 30, 2009 11:46 PM (GMT)
hi guys...
As some of you may know... i'm pretty ticked off about Alexis not making the tour. No she isn't a Carly or Carrie.. but she was one of the better singers this year and i thought that she was treated extermely unfairly; the judges' mistakes to push "dirty" on her cost her some popularity, and most likely sabotaged her chances, then when they had a chance to save her and make up for their mistakes they chose not to... thus denying her the tour. They should have saved her simply based on principle... but this is not even considering the fact that the save was made for a case just like hers: a talented singer with tons of potential who had been great each week except for ONE mediocre performance and then shockingly gets the least number of votes... in addition she had ALOT to lose (ie the tour) and she would have killed the following week because MoTown music is her style of singing. Then to make matters worse the judges LIED about her AI run in an attempt to justify not saving her; they said she had picked BAD songs for basically her entire AI run. Ofcourse this is total BS since the ONLY arguably "bad" song choice was Jolene. It was really classless and it reaped away alot of Alexis' deserved credit.
Now i'm a Carly fan first and foremost and i was totally devastated when Carly went out last year... but i feel worse for Alexis because she didn't even make the tour and because of the AI format this year she barely got to show her goods. Because of all of this, she didn't really get to develop a large fanbase and her career is going to be much more of an uphill battle than it should be :(... it will be hard for her to get a record deal... this is totally unjust because she had the talent to make it far in teh comp :/.
Anyways a while back i sent a letter to fox outlining why they should add alexis... but they didn't respond ofcourse lol But that last wed Ryan mentioned that the producers read the blogs... so i decided to place my argument in a blog and update it every now and then for the producers to see it.... but then people started to comment on it and i thought that maybe i could make it into some sort of petition and then send it off to fox again...
So here is a favour i ask of you guys:
follow this link:
http://myidol.americanidol.com/iluvpower/blog (make an account if you don’t have one; it takes like a sec) and place a comment on the blog titled "why AI should add Alexis to the tour; Why she had been been treated more unfairly than anyone else in idol history" This is essentially a petition backed up with a thorough argument.
just comment that that you agree that Alexis should be on tour (or anything else you would like to add about Alexis)... YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO READ IT IF YOU DONT WANT TO (i know its really long lol)
As a template (in case you have no clue what to say), you could reflect that you agree that the judges failed Alexis by pushing their horribly worded advice to "dirty it up", that these mistakes did in attach a stigma to her character in the minds of some viewers and most likely sabotaged her chances, that she has been treated incredibly unfairly and she SHOULD BE ADDED TO THE TOUR!! (and anything else you want to add) .
If you’re not to motivated to get Alexis on tour… then take the time to read the blog posts because they present a strong case for why she should be there… it may change your mind.
Once enough people have shown their support, the blog (along with all the comments) will be sent to fox to show how many people feel that Alexis should be added to the tour! In addition the blog will be updated to keep it at the top so that the producers may read it (Ryan mentioned that they read the blogs and forums)
Alexis deserves a spot on tour so that she can get a chance to show what she's got (america barely got to see her) and thus she'll get more exposure, a bit of a salary and it would make it easier for her to get a record deal! It is totally unjust that she didn't even make the tour!!
I know it's a long shot... but heck its worth a shot... and it will only take like 2 seconds!!!Much appreciated to any of you who choose to do it!!

omar you type way too much! i didnt even read any of it. :P well i skimmed. but i catch ur drift, alexis deserves to go on tour. so i commented :D i hope it works! if not, then good for you for at least trying!

aww thanks for commenting Amy !!!! you rock!!
but man... 23 views and only one person actually decided to give like 2 minutes of their time to help out :(...
come on guys.. it really doesn't cost you anything.. and it has the potential to make a huge difference for Alexis! WE all know how hard it was for Carly in the music biz... with having her first album fail to gain acceptance, then the season 5 heartbreaker... the music biz is TOUGH even if you have tons of talent :/... but she finally got her break in season 7... although she didn;t make it as far as she could have, she got a chance to really show america her talent and to really develop a strong fanbase to launch her career off of. Thus she was able to get a record deal and now Carly is set to be a sucess!
But Alexis... has gone through that too... she tried out for idol THREE times and onlymade it this year (go figure)... and she really had a shot to make it pretty far in the competition... but to go from a contender to not even making the tour is totally devastating! :(... especially if your chances were sabotaged by the judges' mistakes. By having such a short AI run this year (combined with the new format) she barely got to display her talents... and now her career is still going to be quite an uphilll battle....But being on tour would help substantiallly...she really should be on the tour... and every comment is valuable.
Even if you don't care... why not take out like a couple mintutes of your time and help out a sweet, humble and up and coming singer who got robbed and treated very unfairly on AI this year?? She's got a family to raise and she doesn';t have much money.. the tour would really help, not only with a salary... but also with giving her some exposure. The exposure would really help her attempts to get a record deal and make her career much less of an uphill battle!
Heck if you really don't care or don't like Alexis... then read my two blog posts "Why the judges' mistakes most likely caused Alexis' early and unjust elimination" and "why Alexis Grace has been treated more unfairly than any contestant in idol history; why she should be added to the tour"... i present arguments to prove that, if AI has any integrity what so ever... they should add her to the tour.
and no... i'm not obsessed" or "in love" with Alexis... though i am a fan of her voice, i just felt REALLY bad for how things went for her on AI ... i like to see decent people succeed and achieve their dreams... and Alexis' one shot at major sucess was really squandered this year :/.

sigh
"
Alexis Grace should be ADDED TO TOUR!! She got totally robbed! She went from being a contender to not even making the tour!!! She was the most unfairly treated contestant in AI history. The judges failed as mentors and their "advice" attached a stigma to her character, cost her some popularity and most likely got her eliminated in the first place. Then in an attempt to justify not saving her, they lied about her AI run on the top ten show, making it seem like she picked bad songs for virtually her entire AI run. This is blatantly false; she was good to stellar each week and had only ONE arguably “bad” song choice. This lie reaped away much of her deserved credit; it was a very classless thing to do. If AI has any class or integrity what-so-ever, they'd add her to the tour. In addition it would make the tour better and it would balance the skewed guy:girl ratio! If you want to help get Alexis on your, then please follow this link:
http://myidol.americanidol.com/iluvpower/blog (make an account if you don’t have one; it takes like a sec) and comment on the blog post entitled "
why AI should add Alexis to the tour; Why she had been been treated more unfairly than anyone else in idol history". This is essentially a petition backed up with a throrough argument that proves why Alexis (and not necessarily others) should be added to the tour.
You don’t even have to read it…
just add a comment that you think Alexis should be on tour.It will take like 1 minute and it could go along way to helping Alexis out! Keep in mind that because she missed the tour and she barely got a chance to show her skills to american, her career is going to be much more of an uphill battle; it will be harder for her to get a record deal....but WE can try to change that! she's a sweet, humble, soft-spoken AND talented girl! she deserves better! Of course if you’re not motivated to help out, or you don’t think she should be added to the tour, then at least take the time to read the blog post because it presents an argument to prove why Alexis (and not necessarily anyone else) should be added to the tour. It may change your mind.
If you want to add more but can’t think of anything to say then here are some suggestions; your comment could reflect that you agree that the judges failed Alexis by pushing their horribly worded advice to "dirty it up", that these mistakes did in attach a stigma to her character in the minds of some viewers and most likely sabotaged her chances, that she has been treated incredibly unfairly and she SHOULD BE ADDED TO THE TOUR!! (and anything else you want to add) . We want to convince AI they should add her to the Tour!!
The producers read the blog posts, so there is good chance it will catch their attention. In addition, once enough people have shown their support, the blog (along with all the comments) will be sent to fox to show how many people feel that Alexis should be added to the tour!
Alexis deserves a spot on tour so that she can get a chance to show what she's got (america barely got to see her) and thus she'll get more exposure, a bit of a salary and it would make it easier for her to get a record deal! It is totally unjust that she didn't even make the tour!! WE can speak up on her behalf... and who knows we might be able to get her on the tour if enough people offer their support! So Please consider!!”

Hi Omar
I think its cool how much you back Alexis,
I think the first day or so i liked her but then for me it got to comercial, even before they pushed her to dirty, I think the judges got some of it wrong yes but i also think Alexis took it way to far i mean, she went all out.
No doubt she will get signed becasue if she goes back to her own style she is pretty good. But i dont think they made the wrong choice, in not saveing her.
I think the people on the Tour are as they should be.

Omar I think it's great how much you like and are dedicated to Alexis, but honestly there's nothing that can be done to get her on tour, even if you have a lot of people help. Hopefully she will continue her dreams and become an artist on her own. There are plenty of people who didn't make the top 10 on Idol that are still pursuing their careers. She still has a chance to get on her feet and live her dreams.
I wouldn't focus so much on Idol anymore for her, but as a fan of hers and encouraging her to continue her dreams and help get her to the level she needs to be at to get a record deal or to do her own indie album, so you can see her on tour.
That's just my thought.

Hi Amber,
Thanks for replying. Your response is exactly why I feel so bad for Alexis… The judges’ mistakes to push dirty on her left a stigma on her character that lingers on even today! Just look at your comment! You called her “commercial” (by the way the pushed dirty on her right from the very beginning) and you said she “took it too far”. This is why I feel so bad for her and this is why I feel the need to advocate for her and dispel these misconceptions that really painted a negative picture of her character!
Firstly read this please:
“Now whose mistake was it? Was it the judges’ mistake for giving the harmful advice or was it Alexis’ for taking it? Firstly we cannot blame a contestant for taking the judges’ advice, especially if they repeatedly emphasize it and push it on her. They are professionals who have worked with the best in the biz and they should be leading these singers down paths that will HELP and not HURT them. They are mentors, and you would expect the contestants to take their advice. In fact it would be even arrogant for the contestants to NOT take the judges’ repeated advice. One cannot blame the mentored for following what SHOULD be good advice for their mentors especially if the mentors keep emphasizing and repeating that advice; that’s like blaming a child for doing something bad that their parents taught them to!
Secondly Alexis wasn’t even following the advice that some viewers THOUGHT she was. TO ALEXIS, the "dirty" advice was figurative (see her interviews). She is a smart girl and she was trying to extract some valuable meaning from the judges' horribly worded advice; she's a bit of a timid, soft spoken girl, so she saw the advice as "be more confident, charismatic, sassy, come out of your shell, be edgier" and so on. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong trying to do the aforementioned. In fact several AI contestants go through that type of change throughout the competition. AI is about personal growth and becoming a better performer, so trying to be edgier, more charismatic, sassier etc is a good thing. Unfortunately even though Alexis was able to interpret the “advice” in a meaningful manner, any attempts she would make to become “sassier, edgier and more confident” may be interpreted as an attempt to follow the judges’ literal advice to “dirty it up”. A rational person would realize that voters would probably not like the "dirty, young and/or single mom"; they would not like to see a timid, sweet, young mommy change into a "dirty girl" to please the judges. So thus it would be best to refrain from using those terms when giving their advice. It would have been much more rational to simply outline the advice in literal terms and tell her to be more confident, sassy, edgier, charismatic etc. This way they get the message across and don't leave room for interpretations that could sabotage Alexis' chances. Ultimately it was the judges’ terrible mistakes to use, repeat and emphasize the terms “be dirtier/dirty it up” when advising Alexis, that attached a stigma to Alexis’ character in the minds of some viewers and thus cost her some popularity and most likely the cost her the tour itself.” Had it not been for the poorly worded "advice", the viewers would have simply saw Alexis' changes on idol for what they were; she was trying to be more confident, edgy, sassy and charismatic in attempt to improve her stage presence and star potential, something that is perfectly normal and acceptable on a show like AI where contestants try to improve themselves as artists/performers
Now I want you to picture this scenario:
Go back to last year and think about Carly’s AI run. Imagine that Carly (who was a contender and had great talent) comes in and the judges all start pushing her to “Be dirtier and dirty it up”. She tries to extract some value from that poorly-worded “advice” and tries improve her stage presence by being more confident, edgy and a bit sassier (something that several contestants do on AI as a means of personal growth.. something that is perfectly acceptable and expected). But they keep repeating “Dirty/naughty etc” on national Tv the point where virtually any attempt to be more charismatic, sassier, confident etc leads some people into thinking that she was being “Commercial”, “dirty/slutty”, “selling out”, “shallow” and she starts to lose some popularity to the point where she got eliminated WITHOUT EVEN MAKING THE TOUR.... then this stigma of being "commerical, shallow etc" lingers on post-idol aswell... This would all be despite her talent and consistently great performances… then they had a chance to save her and make up for their mistakes, but they choose not to. And then the following week in order to justify not saving her, they LIE and say that “Carly picked bad songs for the past few weeks (ie the entirety of the voting rounds)… thus totally reaping away all of Carly’s credit. Thus instead of leaving with a legacy of great performances she leaves with stigma of being “shallow, dirty, commercial, sell-out etc” who picked “bad” songs for the whole AI run. Do you think that you would be angry? Do you that would be fair to Carly and her fans? Heck put YOURSELF in that situation… imagine being an AI contestant with lots talent and potentiall and having all that happen to you… how would YOU feel? AI is about providing contestants with opportunities to show their goods… that’s how they make their money. But they took alexis’ one shot at the American idol stage and totally wasted it through a series of mistakes. Not fair now is it?
Keep in mind my reasons for wanting her on tour is NOT because she wasn’t saved it’s because their mistakes attached a stigma to her character (that lingers on even after her AI run, they cost her some popularity and ultimately cost her the TOUR…then they totally reaped away all of her EARNED credit by lying about her performances and making them all seem (falsely) “bad”. They made it a top 13 this year … why not make it a top 11 tour? It’s the right thing to do given how badly they treated Alexis and how they ruined her chances AND it would make the tour better.

Jennie thanks for replying. Ok I know that there is a slim chance that it will work… but there IS a chance… there is ZERO chance if I don’t try. Even if it doesn’t work at the very least it will allow me to show the AI producers how they lost credibility this year and how they screwed over Alexis and treated her extremely unfairly. Heck I already sent them a long letter with my proposal of why she should be on tour about 3-4 weeks ago and I made a thread where I debated the premise that Alexis should be added to the tour… but the blog is great way to get their attention since they do check it out… and having people comment and agree that she should be there would certainly help. Even if you think that there is no chance whatsoever… then what’s the big deal with taking like one second to add a sentence to my blog/petition? It doesn’t cost you anything and at least it would make me happy… unless you adamantly disagree that she should be on tour (in which case I would like you to explain why you feel that way)… I really don’t see why everyone here is refusing to help out.
The thing about the record deal is that with her shortned AI run, the attached stigma to her character and MISSING THE TOUR she did not get enough exposure and did not get a chance to really develop a large enough fanbase to launch her career off of..so it is going to be a lot harder for her to get a record deal; her career will be an uphill battle.
Honestly, while I do like Alexis, most of my efforts have stemmed from how badly I felt for her… I put myself (or Carly) in her shoes and I realized that she was treated extremely unjustly. Someone had to speak up… and I decided to do that. I hate seeing decent people get wronged and that’s why it really had an effect on me; I felt sympathy for her plight. Being on tour would be HUGE for her; it would give back to Alexis SOME of what she deserved; it would give back some of the earned credit they reaped away from her with their blatantly false comments on the top 10 show; it will give back the spot on the tour that was robbed from her; it will give back some of the popularity she lost due to the judges’ "advice" that attached a stigma to her character in the minds of voters (that lingers on even to this day)… it would give her a better chance at getting a record deal since she’ll get to show her talents over America….in addition she could use the salary to help with her family.
Alexis got totally robbed.. if sure if what happened to Alexis, happened to Carly last season we would have all been outraged and we would have tried to get her on the tour.
heck its not even about helping "someelses fave"... it's about helping to a decent human being who got treated unfairly and wronged by AI...
Omarocks - May 3, 2009 04:18 AM (GMT)
if you're not so sure you want to help Alexis out.... then at least read my reasoning for why i want her on the tour... here is a summary:
"The judges made mistakes this year that cost Alexis Grace dearly. They singled out only Alexis with poor advice to “dirty it up” that cost her some popularity, added a stigma to her character in some peoples' minds, and most likely caused her shocking, premature elimination. They should have saved her, not only because their mistakes cost her some popularity and sabotaged her chances, but also because the save was meant to be used for someone in her situation; she was a contender, she was good to great for most weeks and had one "bad" song-choice, she would have killed the following week (MoTown is her niche musical style) and she had the TOUR at stake. Finally, the most appalling act was totally misrepresenting her AI run with blatant lies in an attempt to justify not saving her. To say (lie) that she picked bad songs throughout virtually her entire AI run totally reaps away all of the credit she had earned. It's the biggest insult I have ever seen towards a contestant in AI history and it really lacked class and integrity. Instead of leaving with a legacy of good performances, she now leaves with the stigma of being the "dirty girl who didn't stay true to herself... the “dirty young, mom" who picked "bad" songs for basically her entire AI run. That is totally unacceptable. The worst part about this is that with such a short AI run and missing the tour she never got a chance to really show everything she's got, she wasn't given enough exposure to develop as large a fanbase as she deserved, and ultimately her career is going to be much more of an uphill battle than it should have been. No other AI finalist, this season or in the history of Idol, had to suffer such dire consequences from the judges’ actions; no other contestant had a stigma attached to their character that (lingers on eve post-idol), cost her some fans and most likely the tour, no other contestant had their earned credit reaped away from them through blatant lies, no other contestant was treated as unfairly as Alexis Grace (at least not to my knowledge) Now the judges are humans and it's understandable that they can make mistakes; none of us are perfect. But part of being classy and having integrity is to realize our mistakes, to apologize for any harm that they may have caused and to do whatever we can to make up for them. So if AI has any credibility, integrity, professionalism and class they would admit to their mistakes and try to make up for them. There is no better way to do that, then by giving Alexis a spot on the tour. This will at least give back to Alexis SOME of what she deserved; it would give back some of the earned credit they reaped away from her with their blatantly false comments on the top 10 show; it will give back the spot on the tour they was robbed from her; it will give back some of the popularity she lost due to the judges’ "advice" that attached a stigma to her character in the minds of some voters (that lingers on even to this day).So please AI, do the right thing and add Alexis Grace to the tour. She has unique vocal style that oozes of soul and blues and she barely got to show it. Aside from it being the RIGHT thing to do, it would also make the tour a lot better and it would help to balance the skewed guy to girl ratio this year. Alexis is great talent and surely there are many fans that would love to see her on tour. You bent the rules this year with the top 13, so why not "bend" the rules and make it a top 11 tour this year for Alexis Grace when there are several significant reasons for doing so?

in case you're wondering how i arrived at my conclusions that the judges' mistakes attached a stigma to Alexis' character, cost her some fans and most likely the tour itself... then here is another excerpt from my blog post:
"How the judges mistakes’ attached a Stigma to Alexis’ character, cost her some popularity and ultimately the Tour
The AI judges singled her out and targeted her heavily with "advice" to "be dirtier/dirty it up". They repeated and overemphasized this poorly-worded advice on national TV. Alexis interpreted it figuratively (to her it meant to be more confident, edgy, sassier etc), but when combined with her changes on Idol that perhaps made her look a bit sassier, people started to perceive that she was becoming the "dirty girl". Some started to see her as shallow, lacking identity, not staying true to herself and so on (all of which are qualities that contradict what an American Idol would be) Worst of all, since she's a young/single mom, this dirty emphasis started to paint the picture of a "dirty young mom". This latter persona perpetuates the stigma that young and/or single mothers are promiscuous and a "dirty/slutty young mom" does not typically fit with what we view an "American idol" as. In short, this "advice" painted and negative and inaccurate picture of Alexis' character and cost her some popularity. Only SHE had to deal with this; the judges did not single out any other contestant with advice that attached a stigma to their character. (check out the posts from 3-4 weeks ago in the forum, also check out this blog post: some proof showing that the judges mistakes cost Alexis some popularity and attached a stigma to her character ) So before even getting into how much of a hit this took on her popularity, we can already say that Alexis (and only Alexis) was targeted by the judges in a manner that cost her some popularity by painting a negative picture of her character. THIS is unfair.
To make matters worse, on Grand Ole' Oprey week this "dirty" misconception was very saliently emphasized, perhaps more so than any other time during her Idol run. After her performance of Jolene the judges said things like "be more dirty, you lost your edge it was sound alike" (even though this was an ignorant misrepresentation since her rendition of Jolene sounded nothing like the original). Then Ryan asks “what would you have done differently”. The rational thing to do in that spot would be to say you'd do what the judges suggest: to be dirtier. So she answered, "I'll bring back the dirty... if you bring me back, I'll dirty it up". She had never said things like that before, but was prompted to in that situation. To her it was all figurative, and she meant "I’ll be more sassy, edgy and confident ect". But due to prevailing misconceptions and all the previous emphasis the judges had placed on "dirty" it only acted to more saliently reinforce the misconception that Alexis was becoming a "dirty girl". Also, because it was so salient it may have even cost Alexis some fans who were on the fence about her actually being a "dirty girl or not"'; it would have confirmed any lingering suspicions in this regard. And alas, she gets eliminated the following night..
It was this “dirty” emphasis (which had been painting a negative picture of her character for weeks and ESPECIALLY after her performance of Jolene with her unfortunate post-Jolene comments) that most likely caused her early and shocking elimination at the top 11:
Not considering this dirty emphasis, there are no factors that would have been logically sufficient to lead to her elimination; general personality, looks and talent/performances did not favor at least 2 contestants who outlasted her. In fact, she had the edge in terms of talent and performances over at least 2 people who outlasted her (she was stellar top 36, great top 13, mediocre top 11, while at least two others had been mediocre to good throughout). The judges considered her a contender and she was one of the contestants they would actually consider saving. Going by the judges’ comments, the same cannot be said for people like Michael, Megan, Anoop and Scott.
The dirty emphasis was working against her and ONLY her, not only throughout the competition but also ESPECIALLY after her performance of Jolene when it was very saliently emphasized with her prompted post-Jolene comments. So since all other factors were, together, not logically sufficient to lead to her elimination BUT there was ONLY one identifiable factor (the dirty emphasis) that DID work against her and ONLY her (and to the most extent after her performance of Jolene) then because she WAS eliminated, the dirty emphasis was the most likely cause Alexis' elimination.
Now even if you want to be cynical and say that Alexis was "no better than Mike or Scott or Megan" this theory is STILL valid and sound because then we'd be placing them all on the same level and the only contestant that had something that was definitely working against them was Alexis (the dirty emphasis). Thus that dirty emphasis is the only plausible reason for elimination that night.

Omar now I'm giving you a warning, you are pushing it to far with this. I know you are upset, but unforunitely it was the fans choice to vote for her. Don't put Carly in that position, because we knew the only way she would make it as far as she did was for us to vote for her. It's not AI's fault, it's up to the fans to vote and make sure they vote hard to keep their favorite on the show. Whether anyone likes it or not, that is how it is. I think it's great what you are trying to do for her, but as you can see this might not be the place to bring it up, because most of us who have watched the show, knows how it works. Go to IDF and post it in Alexis's forum over there, get other Alexis fans to help you out if you really do believe that it will get her on tour. You can't keep forcing this out there to everyone here, so please stop, because you are starting to go over board with this.
P.S. also the "pushing dirty" on her, it was her choice to go with what the judges wanted. She made the choice to follow their lead instead of staying true to herself. If you want to use Carly as an example for anything, use it for something that is legit, that proves that you don't have to follow the judges every word to become anything.
Carly stayed who she was, regardless how much Simon tried to change how she sang and her appearance, she did not once give in to him. She knew that Simon wasn't voting for her, she knew that she had fans out there who love her for who she is, so she took that chance and stayed true to herself with Simon's unrealistic comments.
And still if a performer decides to follow the lead of the judge, doesn't mean the fans shouldnt have liked her any less. If you are a dedicated fan you will like that person no matter what. So once again it was the fans choice. The judges and AI got her through so the fans could vote for her, gave her the opportunity to be out there for fans, so it's not AI's fault.

For the record, Jennie did not lock the thread, I did. I appreciate a healthy debate, but this is going too far. People are getting upset and we've seen where this leads in the past. I think it best to end this discussion. Omar has asked for support in his project to get Alexis on tour. Anyone that is interested can follow his links to do so. If you are not interested, you are under no obligation to participate.
